This was the most heartcrushing beginning to a story I have ever read, and this is the most I've cried at a fanfic in a long time.

When Ryan called him bear, ohshit. My heart was just. Ugh. It was perf. It made me feel fuzzy. BUT THIS IS WHAT REALLY GOT TO ME:

...With every breath, he counted, up to ten and back to one, but when he opened his eyes, he was still alone, with a glossy Ryan laughing at him.

The last goddamn paragraph. tears for-fucking-ever because Ryan's not really there.

You are a really out to kill people, aren't you? Especially me. T______T;

Anyways, this was so fantastically heartbreaking, I can't even wait to read more of your stuff. c:

Onto the comment.

The line, "He almost laughed, thinking that there was probably a metaphor in the little waves rising and crashing until they simply disappeared, but without his greater interpreter, it was lost on him," just made me fold my legs in my seat and get ready for the insane ride that I knew was to come because that kinda (totally) broke my heart and then Brendon and water and oh, no, Ryan called him, "Bear," my heart flew so high, because it's actually super-adorable and sweet that Ryan saved him, because I'm just fanning myself, going, "Aww," and then RYAN WAIT WHAT DID YOU DO, when I saw this little string of words: "Sorry for what, B?" Ryan asked, burying his nose in Brendon's hair.
"Not seeing it sooner," and add that with, "No one, no one blames you."
I do," that's just upsetting and I'm starting to get a sense of what's going on, like, oh my goodness, what, and as Brendon allowed himself to count to ten, I knew something was doing to happen that I couldn't bare to happen, and as soon as he reached ten, I was so ready to cry, because no, no, no, this can't be happening, and the last line, THE LAST LINE, oh, no, THE LAST PARAGRAPH, I'm seriously in tears.
