Hi, hello, hey, first I like the layout for this. It's clean, readable and the banner is lovely!
I'm actually super-interested to read something set in the now-times, because I feel like it's more relatable at this stage to read something set when COVID-19 has started to set in. I also love the idea of reading about how someone else reacts to it so instantly I'm rather excited to see this! Also that bit with the steam around the door? I laughed because that is 100% me searing my skin off in the shower and I loved the comparison to it being like a cryogenic chamber. Also I love Brian's reaction to lockdown, it was pretty much mine. Gotta go get beer, it's the most important!
Their little awkward exchange at the end of the first chapter, too? I love it. Too often I read this 100% confident exchange and I don't know, it just doesn't seem realistic? This seems 100% realistic to every single awkward drunken encounter I've ever had in my entire liftime and I just love it. It gives the story this ground and makes me excited to see where it'll go - they've kissed, so now what? It doesn't give everything away in the first chapter and I love that.
Chapter two, how did you get a word-for-word replica of me playing COD? Seriously though, I love the way this is playing out. They're both getting irritated at each other for no reason which I think, honestly, everyone can relate to. I was on edge for the first month or 2 and that was with my family and not someone I may have awkwardly kissed, so I think that's dragging me right into the middle of the story because you can actually see this playing out really well. What I really like about this too is that you aren't having them just jump each others' bones and be alright with it the next day. You've got this constant back and forth with them of wanting to jump each others' bones and also thinking through the repercussions. It gives this an extra depth that I'm really enjoying, it fleshes the characters out really well and allows the reader to feel the emotional rollercoaster through them.
And then in three we finally have them actually talking about it, which I love. It gives both the character this stubborn air to them, and then they bring down these walls. I like that, that it's not just a sudden thing they don't talk about because any relationship that blossoms between people who were previously friends isn't just going to be all perfect and lovely-dovey from the beginning so I absolutely adore that they have this conversation and they're having the fights and everything isn't perfect. It just gives this three-dimensional aspect to everything that I really enjoy, it gives the story depth and makes it really interesting to read.
All of the realism / serious talk aside, I love also that you have these little light bits of humour to dice everything up. In particular I really enjoyed the electrolyte comment at the end of chapter four. It really is such a boy scout thing to do, I love it. Overall, I'm really enjoying this so far! Are you planning on continuing it?
I really liked the mean girls reference with the 'get in the car loser, we're going shopping' (It may not have been intentional but my brain went straight to that film). Their first kiss and the drunken awkwardness was well written and came across very naturally, giving the whole scene a realistic feel.
Overall it's definitely something that I will finish reading and I'm excited to see where the story goes.
