I’m here for the ‘Summer Is Here’ contest.
Ahh, what a sweet and romantic piece! I really enjoyed this because whilst it had this underlying sadness and anxiety to it because Brett was a soldier (and of course, Graham missed him), there was also a warm and romantic feeling to it. It kept increasing more and more until that moment Graham came face to face with Brett. It was such an emotional and sweet moment that I’m so glad you wrote. I’m so used to heartbreak and tragedy in ‘war’ (not quite sure what to call this, oops) stories so this was a very nice and welcome change—especially with LGBT+ characters.
I also love how Melissa totally knew about Brett making an appearance at the fair. Once it happened and I went back to what she said during lunch, I realized that it was foreshadowing and it was actually very clever. I kind of wonder if Melissa just casually took her leave. I’ll admit I was kind of curious as to where she went at the end, but only because she’s the one that dragged Graham to the fair in the first place. Nonetheless, I love Graham and Melissa’s friendship! There’s a lot of personality and mutual love between them, and you can tell just by how they interact briefly. I know that Melissa and Graham’s friendship was definitely not the focus, but it was so nice nonetheless.
And then with Brett and Graham, it was so heartwarming. I can’t even imagine that overwhelming sense of relief and love when someone that was deploying surprises you. I think I would break down and cry a good bit, too. And I’m not even an easy crier. That’s just so many emotions in one fell swoop. Brett’s little declaration was the absolute cutest, too!
All in all, I really enjoyed this. It was adorable, emotional, and just so damn sweet. Fantastic job!
Thank you
