oh my god I LOVE that line. I think it pretty much summarizes this entire story, the whole cycle they're going through and the game they play with each other until he takes it too far. I love this so much. you can feel his despair and the emptiness and the anxiety of waiting for her, not knowing if she'll ever come back, but keeping that hope anyway. I love the conciseness and the diction and just the overall pace, it's short and sweet but it definitely sticks with you. ugh your writing is always so good!! <333
