Wow. This hit home really hard. Every moment in this just cuts deeper with emotion. The theme of loss in particular is very prevalent, and very well-written. The loss of their love, the loss of his caring, e.t.c. But the almost more important part is what wasn't lost - what they can't let go of. How you mention that he can't forget about it and they have to remain friends because he 'needs' her and she just wants as much of him as she can possibly have. The repetition of the, "they knew...", "she knew...", and "he knew..." was also a very powerful tool in your writing. Overall, this was a heartbreaking and deep piece, but very well written. Great work.
