Boarding school will never be boring

The first weekend.

As I rolled over and slowly opened my eyes, I smiled. Today was Saturday, no classes, no teachers, and no boys.

Today was the first day of lacrosse, which meant try-outs all day. The week had not gone so smoothly. Every time Brandon and I came into contact, we were both awkward. At meals, we avoided conversation, in classes we stuck to our notes, and when our group hung out we paired with others.

It seems whatever happened between us affected us both. Well, I shouldn’t say whatever, it was that kiss.

I groaned and threw my comforter off of me. I jumped in the shower and decided to get ready for the day.

For the first non-uniform day, I wore jeans and a cute top. My flip-flops smacked across the hardwood of the dorm and down the wooden stairs.

I opened the door to head to the hall when my phone rang. I opened it to see an unread message.

Head to the hill. ☺

I snapped the device shut and headed across campus. We found the hill after Cara’s dad told us about it. We never realized it was there until we went out on a quest in search.

Once we found it, we went there everyday, until the weather changed, and snow covered the ground.

We hadn’t started eating here this year, but I might consider it. I passed the fields and stopped to watch the boys run their laps. I found the messy hair of Brandon and sighed. I carried on and walked up the grassy hill and plopped down next to the girls. The hill overlooked the entire campus; you could see the fields, some of the dorms, the library, and the art buildings.

“Good you got our text.” Cara said handing me a sandwich. I nodded and took a bite, savoring the taste.

“Yeah, good spot today.” I said looking straight at the running boys.

“Oh El, I know you and Brandon are in a tiff.” I laughed at Darla’s choice of words and shook my head.

“They’re not in a tiff, they’re in an awkward place.” Lily corrected her. I closed my eyes and zoned out, I knew my placement with Brandon was bad, and I didn’t know how to fix it.

As I wiped my face free from the sweat beads, I sighed. Practice was long, and hot. It didn’t help that this weird vibe placed between Elaina and I was bloody awful. We avoided talking, avoided eye contact, and any contact of any sorts.

I pushed the hair away from my eyes and pushed my duffel to my shoulders. Alex came up next to me and slapped my shoulder.

“Hey mate, what’s going on tonight?”

“No idea, another awkward night most likely.”

“I don’t understand what happened.”

“Yeah me either,” I stopped walking when we saw the five girls headed our way. Cara waved and headed over to us while the others stood back.

“Hey Brandon, Alex. What are you guys up to tonight?”

“Nothing why?” Alex jumped in before I could even say we were busy.

“Well, we wanted to hang out and we thought you guys could come over.”

“Sure, we’ll swing by around 8.” She smiled and nodded before heading back to the group.

“I’m going to get you your girl mate.”

So our hanging out idea turned into a party. Don’t ask me how, but it did. I locked our door, and headed down to where the music and drinks were. I soon found Cara, Lily with Alex. I smiled and grabbed a plastic red cup and drank the contents.

The brown warm liquid burned my throat, but gave my head a fuzzy feeling. I took another sip and watched as people came and left the kitchen area.

“Where’s Brandon?” I heard Cara ask, I looked up to see Alex’s reply when Brandon himself walked in the room.

I could feel my spirits soar, and I wanted to grin and hug him so badly. His button down shirt showed of his summer tan perfectly. His long brown hair hid some of his eyes, which I knew by heart were shinning magnificently.

I walked out of the room to make breathing a little easier for myself. I soon found Darla, Mark, Luke, and Kaylee. They were playing beer pong with, and I found myself interested in their game.

This night was not going the way I wanted to, and I had to get out.

The second I walked into the kitchen area, my eyes were drawn to her. Her hair was straight down and shiny. Her eyes were hidden and attracted to the ground. Her clothes fit her to the bone, and I just wanted to go to her.

She walked out of the room and Cara sighed.

“I’m sorry Bran, want me to go get her?” I shook my head no and grabbed a drink. Just as soon as I grabbed it, it was down my throat.

“How are you helping me?” I asked Alex and he shook his head.

“I tried to get her to stay but that didn’t work.”

“Whatever, I’m out of here.” I pushed my way through the crowd and down the wooden stairs.

I walked across the campus and pushed myself up the hill and stopped suddenly.

There she was.

As my eyes began to cloud over, I looked up and let out a huge breath. I got up and pushed my body towards him, and without any words my lips collided with his own. When he put his hands on my hips, I knew I had made the right choice.
