There was one sentence that had touched my heart deeply: "Ah, but quite a lot can change in a week, wouldn't you agree?".
Given the plot which you have made, you had given a lot of things to think about. Different realizations that one must know and believe. I learned a lot from this and that's what I like most about a story.
Was your prompt about Christmas celebrated at a hospital, or something like that? Because if it was, I think I was the one who suggested that prompt for the contest. (lol, never mind, carry on)
