Keep It Silent

Dance With Me

"Hurry up, Sydney!" I cried out, as I quickly adjusted the strap of my stilettos. She was about a feet away from me, and she looked apathetic.

"Don't you know how uncomfortable these shoes are?" She complained, as she planted her feet firmly on the ground.

I groan, and rush towards her. "Just hurry up, please? I don't want to be late!" I snap at her, I run my fingers through my hair.

She rolled her eyes, at me and puts her hands on her hips. "Weren't you the person just three days ago, telling me that being fashionably late is good?" She told me, as she raised her eyebrows.

Okay, she got me there. I just looked away, and crossed my arms over my chest.

"Let's just go, please." She said, as she grabbed my arm, and headed towards the Main Hall.

There were a lot of students gathered around the entrance door. They were all dressed up, and psyched out about the new school year. People kept buzzing about their summer vacations. I had wished that I were with them, talking. But, of course. What would I expect?

I was a newcomer. Not that known, and popular. I knew this, because of watching a lot of re-runs of Gossip Girl, and FRIENDS. Or maybe just the movie, Mean Girls.

I tried to think of how me and Sydney were going to get past the long line of people that waited to get their tickets.

"We have to line up just to get in? Are they crazy? This isn't even the prom yet! I wonder if they'd charge twice as much on that day." Sydney ranted, as she pouts her lips, and crossed her arms over her chest. She pulls on this look whenever she's annoyed as hell. I knew that she wouldn't calm down for a while, so I decided to go around.

As I started to walk, I tiptoed up to look for Sydney. It wouldn't be that hard to find her. I mean, she was tall, about a full five inches taller than me. That is one reason why I always wear stilettos. She has wavy dark chocolate brown hair, that always appears shiny under the sun nor moon. She has features that I wished I had. Her piercing hazel brown eyes, and rosy cheeks. She looked like she was shining under the moonlit sky. Her face was glowing, and her slim figure made her seem like a person out of a magazine.

I smirk, and tell myself that if I would have those features of hers, I would be a model myself.

I shook my head, and turned around. As I did, I accidentally bumped into someone-- a cute someone.

He cusses under his breath, and looks towards me. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't see you there."

I frown. Was this supposed to be an insult?

As I look up at his pale blue eyes, I feel my heart melt. His golden hair, his tall and muscular figure, made him look like an Abercrombie & Fitch model. He looked like he would be a great partner for Sydney. They would look great together.

"N-no, it's alright." I managed to tell him. And all of a sudden, I start to giggle. I quickly bit my lower lip to stop myself. But I just couldn't help it. I was nervous around this guy. Not the way I usually am to other hot guys like him.

"Alright, if you say--"

"Nick!" Someone called out. We both turn around to face the person who had called him. And to my surprise, it was Jake. From my perspective, he looked a little bit like the guy beside me. At whom, I am guessing is named Nick.

"Nick, uh, the guys are--" He stopped mid sentence, as he turns to look at me. A smile slowly formed on his face, which slowly reacher his eyes.

"So, I'm guessing you guys know each other?" Nick asked, as he crossed his arms over his chest, with a smirk on his face.

"No." I immediately said, as my heart started to beat even faster.

"Well, not technically." Jake said, with a smirk. He snuck a glance at my direction, and immediately looked away.

"Right," Nick said as he rolled his eyes. He didn't sound too conceived by what we had just said.

"Well, I'm going to leave you two love birds alone now." He said to Jake, giving him a wink.

I pouted, and thought that I was just about to meet someone new, and here comes hell boy, ruining everything.

"Why the long face?" Jake whispered into my ear, as he slightly nudged me in the stomach. Hearing his voice so close to my ear made me jump in surprise.

"Nothing," I murmured as I looked away. I didn't want him to see me blushing.

"Okay, well, then would you like to go inside?" He offered, with his other arm extended out.

"Wait, what about the tickets?" I asked curiously, as I raised my eyebrows.

He shook his head, and magically took out a pair of tickets from behind my ear. My eyes widened in shock.

I honestly admit, I have seen this trick being performed tons of times, but I never got over the fact that it was honestly amazing.

"Oh, uh... well..." I couldn't really say no to him, because I didn't want to turn down his offer. First of all, it would offend him, another thing was that the line was way too long for me.

I tiptoed once more to see whether or not Sydney was around somewhere. I couldn't find her in the throngs of people lined up out here. I thought that maybe she had left and found her way in, or decided to go home and thought that this was completely useless.

I turned to Jake and smiled. "Alright, let's go." How bad could this night turn out to be?

I took his hand, and together we walk towards the entrance doors. Or, at least for tonight, the entrance gates.

As we both go in, I immediately spot the dangling gemstones that reflect light down unto the marble floor. Up on the stage, a banner was hung, saying, 'Welcome Back Your Royal Highnesses'. It felt like a castle. So, I guessed that this year's theme was the medieval times. The only thing was that we weren't all dressed with the proper attires to match the ceremony's theme.

"This way, my lady," Jake said, as he motioned for me to follow him. An immediate reaction of mine is to laugh childishly. I quickly trailed behind him, as he headed towards a long table, in which Nick is seated in. Seeing Nick there, my feet started to wobble, and my heart did these cartwheels beneath my rib cage.

We both took our seats, and settled in. He leaned in, and whispered into my ear, "Do you like the castle?"

I nod at him, and he smiled back. "It was sort of my idea."

Nick apparently overheard, this and laughed. "You? This was your idea?" Everybody else in the table started to laugh.

"Nice one." One other guy commented.

I felt as if I needed to defend him. Because he had invited me here. And so, I cleared my throat, and rolled my eyes.

"And so?" I snapped at them. "This was a wonderful idea. In fact, it's amazing. I mean, it would be boring if the theme were just your average type of dance, right?"

Suddenly, the whole table was silenced. And Jake looked embarrassed. I felt like exploding. I hadn't meant to embarrass both of us, but apparently, I just had.

~

About an hour has passed by, we had already finished eating our food, and we now stood on the middle of the Hall.

The loud music beating, and echoing out of the speakers.

Jake walked up to me with a couple of drinks, and handed me one of them.

"Thanks", I murmured, as I took a sip from the drink he gave me. He soon left, to join his friends on the other edge of the room.

I slumped down unto one of the chairs, and sighed. This wasn't exactly the type of dance I was expecting. I expected it to be a lot more fun, instead of a boring one.

"Hey, there." Nick sat to the chair next to me. He looked amazingly good under the lighting of this room. I know that I hadn't known him as long, but he had this huge impact on me.

I gave him a slight nod, and closed my eyes.

He chuckled, and sat up straight.

"What?" I quickly asked, feeling the sense of worry build up inside of me. "Is there something on my face?"

He shook his head, and laughed. "Are you kidding me? The only thing there is your amazing and breath-taking beauty." He said, as he looked away.

I couldn't help but blush, and look away too. My heart started to well up inside of me, and I felt as if I were the happiest person alive. Well, the third happiest person alive. But, still. I felt great on the inside. My heart was pounding loudly, and my face was as red as a tomato.

Awkward silence soon overtook our small conversation.

I didn't know what to tell him. Was I supposed to say, 'Thank You'? Or was I supposed to give him back a compliment?

He cleared his throat, and my eyes quickly turned to stare at him. Or, to be more descriptive, I started to gape at him.

"Would you want to dance?" He asked, as he offered up his hand towards me.

I couldn't help but smile, and nod at him. I took his hand, and he leads me towards the dance floor. In the mid-center.

I carefully placed my hand on his shoulder, and one on his waist. And he does the same. My heart kept beating loudly beneath my chest. I could hear my heartbeat louder than the music.

And for the first five minutes we start to sway together with the music. He just kept smiling at me, and I just kept blushing.

Right before the song ends, I let go of his hand, and turn around. But, just as I was about to leave, he grabs my hand, and pulls me in for a kiss. A light kiss on the lips. A five second kiss that makes my heart beat even louder. My eyes widened, as I saw Sydney across the room, glaring at me.

I quickly pull away, and whisper into his ear, "I'm sorry. I have to go."

I ran away from him, standing there in the middle of the room, looking like an idiot.

I really do think that Sydney is going to kill me. For what reason, I don't know. I just kept running, because I knew that she would really kill me. I mean that literally. Well, she wouldn't kill me, but I know that she would hate me.

At least something good happened tonight. Out of everything.
