Black Heart

chapter three.

“What happened?” she asked as she looked at my arm.

I followed her gaze and looked at my arms.

“Oh.. It’s nothing. Just have a bad cat at home.” I said as I thought. “Shit! I thought my damn jacket was on.” Roxie laughed. “yeah.. that’s why I rather dogs.” I smiled as we walked out the bathroom. We both looked around and saw him. Once again, there was Cade, leaning against the wall, waiting.

“Hey Cade.” Roxie smiled as we walked over to him.

He looked up and looked at me as he replied. “Hi.” he smiled.

We stood there for a while in silence. Cade was looking at me, Roxie was looking at Cade, and I was waiting for someone to talk. Maybe silence wasn’t as good as I thought.

“So Sam.. I was wondering if you wanted me to show you around New York some time..” Cade asked with a shy smile.

“Sure that would be great.” I smiled as I looked at his and Roxie’s expression. Cade looked happy, while Roxie looked pissed.

“Um.. I have to get to class.” Roxie said as she started walking away.

I could hear her mutter something as she started running.

“So when do you want to give me the tour?” I asked as I watched Roxie run out the hall.

“Today. If you want..” he said. The sound of his voice sounded hopeful.

I smiled. “Yeah sure.”

“Okay great!” he answered right away. “We’ll leave right after school.”

“Okay. Let me give my dad a call to tell him.” I turned and made my way to the girl’s bathroom. As I walked into the bathroom, I heard a loud ‘YES!’. I laughed knowing it was Cade. I went into the bathroom to text my dad.

Hey dad. Won’t be home until late tonight. A kid’s showing me around New York today. I’ll talk to you later.

-Sam.

I sent the text and put my phone in my bag. As I looked in my bag I noticed that the razor shined at me as if calling me to use it. I really had no reason to use it anymore, but I wanted to feel the pain as the blade slid across my arm. I took the razor out of my bag and smiled. I passed my finger lightly on the blade.

“Still sharp..” I thought.

I put it on my arm, the sharp end touching my skin as I slit my wrist. The blood barely flowed out. It wasn’t a big cut, and it wasn’t that deep. I grabbed a napkin and cleaned the little blood that flowed on my arm. I was trying to stall so I could miss my next class, but I had to hurry, Cade was probably waiting. I threw the razor in my bag and walked out the restroom. Cade looked in my direction and smiled.

“God. He smiles a lot.” I thought as I walked over to him.

“Hey.” I smiled.

“Hey. So what’s your next class?” he asked.

“English.” the smile faded as I said this.

I had always hated English at my other schools, it’s like what’s the point of having an English in America. We already know how to speak the language.

“Cool me too.” he smiled at first, but then the smile faded when he noticed my expression. “What’s wrong?” he asked with concern.

Just hate English that’s all.” I looked back at him.

I noticed his eyes were a lighter shade of green than this morning.

“Well.. If you want to.. We can ditch class and get a head start on that tour.” he suggested as he looked into my eyes again.
“Sure that would be awesome.” I smiled.

“Okay we’ll take my truck.” he hesitantly took my hand and led me to his black ford truck. He opened the passenger door for me and I got in. he closed the door, went to the driver’s side, got in the car, and started driving.

“So where we going first?” I asked as I looked out the window.

“You’ll see.” he replied.

We continued driving until we got to this grassy area. There was a large oak tree and a huge pond. He got out the car and came to the passenger’s side. He opened the door, and I got out. We walked over to the oak tree and he sat down. I sat next to him and looked at him with a slight confused expression.

“Where are we?” I asked as I looked around.

“Central Park.” I saw him look at me and smile, which made me smile too.

We sat there for a while. I was looking at the water, daydreaming.

“So.. How do you like it here?” he asked. I turned my head and looked at him. He was looking at me smiling.

“It’s really cool here.” I smiled too.

We sat there the rest of the day. He would ask me a question every now and then and I’d answer. I didn’t know why, but it felt like I could tell him everything. It felt weird.. But I liked the feeling. The sun had gone down and we were still in Central Park. I looked at my cell and noticed the time.

“I have to go.” I stood up and started to walk away.

“Wait! I’ll bring you back home.” he ran up to me.

“Okay.” I said as we walked over to his truck.

We got in and he drove to my house. The ride was short, and before I knew it, we were in front of my apartment building.

I got out of his truck and smiled. “Thanks for the great time.”

He was smiling too. “You’re welcome. Hey since your car’s still at school, do you want me to bring you to school tomorrow?”

He looked into my eyes. Whenever he did that, it was like time had frozen still, and we were the only two left unfrozen by time.

“Yeah. Sure. Thanks.” I said, but I wasn’t really thinking at that moment.

He leaned over and kissed my cheek. I blushed. Not only did he kiss me, but I had never noticed him get out of his truck.

“Bye.” he said softly as he walked back to his truck.

“Bye.” I replied as he drove away.

I went inside and changed into my pajamas after taking a quick shower. I sat on my bed and looked out the window, thinking about Cade.

“Damn it!” I yelled the next morning. I had woken up from hitting my head on the bedpost, and I could feel a bruise forming. I looked at the alarm clock. It was 7:15 am, and Cade was picking me up for school at 7:20 am. I hurried to my closet, and grabbed a pair of skinny jeans and a black tee. I changed into then and looked in the mirror.

“Good enough.” I thought as I grabbed my bag and ran downstairs. I went to the kitchen, my dad had already left. I grabbed a granola bar and a water bottle and ran out the apartment. There waiting for me was Cade. He smiled when he noticed I was outside.

“Good morning.” he said looking into my eyes.

“Morning.” I said as I yawned quickly after.

“Still tired?” he asked as the smile on his face turned to a grin.

Oh yeah. I’m not really a morning person.” I yawned again.

“Yeah I can see that.” he laughed. “So you ready to go?”

“Yeah sure.” I replied.

We got in his truck and he drove to school. After about five minutes of driving and smiling, we finally arrived to school. I went straight to my car and Cade followed.

“So do you want to go to Central Park again some time?” he asked.

“Yeah that’d be awesome.” I smiled.

“If you want to, we can skip English again..” he suggested.

“Okay great.” I smiled as we walked over to my locker.

I grabbed my books and we walked to class. That’s how it had been for the past week. We would go to school, and stay all day. Well at least majority of the day, but we would skip English class to go to Central park. I didn’t know why, but the more I was with Cade, the more I could, I don’t know, be me I guess. We were both leaning against the oak tree one night and well it was magical. He had his arm around me, and I was cuddled into his chest. A lot of things had changed since my first day here. The most dramatic change I faced was ever since I started hanging around with Cade, I stopped cutting myself. I looked at him and he was smiling, it made me smile too.

“Sam. Can I tell you something?” he looked at me, and the smile on his face faded.

“Yeah. You can tell me anything Cade.” I smiled.

“I think I love you Sam.” he said as he blushed.

“Wow..” was all I could say.

I loved him, but I wasn’t sure if I should tell him, so I just sat there, cuddled into his chest.

“Please say something.” he looked at me.

“I don’t know what to say” I replied.

“Just say you love me back.” he pushed a lock of hair out of my eyes.

“I’m not sure if I do.” I looked down.

“Well let me help you decide.” he lifted my chin, and we stared into each other’s eyes. “I love you.” he said.

He leaned towards me and kissed me. I could feel that the kiss wasn’t meant to be long, but as he pulled away, I pulled him back into the kiss. After a while the kiss finally ended and I looked at him, he was smiling, which made me smile too.

“I think I love you too Cade, but you may need to convince me some more.” I said.

“I think I can do that.” he smirked as we kissed again.

I woke up and somehow it was the next morning. I had no clue as to where I was. I looked around and realized that I had fallen asleep in Central Park. I sat up and looked next to me. There was Cade. He was still asleep, and he was smiling. He was really cute when he was asleep, and I smiled. I laid back down, my head on his chest, and drifted back to sleep from the sound of his breathing. As I slept, I heard a noise, and realized it was my cell. I opened my eyes and grabbed my phone from my bag. I opened the cell and looked at the text I had just received.

SAMANTHA ELIZABETH ROGERS! Get your ass home NOW!!! In fact where the hell are you anyways??

-Dad

I looked at Cade, who was still asleep, and sighed. I didn’t want to wake him up, but I also didn’t want to leave him here alone. I was still looking at Cade, I didn’t want to leave him, better yet, I couldn’t leave him. I had just told him last night that I loved him, but I had to leave, my dad would get more and more worried, I moved his arm, that was holding me around my waist, off of me. I hated that I was about to leave. I kissed him softly on his lips and stood up. I started walking back towards my house, but as I walked around the corner, I took one last look at Cade. My apartment was only two blocks away, so it only took me five minutes to get back home. I walked into the apartment and there was my dad.

“Hey dad.” I smiled hoping I wouldn’t get into too much trouble.

“Where the hell have you been Sam? You had me worried sick.” he wasn’t even looking at me as he said this,

“I kind of fell asleep in Central Park..” I confessed and the smile on my face had faded.

“What were you even doing in Central Park anyways?” he asked, still not looking at me.

“Well..” I couldn’t tell him about Cade, and how I fell asleep in his arms, or how we had kissed and told each other that we loved one another.

“I went walking around and I stopped at Central Park..”

“You were walking alone?!” he looked at me then, it was a look of worry on his face.

“Yeah.. And well I fell asleep looking at the ducks swimming in the pond.” I smiled a little as the worried expression on my dad’s face faded.

“Okay then. Just try not to do it again.” he smiled.

I nodded and walked to my room. I closed the door and sat on my bed. All of a sudden I heard the song Fall For You start playing. I grabbed my phone and looked at the text I had just received.

Sam. Where’d you go? I woke up in Central Park and you weren’t there. I really missed you. I love you.

-Cade.

I replied to the text.

Cade. I’m so sorry I left. My dad was worried when I never went home last night. So I came home so he wouldn’t get anymore worried. Maybe if you want to, we can hang out at my house today.. I love you too.

-Sam.

I closed my cell and put it on my bedside table. I laid down on my bed, looking at the ceiling.

“I’m going to work Sam!” I heard my dad yell.

“Bye.” I replied as I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
