You know, I'm brazilian, and here we consume a lot of that sort of thing. Mexican soap operas are essentially full of dramas, and much melodrama, and whiny protagonists. Not that Beka is so. Just giving an idea of what it is.
I never watched a north american soap opera, but I've heard rumors that there did a remake of one of our novels, I do not know.

Not Mexican ones... But I don't know how different they are from American ones... Or shows like Gossip Girl. Lol. And my own life, which has had a few dramatic relationships involving cheating and lying (I swear, I attract assholes. It's great inspiration for drama filled stories though)!
