Very well written! I bawled my eyes out though. My husband was in the military for eight years and I know the feeling of wondering if the one you love is ok when you haven't heard from them in weeks. (Thankfully he's stayed safe so far, he still works in Afghanistan as a civilian.)

This was amazing. First entry I read to my contest and I'm blown away.

It had all the things I love in a story, I loved the flashbacks where you could see how it was before he had to be departed to the war, the good times turned into a bad one, something that haunted Carolyne as he was away. It was really heartfelt and the emotions from this, especially the letter were just spewing out and so were my tears by the end of it.

Also, even if it was unfair towards her, I still loved how Brian was loyal to his job and his friends, like his second family and you could tell how much of a struggle it was for him to leave the love of his life- especially once he started crying (I kind of figured out before I read it why he cried hehe). It just kind of tied it all together because he exposed his fear, that he also was scared just like Carolyne, except he's probably had to stay strong for her sake.
