I loved the whole play on the Jesus being born situation, and the fact that Tom didn't notice until after the fact. I can just imagine Tom being there for a birth and just completely freaking out and not knowing what to do The whole story just felt so British to me, especially the ambulance drivers bringing tea to the birthing, my god.
I absolutely loved your descriptions through the whole thing. Right from the beginning everything was described so wonderfully, and you kept that going throughout the story, even when the "action" started happening. You have such a lovely way with words and it paints a great picture in my head while I'm reading, which I really appreciate.
I had no clue Wimbledon was actually a district, I just thought it was the tennis. My bad. Moving swiftly onwards, I really like the image you paint from the get-go. I just have the image of the perfect winter outside and it's quite sweet. I'm assuming that the idea of falling snow caused the entire British transport system to fall to its knees as well, so I got a bit of a giggle out of that.
Tom Hiddleston as a father, that just screams train-wreck to me. I can imagine him holding it upside down by the leg and looking at it as if it were a foreign object. I love how excited he seems to be though, and how prepared they both are! When her waters break though, I think that's just every man on the planet. "Oh, okay, baby's arriving. OH SHIT THE BABY'S ARRIVING." So amusing.
Aw man, it's the Christmas miracle with Tom playing Joseph. I am so digging this, it's awesome. It's also taken me this long to realise that the midwife is named Gabriel and that it all links onto the story of Jesus's birth. I'm a bit dumb.
A TESCO VALUE TOWEL OKAY I'M SOBBING NOW. Oh dear Lord, this is one of the best stories I've read in a while. I don't think this story could get any more British if you had tried, I'm getting a right giggle out of all of the hidden Britishisms. Only a British ambulance driver would bring tea to a baby birthing, that's epic.
Honestly, I adored this. It was funny, it was sweet and it was wonderfully written. Amazing job!
Haha oh my gosh..."a load of cows which keep looking at me funny" that cracked me up!!! And oh my gosh Matt flirting with Gabe. And they named the baby Elwin!!! So sweet :) good luck for the contest too!!
@ acid_rain88 Yay, you got the reference with the baby name! :D Actually, the baby's whole name represents three of my favourite things haha. Thank you, glad you enjoyed it :D
@ Brian Haner Jr I'll keep that close to my chest, my parentals hate the English XD
oh gosh seriously that was just so beautiful and christmasy AND I LOVE HOW TOM HIDDLESTON IS GETTIN' SOME LOVIN' love that man matt being a shepherd and singing to the sheep- hilarious! gabriel the gay midwife that's extremely horny.. giving birth in a barn in a snowstorm.. just epic loved everything about it
oh and lets not forget how you totally included brian in this story too by taking his middle name as the babys name- clever
Oh my god. I absolutely adored this!! Now, I'm not the one for reading Tom in stories due to people not portraying him correctly and horribly, but holy fucking shit you wrote him so so well!!
I also loved how you morphed the original story into your own. It all worked together so damn good that I was laying down here in utter shock and just oh my god. Those one liners, man; perfection. I could picture everything clearly and when you introduced Matt as the Shepard with his giant looking build and mane of hair I just wanted to shower you with tea and just, I honestly can't.
I loved it. Just the right amount of sass and humor to go with the religious tale and the season. I like that, while you kept the original tale there, you morphed it into something funny and unique, something fluffy and cute too You made it modern, and you did a really good job at it.
When I saw "mangy chicken" I loled. Mangy is something I say often and seeing it used as a curse towards chickens is hilarious XD I just picture this chicken perched on something it's not supposed to be on with this offended and scandalized look on its face. "Me, mangy? How dare you!"
As to Tom, great characterization. I feel you really let his natural personality shine through, you didn't make him something he's not and would never be. It's difficult to write Tom sometimes because most people just want to use his image and completely smear it with bad character writing, but you didn't do that. You captured him, and how I think he'd actually act. He'd come off as cool, calm and collected but when it's go time, goodbye rationality, he's a mental case and running around like a headless chook. Really well down.
