The Beginning of Forever

"Hey." I said cheerfully when Ed opened the door.

"Rory?" He questioned. "You do know that it's--"

"Not Christmas?" he nodded. "Yeah. I know." I thought about the fight with Jacob, then my parents. "I just needed to get away."

"Okay. Come in." He moved away from the door.

"Can I put Toby in the back?" I said, moving my dog around in my arms. He nodded. "I am so sorry for just showing up the this. Especially since you guys only met me yesterday." I said walking towards the back.

"It's not a big deal. We weren't doing anything today anyway. Plus, Nessie loves you. She will be so happy to see you."

"That's nice. Here's one kid that could love me forever." I set Toby down on the grass and he instantly ran off.

"I'm sorry?" I turned around and looked at him.

"You really want to get into this?"

"If it's bothering you, you can talk about it. It always helps." I sighed.

"Jacob knows we will end up together forever. He knows I want kids. Unfortunately for him, I would have to give up my wolf. The beginning of forever never seemed so far away."

"You don't want to give up the wolf?"

"I'm all for it. I could do it in a heartbeat for the reason I want to. Jacob, on the other hand, doesn't like leaving me unable to defend myself."

"But he would be there for you."

"He would have to give up his, too, in order to stay with me and grow old."

"Shouldn't being with you be enough?"

"I think so. It should. But in his world, forever means forever! As in I don't grow old. I am stuck in this seventeen year old body for the rest of my life."

"I'm seventeen."

"Not technically."

"My body is seventeen."

"I don't want to live like a seventeen year old forever. I want to grow old. Have kids. Have a normal human life."

"Normal is far from what our lives will ever be." I nodded, know that it was extremely true.

"Can I see Nessie?"

"Of course." He led me upstairs into what he said was his room. It was at the corner of the house and both outside walls were windows. Another wall was a bookshelf full of CD's. "Nessie?" She turned around.

"Aunt Rory!" She stood up and ran over hugging my legs. She was bigger even since yesterday.

"Aunt?" I asked Ed.

"Bella got her into it. She wouldn't stop showing you to us. Plus, we figured you and Jacob were im-" He stopped.

"You can say it." I picked up the little girl. He smiled.

"We figured since you and Jacob were imprinted, you would eventually be married." I nodded.

"Aunt Rory?"

"Sup, babe." She showed me her memory of us running yesterday. "Not right now. I didn't tell Uncle Jake that I was here."

"Why?"

"Um..." I looked at Ed for a save.

"She wanted to surprise you so she couldn't tell him."

Thanks. I thought. He nodded. I looked at Nessie.

"I have a friend for you to meet." I walked out of his door, with her still in my grasp.

"Who?"

"He's an old friend of mine. He has helped me get through a lot." She showed me a memory of Jacob. "No, honey. Nothing bad has ever happened between me and Uncle Jake." Until now. Ed laughed at my thought. "But a few months ago..." I told Ed what I was going to tell her in my head.

"I'm so sorry." He said.

Can I tell her?

"Of course."

"A few months ago, I lost someone very important to me. My mommy died of Leukemia. Do you know what that is?" She shook her head.
"It's a sickness that for some people is very hard to make go away. Luckily, my mom got me Toby as a present when school started." I had reached the back door and headed outside.

"Toby?" I smiled. I brought my hand to my mouth and whistled. A minute later, a little dog came from the side of the house. I put Renesmee down on the grass. “Toby, sit.” He obeyed. He sat there. “Toby this is Renesmee. She is a very special friend to me and…Daddy.” He perked up when I mentioned Jacob. “I want you to be extra nice to her.” He barked. “I’ll take that as an okay.” Ed laughed. Nessie looked up at me. “Go on. He won’t hurt. He’s only a smaller version of me and Uncle Jake.” She took a step forward. Toby stood up and reached out to sniff Nessie. He stood back, when suddenly Nessie launched herself at Toby. Ed froze. I burst out laughing. They rolled over and Toby was licking Nessie’s face. She was laughing so hard.

“Are you sure she’s safe?” Ed asked.

“Ed chill. She’s half vampire. I’m sure she’ll be fine. He’s only a puppy.”

“Yeah and so are you.” He pointed out.

“I haven’t hurt Nessie. I gave her a ride.” He nodded.

“Are you hungry? Can I get you anything?”

“Actually, if you don’t mind, I skipped breakfast.”

“Of course. We always have food for you guys.”

“Great.”

“Nessie, come on inside with us.” He grabbed her little hand and led her into the house.

“Toby, stay.” He sat. I smiled and followed Ed and Nessie inside. “Where is Bella?”

“She, Alice, Rose, and Esme are hunting. For some girl time. The boys are fixing up our house…”

“In other words, planting flowers and baby proofing?”

“Yeah just about.” We arrived at the kitchen and Nessie kept walking into the living room. “What would you like?”

“Do you have any waffles?”

“I think so. Is that all you want?”

“Yeah. I haven’t been very hungry since last night.” He reached into the freezer and pulled out two Eggos, and popped them into the toaster.

“Do you want to talk about it?”

“Not really. I mean, I do, but I don’t know what I could say that you don’t already know.” I chuckled. Ed smiled. “But seriously. When Embry said that, I just…got so angry. I thought it was very clear that I didn’t want my parents to know about our problems.”

“Do you want me to rough him up a bit?”

“No. I love Embry like my brother. But sometimes…”

“He makes you want to bite his head off?”

“I would hug you right now, but you smell really bad.” He laughing.

“That’s alright. We don’t have to hug. I just mentally hugged you.” I laughed. He was a really good guy. I don’t see why Jacob isn’t happy for Bella.
