That Should Be Me

“I’ll stay as long as I can” I reassured her.

“Kay” she said as I put on my boxers and slipped under the covers with her.

I lightly stroked her hair and I watched her fall asleep. Maybe a half an hour later or less I quietly got out of her bed and got dressed.

I noticed an ‘expo marker’ sitting on her dresser so I grabbed it and I walked inside her bathroom. I took the lid off the marker and on the mirror I wrote ‘I love you, beautiful. Don’t ever forget that. Xoxo Love always Nick’ I smiled and walked back into her room and kissed her cheek and left her house.

I walked through the door of my house and I went straight to my room, I decided I was going to take a quick shower, but then I changed my mind; I was too tired and besides I just had sex with D, I guess it wouldn’t be ‘too’ bad if I’d let that linger on me. I took off my shirt and jeans and got in bed falling asleep instantly.

I woke up the next morning to the smell of bacon and eggs. I got out of bed and went downstairs to see my brothers and Kelsey in the kitchen.

“Morning Nick!” Joe and Kevin said together

“Morning” I said

“Good morning, baby” Kelsey said and she kissed me

“Nick… you look really sexy but you smell.” She said

“Uh thanks” I said with a small laugh.

“Want breakfast?” she asked me

“Uh nah I’ll pass…. I’m gonna go shower then go o-” Kelsey cut me off mid sentence.

“Ok I was thinking, you and I could maybe hang out today just you and…”

I started to speak “Uh actually I had plans… already.” I said

"Oh, what plans?” She asked me

“D and I are hanging out” I said

“Oh? Can I come?” She asked me

“Can you come?” I said and Joe looked at me weird, I think he knew about D and I.

“Sure” I said without thinking.

“Cool, I’ll get ready” she said and we both went upstairs

We met D at ‘Red Robin’

“Hey D!” I said as I pulled her into a hug

“Hey Nick” she said “Uh hey Kelsey”

“Hi” Kelsey said back.

D sat in the booth and Kelsey and I sat across from her, me being exactly across from her. After we ordered our food I immediately started a game of ‘footsies’ with D. “So D, how did you and Nick become best friends?” Kelsey asked D.

“Uh actually Nick and I have know each other our entire lives, we were neighbors for quite sometime when we were little and that’s how it happened.” She said and I smiled.

“Oh cool” Kelsey said

“Very” D said back. We stood quiet until our food came.

“So Kelsey, you have one heck of a boyfriend here” D said while smiling at me

“Mhmm, he is pretty great.” She said

“Yeah he is.” D said with a smile

“You’re pretty great yourself D…” I said and Kelsey scoffed

“You both are…” I said.

We soon finished and we all walked outside, I stood pretty close to D and she and I were having a conversation, when Kelsey grabbed my hand and kissed me. I felt D’s body move away from mine and I pulled away. I looked at D and she gave me a soft smile

We all went down to the beach and I decided to tackle D into the water “Nick!” she squealed, I laughed

“What?” I said and I picked her up

“Nick! Put me down!” she said while laughing, I put her down and she wrapped me in a hug, her arms were around my neck and my arms were around her waist.

“If you want to stop flirting with my boyfriend, that’d be great” We heard Kelsey say and D pulled away from me

“Kelsey I’m not flirti-” D began but Kelsey cut her off

“It’s obvious you like him, bitch” she said

“Kelse c’mon we’re just having a little fun, Chill.” I said

“And you can have fun Nick, just not with sluts.” She said

“Kelsey, What the hell?” I said

“I wasn’t even going to bring you today, so just shut up” I said

Kelsey looked at me, she looked a little hurt. I was just so confused. I mean here standing next to me was this girl I was completely in love with and I’ve been in love with her for over 2 years. Then there was another girl, who I loved but I wasn’t in love with.
