Awwww. Perfect happy ending and I'm only sad that it's over. I love, Love, LOVE the conversation switch where Frank goes from yelling about Gerard being late today in one sentence to things that happened ages ago in the next. That was really brilliant. I also liked the insight into Frank's character and how it changed in the end.
Thank you for writing this. I did, thoroughly and genuinely enjoy it. Let me know when you start something new. If you need a reader, I'll be there. <3
Oh, well, this chapter is just heart-breaking. Really! *sobs* I feel so bad for both of them in it. Yes, that includes Frank even if I'm still mad at him. *grin* I can be mad at him and still feel sorry for him at the same time. I can't wait to see what happens next.
@ adora68 yes I agree with you on this point, such behavior and the need to repeat that he isn't responsible can be applied not only for rape victims but for people who have low self esteem, paranoic and such. In this case Gerard has grown a bit stronger due to the amount of time that has passed but yes, he still doesn't feel confident enough to start a new relationship.
I didn't take it as criticism, and even if it were I'd take it gladly. Now i wish i could rewrite the last few chapters and stress upon those points a bit more so thank you for expressing your view and making me think over other aspects of the assault, I'm glad you like the story :)
I get Gerard's sense of guilt totally. It's not uncommon in rape victims, especially in those who are victims of some form of date-rape or of being roofied. It doesn't matter if he enjoyed it or not. If he didn't consent (and if he was drugged then he didn't consent), then it's rape.
As for it being a year, since Gerard has never accepted the fact that he's a rape victim and is, instead, still harboring guilt over the incident, that means he needs even more to know that it's 100% not his fault. Since he won't go to therapy (also not uncommon), he needs a partner who will give him that assurance. If Frank can't or won't give him that, then he shouldn't get back with Frank.
Sorry, I just know too many victims of sexual assault to feel any other way about this. It's way too important that he be told (over and over) that he didn't "cheat" and he's not at fault. He needs to be told until he believes it. Until then, he'll never have a successful or healthy relationship with anyone.
I love the story, by the way, so please don't take this as criticism from a plot point of view. I'm just really passionate about sexual assault and abuse victims and that they not be victimized further especially by those who profess to care for them. It happens more often than we'd like to believe, often by people with the best intentions.
@ adora68 interesting point of view. But consider this, Gerard doesn't know if he was raped or not, because he remembers enjoying it, maybe i didn't stress on that point enough, but that's the main reason why he feels guilty. If he'd known for sure that it was rape, he wouldn't have stepped down so easily, or at least not without explaining everything to Frank. Yes, i agree that Frank is stubborn and reserved about personal things, but that's just the way he is and was from the very start. And yes, it was a bit tacky for Frank to say that, but I think they just wanted to put everything behind them, it has been way over a year since it happened anyway.
Can I just say? I think Frank is a total dick. He was completely inconsiderate while he was on tour. Then Gerard gets raped and he's all, "Oh, let's just accept that we're both at fault." What?! Maybe Gerard shouldn't have been in a bar, but if some dude hadn't drugged and raped him, he would've passed out and that would've been the end of it. He was raped!! And Frank has no sympathy for that? Ugh! Right now, Frank doesn't deserve to have Gerard back.
I will actually find you and throw snakes at you if you make Frank or Gerard get other boyfriends. This is not a joke. (it totally is) but seriously. I hope you're scared of snakes, because of you're not, then dang. I like snakes.
