I'm actually very glad someone picked up on this !! I wanted to use the accusative case because it felt more fitting for the story, the feel of it aimed at the two characters and their own lives amongst the many, many others happening at the same time. Accusative case makes it less general and more personal to the story. Their story finishes, but many others continue.
This will become more apparent once I put up the sequel, because of course I wrote a sequel. (I couldn't leave them no matter how hard I tried !!)
I realise it's bad grammar and whatnot but it just felt better to me. :)

This is r3ally cut3! I ship Kar3zi, 8ut I r3ally, r3ally lik3 this! Nic3 jo8! On3 qu3stion, though: Why ar3 'primum et ultimum' 8oth in th3 accusativ3 cas3? Wouldn't th3y b3 in th3 nominativ3? (Sorry, I'm a 8it o7 a latin g33k.)
