Green Eyes

25

I chuckled, and quickly bid goodbye to Liam before hanging up the phone. For the past three hours I had been talking to him, something I missed since I hadn’t been able to go to school lately. Of course, he had a lot of questions about Maddy which I had trouble answering, but other than that I found that we always had something to talk about.

Zacky wasn’t pleased to say the least, and even though he thought he was being sneaky I knew he was outside the door eavesdropping on our conversation. What did he think I would do? Sure Liam still showed a lot of interest in me, but I didn’t feel any of that for him. My love was for Zacky, he knew that, didn’t he?

Sighing, I threw my phone on the bed and walked over to the door. As soon as I started walking I heard the sounds of what I assumed to be Zacky scrambling to get away, so I ran forwards and ripped the door open.

‘Ha!’ I exclaimed, pointing my finger at a guilty looking Zacky. Zacky put on an innocent face and raised an eyebrow at me.

‘What?’ he asked, though the guilt was still in his eyes.

I smirked. ‘Eavesdropping were we?’

Zacky opened his mouth, looking shocked. ‘No!’

The door to the bathroom opened and Brian strolled out, glancing at us casually. ‘Liar.’

Zacky blushed and I laughed. ‘Thanks Brian.’ I turned to face Zacky, raising my eyebrow. ‘Got a problem with Liam do we?’

Zacky scowled. ‘I don’t like him. It’s too obvious he’s in love with you. Does he even know you have a boyfriend?’

I smiled and walked over to him, reaching up to put my arm around his shoulder. ‘Of course he does. If you knew how to eavesdrop properly you would have heard us talking about it.’

Zacky smiled and placed a kiss on my nose, causing me to smile back. ‘I just don’t want him to try to steal you away from me.’

I laughed and shook my head. ‘Hey, if we can stop a pack full of vampires from stealing me away, we can stop Liam.’

He laughed and pecked me on the lips, before pulling away and smiling. I grabbed his hand and pulled him downstairs, where the others were sitting.

When we got there, Jimmy bounded over to me and picked me up in his arms. ‘Kayla Bear!’ he exclaimed, spinning me in circles.

I laughed and he put me down, grabbing my hand instead. He pulled me over, skipping and swinging our hands, making me laugh again at his energy. ‘Can we go to the park Kayla? Can we? Can we pwease?’

I laughed again and sighed dramatically. ‘Fine. I guess we can go to the park.’

Jimmy let go of my hand to pound his fist in the air, before walking over to the others and forcing them up. ‘We’re going to the park!’ he exclaimed, a wacky grin on his face.

Matt sighed and shook his head in amusement. ‘Sometimes I wonder why we keep him.’

All of us, including Maddy, arrived at the park about 10 minutes later. I had noticed that lately Maddy was a lot quieter and had a sad look about her, and although I tried to ask her what was wrong she would just wave me off. The guys had told me that it was common among newborn vampires to go through a bit of a depression, but I hated seeing her that way. It made me wonder whether we’d made the right choice by making her a vampire.

As soon as I got out of the car Jimmy began to drag me over to the playground, acting like an excited kid. We had taken turns going down the slide when I noticed Jimmy’s attention was somewhere else. I looked over and saw a woman walking with a pram into the park, slowly taking a seat by the pond. Raising my eyebrow, I turned to look at Jimmy, only to see that his attention was now on the rest of the group.

We headed over to them and I saw that they were all looking at Jimmy with amused expressions. Kaylee walked up to Jimmy and slapped him across the face, while everyone else let out the laughter they had obviously been holding in. Even Maddy laughed, while I looked around in confusion, hoping for an answer.

Jimmy was looking at his feet in embarrassment, an emotion I had never seen him bear. Matt was practically on the floor in laughter while Brian and Zacky were slapping Jimmy on the back, laughing at him. ‘Good job mate.’

Johnny was the only one looking slightly miserable, faking a laugh occasionally when the others would look at him. Zacky’s eyes met mine and I frowned at him. ‘What’s going on?’

Matt snorted and slapped Jimmy on the back. ‘Jimbo here has found his soulmate.’

At this everyone sent each other a look before cracking up laughing. Jimmy blushed and shook his head rapidly. ‘No I haven’t!’

Brian laughed harder and looked at Jimmy in sympathy. ‘Sorry mate, but it’s kind of obvious.’

I grinned and walked over to Jimmy, giving him a hug. ‘That’s great Jimmy!’

I turned to look at the others, glaring at them. ‘Why are you laughing? It’s a good thing.’

The others glanced at each other quickly before giggling again. ‘We’ll let him tell you that.’

I frowned and turned to look at Jimmy, smiling. ‘Who is it? Is she here?’

Jimmy looked over his shoulder, before looking at the ground. I looked at where his gaze was previously, my eyes settling on the figure of the woman with the pram. I smiled. ‘Her? I knew you were looking at her! C’mon, I’ll introduce you.’

Jimmy’s eyes opened in shock and he shook his head, while the others all collapsed in laughter, holding onto each other for support. I glared at them quickly before grabbing a struggling Jimmy and pulling him over to the lady.

The lady looked up at us and smiled, and I dragged Jimmy in front of me. ‘Hi I’m Kayla and this is my friend Jimmy.’

She smiled and Jimmy smiled back weakly, but I noticed that it wasn’t very convincing. Raising my eyebrow, I looked at Jimmy, to see him looking intently and lovingly at something behind me. Smiling, I followed his gaze, only to see that it was focused on something that I hadn’t expected.

Opening my mouth in shock, I turned to look at Jimmy, who looked guiltily at the floor. I turned to smile politely at the lady before I dragged Jimmy away, hearing the others laughter in the distance.

Once we were far enough away I turned and slapped Jimmy repeatedly on the arm. ‘A baby? Jimmy how could you? That’s disgusting!’

The others, obviously hearing our conversation, came over to join us, still laughing. Brian grinned at me. ‘Figure it out did you?’

Still in shock, I nodded slowly, before turning around to slap Jimmy on the arm again. ‘Jimmy! She’s not even 6 months old yet! That’s sick!’

Jimmy frowned, and looked at me, eyes full of hurt. ‘Kayla I can’t help it. I don’t get to choose. Plus, it’s not like I want to have sex with her or anything. That’s disgusting! I just care about her, ok?’

Shaking my head, I walked over to Jimmy and hugged him. ‘Fine. Good luck getting past the mother though. She seemed to like the looks of you. Wait until she figures out it’s her daughter you’re after.’

The others cracked up laughing and Jimmy looked at me in shock. ‘Really?’

Giggling, I nodded, pointing over to where she was sitting, staring at Jimmy. When she met his eyes she smiled and blushed, giving a small wave. All of us but Jimmy collapsed into fits of laughter while he looked down, embarrassed. I ran over to him and wrapped my arms around him. ‘Aww Jimbo it’s ok! We still love you!’

He smiled and hugged me back, and I looked over his shoulder to see the lady glaring daggers at me. I buried my head in his chest, trying to stop my laughter. Jeez, trust Jimmy to not only fall in love with a baby but to also create himself a complicated love triangle.
