Sequel: Torment

Killing Jar

New

"You already finished a new song?" Brendon asked. We were at the studio. Brendon had found me in one of the empty rooms, playing my guitar.

"Yeah," I said smiling.

"Wow," he said. "Can I hear it?"

"I guess so," I said. I started playing the song on my guitar.

"I am outside
And I've been waiting for the sun
With my wide eyes
I've seen worlds that don't belong
My mouth is dry with words I cannot verbalize
Tell me why we live like this

Keep me safe inside
Your arms like towers
Tower over me

Yeah
'Cause we are broken
What must we do to restore
Our innocence
And oh, the promise we adored
Give us life again
'Cause we just wanna be whole

Lock the doors
Cause I'd like to capture this voice
It came to me tonight
So everyone will have a choice
And under red lights
I'll show myself it wasn't forged
We're at war
We live like this

Keep me safe inside
Your arms like towers
Tower over me

'Cause we are broken
What must we do to restore
Our innocence
And oh, the promise we adored
Give us life again
'Cause we just wanna be whole

Tower over me
Tower over me

And I'll take the truth at any cost

'Cause we are broken
What must we do to restore
Our innocence
And oh, the promise we adored
Give us life again
'Cause we just wanna be whole"

"I like it," Brendon said.

"Thanks," I said quietly.

"Are you ok?" he asked, moving to sit closer to me.

"Yeah," I said. "I'm fine."

Brendon frowned and wrapped an arm around my shoulders. He took my guitar away from me and gently set it aside, before fully hugging me. I buried my face in my neck.

I hated my real job sometimes. I didn't like having the power to kill someone. I realized I had started crying so I pulled away from Brendon and wiped my eyes.

"Sorry," I said.

"You don't have to apologize," he said. Brendon reached up and wiped my face off again. I was still crying. His fingertips rested on my cheek as his face moved towards mine. I felt my breathing increase as I felt Brendon's warm breath on my face. His lips touched mine gently, but only for a moment. I jumped back.

"Sorry," Brendon said.

"No," I said. "I'm sorry. You just--startled me is all."

I didn't want to put him at risk. But I didn't want to hurt him.

I leaned forward and kissed Brendon this time. I pulled away slowly.

"There was no need to appologize," I said smiling at him. He smiled back.

I really liked Brendon. I had never gotten a chance to really know any one, so this was all new to me. I just hoped I wouldn't end up hurting him--Or worse, killing him.
