The Window of Opportunity

Chapter 3

The next day,
January 29th

Amy sat alone at lunch with her I Pod blasting “American Idiot” in her ears. She was getting weird stares from people but took no notice. She hadn't eaten anything yet but she wasn't very hungry anyway. She had a note book out and started writing Billie Joe in all different types of writing. She liked Billie the best and Mike and Tre about the same.

She had her I pod programmed to play randomly so the next song that came on was “She's a rebel”. One of her favourites. It was coming up to her favourite line, “She's a rebel, she's a saint, she's the salt of the earth and she's dangerous. She's a rebel Vigilante, the missing link on the brink of destruction. From Chicago, to...” when some one tapped her on the shoulder.

“Damn, what?” She shouted turning around to see a girl standing there. She had short brown hair with glasses, wearing a sum 41 t-shirt and... a belt like Billie Joes.
“Oh, hi sorry, I was in a world of my own”, she said pulling the ear phones out of her ears.
Amy loved Sum 41 too. And Good Charlotte, Bowling for soup. Stuff like that. She thought, “hey this girl is like me. Maybe I can finally get a friend.”

The girl sat down next to Amy and said, “hey I...couldn't help but hear you listening to Green Day. They rock”.
Amy just smiled, “yeah you're right”, she laughed.
“Hi I'm Cookie”, the girl said holding her hand out.
“Amy Lee”, she replied shaking her hand.

Cookie and Amy had been talking about all of their favourite bands. They had so much in common.
“So how did you get the name Cookie, is it a nick name or something?” Amy asked.
“No Cookie is my name. My mom let me pick my own name when I was three”, Cookie laughed.
Amy joined her, “really”, she laughed in disbelief. Cookie just nodded.
“Have you heard about this Green Day gig that's over here?” Amy asked still not sure if she would be aloud to go.
“Yeah I have tickets to go”, Cookie said taking a mouthful of water.
“No way”, Amy said really jealous.
“My cousin was gonna take me but she is going to be in hospital when the gig is here”, Cookie said.
“So what does that mean?” Amy asked hoping that mean a ticket was on sale.
“I have a spare ticket. Actually that's kind of why I came over. My mom won't let me go on my own and I really want to go”, Cookie said smiling at Amy.
After a second of pausing Amy said, “Are you asking me to come with you?”
Cookie nodded, “Yeah you don't have to pay or anything. I just need someone to go with. I don't really have friends so”, Cookie said looking at Amy's jaw drop.
“Me either. You want me to go with you to a concert, without paying you anything?” Amy asked still in disbelief.
Cookie nodded and said, “I know we don't really know that much about each other but we can, you know, hang out before the show comes”.
Amy shook her head, “shut up”, she said excitedly, “shut up shut up”.
Cookie couldn't help but laugh, “is that a yes”, she asked.
Amy got off her seat and stood on her chair, “yes, yes, yes”, she shouted.
“God I could kiss you right now”, she said down to cookie.
She just laughed and said, “yeah don”t do that”.

After school Amy went straight upstairs to her bedroom. She was sitting at her computer because she had gotten Cookie's MSN address so they were talking. Amy's screen name was “Pretty&Punk98”.
Cookie's was “SJackCaptain”, she loved the Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

SJackCaptain: Have you asked your parents about the concert?
Pretty&Punk98: No, I'm a little scared. David is so strict.
SJackCaptain: Well you're not gonna know until you ask!
Pretty&Punk98: I know. Maybe I can just sneak out and not tell them.
SJackCaptain: You can't!
Pretty&Punk98: Yeah maybe you're right. Their just so strict. Especially because there's not gonna be anyone going with us.
SJackCaptain: My mom will drive us, I don't know do something until its over, then come pick us up!
Pretty&Punk98: Sounds so simple.
SJackCaptain: It is.
Pretty&Punk98: Ok I'll ask. I'll see you tomorrow, ok?
SJackCaptain: Sure.
(SJackCaptain has signed out)

Amy turned her computer off and went down stairs to ask. She thought she'd ask Mya first.
She was in the living room reading a magazine.
“Mya?” Amy asked a little nervous.
“Yeah”, Mya answered closing the magazine.
“I need to tell you something”, Amy said sitting next to her.
“What?” Mya asked closing the magazine.
“I'm kind of nervous but I'm just going to say it. I have a new friend and she has tickets to the Green Day concert. She says I don't have to pay for the ticket but I can go with her”, Amy said a little nervous of the reaction she could get.
“R-i-ght”, Mya said looking at away from her.
“Please can I go? Her mom is gonna take us”, Amy begged.
“I'll have to think about it Amy. I was more willing for you to go when I knew I was going with you. I don't know if I want you to go with some people I don't know”, Mya said calmly.
“Please”, Amy said looking at her with puppy dog eyes.
“I'll tell you what. If I can call and reserve a ticket then I'll come but If I can't. Then I don't think I'm going to let you go”, Mya said.
Amy could see that she wasn't happy about what she just said.
“You go get yourself in bed and I'll see if I can get a ticket”, Mya said kissing Amy's forehead.
“Ok”, Amy said then doing what she said.
