Turn Right

June 25th

“Wakey, wakey Rea, rea,” a voice said. I groaned.

“What are you doing in my room Joe”

“You’re coming with us on a small vacation,” I heard Kevin say.

“Aren't you so excited?” Nick said with enthusiasm.

“Come on, come on, get up, get up, get up,” Joe repeated as he ripped my blanket off and Nick pulled me up.

“Your mom is…I don’t know really but Anna told us that she pretty much is in charge and she thinks it’s a great idea” he said as Kevin and Joe began to pack clothes for me in a suitcase.

“Where are we going anyway?” I asked with my eyes still half closed. “The Bahamas,” he replied and my eyes shot open.

“No way! Seriously?” I asked and he just nodded with a smile. “What are we waiting for then?!”

“You! Go shower and get ready, we’re leaving in a hour,” he said and I immediately grabbed some clothes, a towel and ran into my bathroom.

I started to shower as I sang lightly as I thought about this new song I’ve been working on.

My POV

I was about to walk out of Rachael’s room with her suit case full of clothes in my hand but then I heard faint singing so I pressed my ear up against the bathroom door and it was her. She was singing Please Be Mine. I smiled at the thought…it was her song after all…but it reminded me of when I sang that song for her…everything was so perfect when we were younger…but then it kind of hurt to reminisce, because of how it all ended…I wont let it end like that ever again… maybe we can get what we had back. It’s a possibility right? I decided it was wrong of me to just be standing there, while she showered, so I picked her bag back up and walked downstairs to Joe and Kevin.

“Mom, dad, Frankie and Big Rob are in the car but Frankie’s asleep so there’s no rush,” Kevin said and I just nodded absentmindedly. But then they both continued to smirk at me.

“What?” I snapped.

“So this is a perfect opportunity to hang out with Rachael,” Joe hinted.

“Yea…that’s why she’s coming,” I replied.

“Are you going to do anything?” Kevin asked.

“About what?”

“About Rachael!” they both exclaimed.

“What about her?” I spat.

“Nick, this is a perfect chance to get back what you had with Rachael,” Joe said like I was stupid.

“I cant…” They were about to protest but I interrupted. “Look, I know you guys care but I just have to do this alone, things are complicated…and they’re finally starting to calm down a little, we’re on really good terms right now and I don’t want to risk anything just because I still like her”

“So you do still like her,” Joe accused and I was about to object.

“Ready to go?” Rachael sang as she skipped down the stairs. “Lets go,” she added and she was about to take her suitcase from me but I stopped her and took it myself.

She knew me too well to refuse so she just put her hands up in defense and stepped back and I was mesmerized by her eyes.

“Okay…lets hit the road!” Joe cheered as him and Kevin marched out.

“Anna is going to meet us at the Bahamas air port,” I said slowly, doing my best to get my words out.

“Great! Lets hit the road,” she said happily and I couldn’t help but just smile at her. I haven’t really seen her so happy in such a long time…it was refreshing.

I heard snickering and laughing while I had my eyes shut. I was asleep on the plane heading to the Bahamas. I opened my eyes and saw Kevin smirking as he was reading a magazine and Joe and Rachael were doing their best to not laugh…but failing miserably. Then I noticed a marker in Joe’s hand so I whipped out a mirror and saw they drew on my face.

“Joe!” I yelled.

“Hey, it was her idea”

“What? You sold me out?! That is so not cool Joe,” she said and crossed her arms across her chest but I just laughed.

“You’re both idiots.,” I said as I rolled my eyes at them and walked to the bathroom.

I washed it off and walked back to all of them where Joe was throwing spit balls at Rachael. “Ew Joe, stop it,” Then he shot one but it missed her and hit Kevin. “Joe!” he yelled.

“Okay kids, settle down…we’re here,” dad said and we all looked out a window on one side as we looked down at the islands.

Rachael was right next to me so it was hard to concentrate on the view when her scent…stop it! We’re just friends…we cant be anything more.

“We’ve been here for not even a half hour yet and I already love this place,” Rachael cooed as we both got to the room first.

We were sharing a room together with Kevin and Joe. Anna got her own room and mom and dad were sharing a room with Frankie. She walked in, twirled in a circle and then walked to the sliding door in the back as I walked in with our bags.

“Nick, come check this out,” she said and I set our stuff down, then went over to her.

She opened the door and we stepped out onto the small deck and I followed. We starred at the perfect view of the beach and the water made waves in perfect synchronization and the wind was blowing slightly.

“It’s beautiful,” she murmured.

“Yea…” I stopped myself before I said anything else.

“This is our room?” Kev asked and we both turned to see him and Joe come in.

“Sweet…I call this bed!” he claimed and jumped on one of the four.

“Hey! That’s my bed!” Rea complained as she ran back in and pushed him off.

A few minutes went by of them fighting over the bed but Joe won once she fell to the ground and they both started laughing non stop.

Mom, dad, Anna and Frankie came by to tell us we should go out and check out the beach so we agreed and one by one, used our bathroom to change into our bathing suits. Rea was last and I was putting my shirt and my shorts into my suit case when I heard the bathroom door open. So I looked up to acknowledge her and I was so close to just going back to what I was doing…but I stopped in my place and just stared at her. She was in a bikini…and it’s not like I haven’t seen her in one before…but this time was different. I watched as she glided over to her suitcase on her bed, so delicately. I hadn’t noticed I was just staring until both Joe and Kevin hit me on the back of my head and I snapped out of my daze.

“Ready to go?” my voice cracked and I cleared it.

“Yep,” she giggled. “Lets go,” she added as she ran toward me, grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the room as Joe and Kevin followed.

We got to the beach and slowed down a bit as both Rea and I looked out to the ocean…and I could pretty much tell what she was thinking. But then the moment was ruined by Joe running, picking Rea up and throwing her into the shallow part of the water. He knows very well she isn’t a big fan of the deep part of the water so he wouldn’t even think about trying. Kevin and I caught up to them and we just started splashing around and whatnot. After that, when the adults came over with Frankie, Frankie came with us while they talked and laid on the sand. Frankie had a Frisbee so that’s what we started playing with. We had a routine going…Joe to Kev, Kev to me, me to Rea and Rea to Frankie…then we start it all over. But when Joe threw it to Kev, he wasn’t looking so it hit him in the stomach and he grunted as he bent over and we all ran over to him.

“Where was your head Kev?” I asked.

But then we saw a girl, Kevin’s age, who was giggling with a friend of hers. He didn’t reply but he just stared at the girl and Joe, Rea and I looked at each other, then we smirked and looked back at Kevin.

“Teenagers are weird,” Frankie sighed and headed back to the adults.

"Hey that's the girl i saw this morning at our hotel" Joe said.

"The one that shut you down when you tried hitting on her?" Rea smirked. He glared at her but then looked back at kev.

“Kevin’s got a crush,” Joe sang.

“Not just any crush…” I started.

“An awesome, amazing, kind of crush,” Rea finished and we all laughed…except Kevin.

“Ha. Ha. You’re all hilarious,” he spat.

“Go talk to her,” Rea urged.

“I cant just…go talk to her,” he said and blushed furiously.

“You’re Kevin friggin Jonas, of course you can,” she said as she put her hands on her hips and I held back a laugh.

“Look, her friend’s leaving, now’s the perfect chance,” Joe said and we saw her friend going in a different direction.

“Yea come on Kev, go get her” I added and he just glared at me and it was like I could read his mind as he thought, you shouldn’t be talking. So I just held my head down slightly.

“Fine, I’ll go talk to her for you” Rea said and she ran off before Kevin could stop her.

He turned toward us and kept his head low. “What’s happening?” he hissed.

Joe and I both looked over his shoulder. “They’re just…laughing,” I said.

“Laughing? Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” he asked as he popped his head back up.

“Hmm not sure…I really don’t get why girls laugh and giggle so much…what can really be so funny?” Joe said…but that one I couldn’t argue with. He had a point.

Kevin turned his head slightly so he could see. “She’s bringing her over here,” he hissed and snapped his head back around.

“Maybe…they just seem like they’re coming over here,” I lied.

“Nope, they’re coming over here,” Joe said with a huge smile on his face.

“Hey guys…this is Danielle,” Rea said and Joe and I were just smiling big…but Rea had the same expression.

“Danielle, meet Nick...you've already met Joe...and…” she paused as she got to Kevin’s side and spun him around. “Kevin,” she finished.

As soon as Kevin’s eyes met Danielle’s we could all tell he was in such a daze and he was somewhere on cloud 9.

“It’s really nice to meet you all,” she said politely but her eyes landed on Kevin and lingered.

“I think you and Kevin here would definitely have a lot in common,” Rea said and she elbowed Kevin in the side so he would snap out of it.

Kevin believed in love at first sight…so I could only imagine what he was thinking. Joe disappeared somewhere with Frankie and Rachael wanted to “spy” on Kevin and Danielle just to see how things were going…and I couldn’t say no.

“Kevin and Danielle definitely make an awesome couple,” she said as she took another lick of her ice cream.

I checked my blood sugar before we got some and it was good for me to have some too. “She seems like a really nice girl…Kevin deserves a girl like her”

“Why do you act so much older than your age? Are you sure you’re just 14?”

“Hey you don’t act your age either,” I countered.

“Well you’re a boy, girls mature faster and easier than boys,” she said and held her head high and I laughed.

“Well you of all people should know I’m not like all the others…does Eric act his age?” I asked timidly, avoiding her eyes.

“No…he acts much older…but he has his moments I suppose”

“He treats you right?” I questioned.

“Yes…he really does,” she replied.

“Good…because if he didn’t, then Joe, Kevin and I would have to teach him a lesson or two,” I tried to joke lightly and she laughed half-heartedly. “Does he know you’re here?”

“Umm no he doesn’t…I don’t think he does…it’s not really important, he’s been looking for a job lately and he doesn’t have to know everything I do,” she said with a small smile.

Then she tilted her head to the side, which got me mesmerized. “Does Miley know I’m here?” she shot back with a playful smile.

“I don’t know…did you tell her?”

“I don’t think I did, since you kind of just came and kidnapped me”

“Did not, you came willingly…but anyway, both Miley and Eric don’t know we’re here”

“I’m sure they’ll find out though, the paparazzi will be all over it…I can see it now, ’Nick Jonas and Rachael Lewis running away to exotic islands together,” she said and I couldn’t help but laugh.

“You’re probably right,” I agreed and we both just laughed.

"I just hope that the paparazzi leave Kev and Dani alone for the time being and give them some time alone…I really do think they can have a long lasting relationship,” she said and we both just continued to stare at the couple.

Kevin said something and Danielle began to laugh…Rachael was right about them though. They would make a great couple.

Who knew Rachael would be the reason why Kev and Dani got together in the first place? Not me.
