ghhhhh i've imagined that scenario so many times??? chuuya doing that ungodly smirk, that hardly-counts-as-a-smile-but-this-is-a-smile smile towards kunikida and kunikida is like ??? what is that because that sort of flush he gets is just unfamiliar and he hasn't had to deal with anything like that or anyone like chuuya and it's all kinda new because he's got everything planned out for, what, four years or more? and then chuuya comes in with that smirk and tears it all down without even meaning to, he's just doing his thing, living his life while kunikida's out here rethinking the whole thing because chuuya was not accounted for, but there's no way he's ever working around him or removing him from the equation. he's permanent.
GDJKSHGRDJGDRFJKGH CHUUYA MY LIFE SPAN JUST GOT EXTENDED 2000 YEARS THAT'S SUCH A PURE THOUGHT. i love to imagine how one would observe the other in the quiet moments, what would be going through their heads because on the surface they are Very Different, and on the inside as well, but there are some similarities and plenty of compatibility for them to click well and imagining the two of them coming to terms with that in their own way as they look at the other doing whatever it is they love or watching them in a moment where they aren't as stiff or putting on airs, it makes me so happy. chuuya watching kunikida for who knows how long as kuni just goes to work and chuuya's so into kuni without even realizing and before he knows it kuni is looking up like "did you need something?" and chuuya becomes -154526365% less cool and he just kinda turns away like "WHAT NO what are you talking about" and he's got all these thoughts in his head about how nice it was to see kuni so relaxed and how?? unnecessarily attractive he is?? HUHHHH

I NEED THAT IN MY LIFE. i 9000% headcanon that they're both good at cooking for different reasons (kunikida just? seems like the type; he needs to know how to cook, not even for his future partner but to be able to sustain himself, not to mention he totally makes lunches for the ADA sometimes, you can't take that away from me, and it's shown that he takes the wheel from dazai when they're cooking because dazai is...A Disaster and kuni is efficient and i feel like he wants to be good at everything he does because that's how it should be. and chuuya has to be able to cook; no one's gonna help him live but him. kouyou might do something every once in a while and there's no way she'll let him starve, but no way in hell is he gonna depend on someone to have to make meals for him all the time when he's more than capable of doing it himself, and sure, it isn't perfect every time, but he's not the worst. that's all he needs to be.) PLAYING WITH EACH OTHER'S HAIR??? oh my god their sleeping positions gjkfdjgkdhr they have to do the most to get properly comfortable because kunikida's got some long ass legs (and arms. and torso. and god he's just long.) and it's hard for him to really sleep next to anyone because he always knees the other person, not to mention he's used to sleeping alone so he just kinda lets his legs draw up or stretch out at will, but with chuuya beside him, it's different and he takes great care in not hearing "YOU KICKED ME FOR THE THIRD TIME IN TEN MINUTES WTF," so he tries to arrange himself in such a way that chuuya doesn't get hit, but it looks super uncomfortable because his knees may as well be in his throat, so chuuya goes out of his way to try and keep out of the potential path of kuni's legs but, short or not, he's got some long legs of his own so he has to make sure that he doesn't kick anyone, either, so it's just a lot of trouble and ridiculous tossing and turning until one of them decides spooning is the way. and that isn't perfectly smooth either because long but that's okay because they're comfy and happy and together? and that's what matters.
CHUUYA IS A HUNDRED PERCENT A DROOLER BYE and kuni's first instinct is to go "oh my god no" but he takes a moment and chuuya is actually peaceful, and he's lowkey blinded by how pretty and warm chuuya is at all times of the day, so he can't really fault it and he just pretends like he's fallen asleep again by the time chuuya wakes up to save him the embarrassment.
THEY TOTALLY ENJOY THE SILENCE WITH EACH OTHER BECAUSE IT'S NOT AWKWARD OR STRAINED IT'S JUST PURE PEACE. they grow to understand each other so well that they don't have to talk all the time. the quiet between them is enough; they can read expressions and they just know and kunikida's headaches don't always melt away when he's with chuuya, but chuuya can kind of make him forget about the bs that exists outside of the realm of the two of them and he's at peace. (PLS GIVE HIM PEACE HE HAS EARNED IT SO HARD COME ON STOP TORTURING HIM HE DESERVES ONLY HAPPINESS AND RELAXATION)

HONESTLY!!! that is the first thing i thought of when i realized both kunikida and chuuya were really skilled at martial arts; kuni's definitely the best in the agency (not counting fukuzawa because Father Knows All) and chuuya is the best in the mafia and y'all just. don't give me that sweet martial arts scene? you just. you just leave me hanging? don't build me up to knock me off a cliff, okay. GIVE ME THE BOYS PRACTICING MARTIAL ARTS. GIVE ME THEM BONDING AND HAPPY. I DEMAND RELIEF.

Them just stumbling across each other. And then they keep bumping into each other.
And when they do actually officially go out for the first time, against expectations, it's not just a vent fest. Although obviously they can and likely do vent to open up the initial conversation it just devolves into this intense kind of talking about everything, because they find each other so genuinely fascinating, the discussion of ideals and loyalties and wanting things out of life and working to achieve these things and the sense of accomplishment it brings and now I'm just imagining them leaning across the table enraptured by each other, so caught up in conversation and halp.
And I imagine at some point Dazai runs across the knowledge that they're seeing more of each other and he just smiles. Just genuinely smiles because I'm a sucker and believe he cares about both of them, to whatever capacity he can, and jealous!Dazai is not my kink, he's not that kind of person to me but n e way but then flips to "ah shit" because he imagines not just the things they say but also the ultimate power of the combined withering glare they can give him in tandem and he thinks maybe he needs to go lay down somewhere.
There may or may not be at least one thing in the works that may or may not contain some of these things.
OH MY GOD THE IDEA OF ONE OR THE OTHER WATCHING THE OTHER ONE SLEEP I. Between. Kunikida waking up first because he's sensible enough to try to sleep and Chuuya not being able to sleep well the sheer potential is there for some really great introspection from both of them?! And just. It's such a moment of vulnerability. A moment when two such put together boys are suddenly not so put together aND I WILL FIGHT FOR THIS SHIP JAYSUS.

Okay I'm back for a second because of all the things I've been thinking about all day it's the goddamn height difference and how they don't even realize until someone points it out? Like obviously they know. But all the little things they've adjusted to day to day that they just do on autopilot and also because neither of them have ever made it into a thing. And then someone makes a joke or whatever and they both have to think about it to the extent that no one can even get mad or care.
I just. Idk. I imagine them being so well balanced and each being a soothing presence to the other? Like I think about Chuuya sitting on the couch doing whatever and Kunikida enters, just over it, and kind of flops over on top of him and buries his face in his shoulder and just groans and Chuuya rests his hand on the back of Kunikida's head and they both say nothing, because there's nothing to say when you get each other like that. Same obviously goes for Chuuya, although for an odd reason I imagine him coming in while Kunikida is working on something and just burying his face in Kuni's back and wrapping his arms around him like he wants to absorb him and letting out this weird frustrated grumble/scream. And Kunikida can't help but suppress a laugh not because it's funny but because what the hell is that noise?
They are so blasphemed I cry. I think even Dazai would cry. TBH.
Imagine them grocery shopping. Imagine them getting in the car together and Chuuya initally goes to get on the driver's side but stops with his hand on the handle and just kind of realizes and walks away without saying anything, because it works better for both of them if Kunikida drives.
Also pls consider, in light of the motorcycle situation, them riding a motorcycle.
Also look, I'm back I think about them being shopping or just out somewhere and Kunikida being so calculating and good with budgeting because of that, and it's not that he can't afford things,but there's a time and a place, obviously, but then Chuuya is just like "oh this thing, you want it? Here" just because he does stuff like that without thinking because to him life is too short, get the things you want if you have the extra and Kunikida doesn't know how to handle that at first but then they kind of teach each other a few things about each of their views on it.
Honestly I think a lot about Chuuya and how he lives to the fullest because frickin' Corruption is going to get him one day, but he's going to make the most of it and himself and I think that that mindset would meld well with Kunikida and how he holds himself to a higher ideal and STOP ME PLS.
ONE MORE THING CAUSE SPEAKING OF LONG. Somehow them putting on each others' clothes in a hurry to get going and they don't really realize, though obviously something is really weird, until they bump into each other because they're just the preoccupied and once they see each other they end up being late to wherever the heck it is they were going because it's so goddamn funny because how did they even and also they look hilarious.
