The language is uncomplicated, the story is very very simple and a little strange, the characters are relatable. The book is hardly a brilliant piece of writing but has a warm comfort to it. It’s a plain vanilla story of Boy vs. Girl and then they fall in love. The situations and plot twists are quite basic but they highlight the Mills & Boon type of stories, no frills. The ending and the sudden introduction of a villain throw you off but it’s all good fun.

Overall a funny and breezy book. The first 20 pages are difficult, there are too many characters and sadly they don’t turn up for most of the novel. The story is very simple and a little like those summer rom-coms but without any freshness. The book is a decent one time read don’t expect anything mind-blowing. The book fits the YA expectations well – simple story, standard characters and easy resolutions. Am waiting for a more complicated YA novel.

How I Won the Love Deal is a delightful and funny story that all of us can relate to. When Liana’s childhood friend Asher becomes her high school nemesis and challenges her to make him fall for her, she devises a plan with her best friends. The story is simple, a little out there and even tacky but it belongs to the last few years as a teenager that we all wish had never happened. There are some fairy tale aspects to the story but logic in any case is not very prominent.
A goofy dorky story about high school embarrassments.
