Love Hides (in the Strangest Places)

11. L.A. Woman

It’s been 5 months since I got my job at Rolling Stone magazine and so-far I was doing great. Mr. Wenner and Mr. Gleason were giving me more and more projects to write about. The only thing wrong was, Mr. Gleason still didn’t trust James around me.

I awoke to the phone ringing and groggily I sat up, answering it.
“Hello?” I asked.
“Superstar!” a male voice said on the other end.
“Hello?” I asked, confused.
“I have a job opportunity for you.” The voice became familiar.
“Mr. Wenner?”
“Good girl.”
“Um, sorry, what was that you said before?”
Jim stirred in bed and came behind me putting his arms around me, kissing my shoulders.
“I said I have a job opportunity for you.”
“Great, well, what is it?”
“Well, the Doors are in the studio for their next LP, L.A. Woman.” He explained.
“Yes.” I said, my heart pounding in my ears.
“Well, we’re hoping that you could spend some time with them in the studio as they’re recording.”
“Oh, my gosh!”
“Your hotel and plane and accommodations and all that jazz will be paid for by the magazine. As soon as they begin, you begin.”
“Thank you so much! How did you ever pull this off?”
“Well, I told Ralph that it would be the perfect opportunity for you to show us that you can still work while Morrison is around. He ate it up like candy.”
“Thank you so so much! I’ll make you proud.”
“You already have.”
I hung up the phone and began jumping up and down. Jim looked at me as if I were crazy. I slowly stopped jumping and then jumped on Jim and he fell back on the bed. I wrapped my arms around him and squeezed.
“What are you doing?” Jim groaned.
“I get to stay with you!” I yelled.
“What?”
“Mr. Wenner called and told me that I’ll be with you in the studio, getting the inside scoop on the Doors.”
“Now I get to have you with me all the time.” Jim smirked.
“Yes you do.” I smirked back, kissing him.

“Elanor, we heard you were going to be joining us from now on.” Ray smiled, hugging me as soon as I stepped into the recording studio.
“I know, we’re going to have so much fun!” I smiled widely.

For the rest of the day I hung out with the guys and watched them try to get their songs right. One song in particular caught my ear. Jim said it was called L.A. Woman. It was about me.
Well, I just got into town about an hour ago
Took a look around, see which way the wind blow
With a little girl in a Hollywood bungalow
Are you a lucky little lady in The City of Light
Or just another lost angel...City of Night
City of Night, City of Night, City of Night, woo, c'mon
L.A. Woman, L.A. Woman
L.A. Woman Sunday afternoon
L.A. Woman Sunday afternoon
L.A. Woman Sunday afternoon
Drive thru your suburbs
Into your blues, into your blues, yeah
Into your blue-blue Blues
Into your blues, ohh, yeah
I see your hair is burnin'
Hills are filled with fire
If they say I never loved you
You know they are a liar
Drivin' down your freeways
Midnite alleys roam
Cops in cars, the topless bars
Never saw a woman
So alone, so alone
So alone, so alone
Motel Money Murder Madness
Let's change the mood from glad to sadness
Mr. Mojo Risin', Mr. Mojo Risin'
Mr. Mojo Risin', Mr. Mojo Risin'
Got to keep on risin'
Mr. Mojo Risin', Mr. Mojo Risin'
Mojo Risin', gotta Mojo Risin'
Mr. Mojo Risin', gotta keep on risin'
Risin', risin'
Gone risin', risin'
I'm gone risin', risin'
I gotta risin', risin'
Well, risin', risin'
I gotta, wooo! Bang! Bang!
Woah, ohh yeah
Well, I just got into town about an hour ago
Took a look around, see which way the wind blow
With a little girl in a Hollywood bungalow
Oh you were like a little lady in The City of Lights
Or just another lost angel...City of Night
City of Night, City of Night, City of Night, woah, c'mon
L.A. Woman, L.A. Woman
L.A. Woman, you're my woman
Little L.A. Woman, Little L.A. Woman
L.A. L.A. Woman Woman
L.A. Woman c'mon
He was referring to the fact that I’d grown up in L.A. I hated it, and I was alone, until Jim came along. He saved me.
