I like that he made her laugh and we get to learn a bit more about her past, it makes her a bit more believable character. The conversation's are believable and give the story a nice flow.

I'm interested in what's going to happen with this.
it's a very well written opening, the descriptions are very lifelike and set the scene in a way that creates a lot of sympathy for the main character.
