Fly With Me

The Date

“Are you excited?” Ash asked me over the phone with enthusiasm Saturday afternoon.

Was I excited? Of course I was, but I think the more appropriate word would be ‘nervous’. Because I was way more nervous then I was excited. I mean, I was going to be going on a date with Joe. Just the thought of it is nerve wrecking.

I smiled and sat on the bed, “Yeah, I am,” I said as I leaned back, “I’ve got butterflies.”

She laughed, “I bet, did you tell him about your parents and stuff?” she asked curiously, “Or are you still being stupid about it?”

“I told him,” I told her honestly, “And you were right, he was extremely nice about it.”

Here comes the ‘I told you so’. She always does it when she’s right.

“I told you!” she said in that ‘in your face’ tone, “What did he say when you told him?”

“That I was strong and that I should be proud of myself,” I said to her as a smile crept up on my face, “He was just really sweet.”

“Sounds like someone got bit by the ‘Love bug’,” she said as she giggled, “So, what time is your date?”

“It’s at 7,” I said smiling, “Dude, I don’t know what to wear, and you’re not here to be my side kick stylist.”

She laughed, “True,” she said, “Alright, well where are you going?”

“That’s a good question,” I said to her, “Probably just dinner and a movie, I don’t think it’s going to be anything extravagant.”

Just then Joe’s head popped in the door, “You’re not getting ready!” he said walking in with a shocked look on his face, “Are you talking to Ashley?” I nodded my head hesitantly with a smile, “Let me talk to her!”

He grabbed the phone for me as I laughed, “Sure just interrupt why don’t you,” I said jokingly as he sat next to me.

“You’re interfering with my date she should be getting ready right now, missy,” he said into the phone as he placed his arm around my shoulder, “…it’s in an hour and half…I don’t need to ask your permission…to dinner, then…wait, why am I telling you this?...Well, I’m sure she’ll tell you about it later…I don’t know yet, sheesh, nosey…Goodbye, Ashley.” Then he ended the phone call with a grin.

“Why are you smiling?” I asked him curiously.

“Because I have a hot date tonight,” he said winking at me making me laugh.

“Oh really, because I heard your so-called ‘hot date’ was coming down with a cold,” I said as I began to fake a cough.

He frowned and put his hand on my forehead, “You don’t have a fever,” he said as he studied my face and then I smiled at him, “Oh, you’re just joking.” His frown turned into a beautiful smile.

I nodded with a laugh, “Yeah, so, what would you have done if I stood you up?” I asked as I looked at him curiously.

“I would have cried like this,” he said, then hid his face in his hands and began to fake cry hysterically.

“Shhh!” I said as I began to laugh uncontrollably.

He continued his fake crying then he threw his body on the bed and began to have a fake tantrum. He was being so loud it was unbelievable. He looked just a two year old throwing a tantrum in a toy story.

“Joe! Shut up!” I said nudging him in between my laughs, “Someone’s going to hear you.”

Just then Denise walked through the door, “What on earth is going on in here?” she said and then looked at Joe, “Joseph! What are you doing?” Her hands were already on her hips.

Joe turned to look at his mom with a grin, “I’m just playing around, mommy,” he said to her.

Mommy? Did I hear that right? Awe, that’s really cute! He’s twenty years old and he still calls his mom ‘mommy’.

Denise couldn’t help but laugh, “Well, must you be so loud?” she asked him, “You sound ridiculous.”

“Thank you,” I said to her as we laughed together and she walked out, “You’re such a nut.”

He leaned back and grinned, “Yeah, but you love me,” he said confidently.

I rolled my eyes, “Sure, buddy,” I said as we laughed together.

“Anyway, we should start getting ready,” he said standing up and looking at me with a smile.

“I need to know where we are going,” I said standing up with him, “Because that way I know what to wear.”

“Just dress comfortably,” he said smiling at me, “No need to impress anyone.”

“But what if I want to impress you?” I asked him as I crossed my arms with a smile.

“Well, if that’s the case,” he said as he grinned at me, “Then I’m already impressed.”

My smile widened, “Alright, then,” I said to him and then shoved him slightly, “Get out so I can get ready.”

We laughed together as he walked out of the room.

Okay, what to wear? I went through my suitcase about three times before I decided on an outfit. A pair of white skinny jeans with a light blue halter top and my black flats is what my out fit was. I got dressed and examined my self in the mirror. I then began to straighten curl my hair and put on some light make up.

A few minutes after I was done getting dressed there was a knock on the guestroom door, I walked over and opened, “Your date is here to pick you up,” Nick said dully.

I made a face, “What?” I asked in a clueless tone.

Nick sighed, “Joe’s here to pick you up,” he said.

“But, he lives here, he never left,” I said looking at him.

“I know, he’s a retard,” Nick said throwing his hands up in frustration, “Just wait ‘til you see him downstairs.”

I laughed and grabbed my purse, “Okay,” I said as I walked out of the room, “So, do I just walk downstairs?”

Nick nodded, “I don’t know what you see in my brother,” he said laughing and going back into his room.

I smiled and walked down the stairs and I looked around for Joe, but he was no where in sight.

Just then the door bell rang, “It’s for you,” Kevin said walking towards me.

I scrunched up my face, “What?” I asked in a clueless tone.

Kevin simply laughed, “Just answer it,” he said to me, “You’ll see.”

“Okay…” I said awkwardly as I walked to the door and opened it.

Joe was standing there with flowers in his hand and a huge grin, “Hi, I’m here to pick you up for our date!” he said enthusiastically as our eyes connected, “You look beautiful.”

I couldn’t help but laugh, “Thank you,” I said to him, “You’re nuts, Joe, you live here!”

He grinned, “I know, but it had to be a proper date,” he said handing me the flowers, “These are for you.”

I grinned and took them, “Thanks,” I said taking them and putting them on the table near the door, “So, what now?”

He smiled and took my hand, “Now, you come with me,” he said guiding me to his car and I followed him with a huge grin on my face.

We pulled into a restaurant about fifteen minutes later, Joe got out and walked to my side to open my door, “My lady,” he said in another terrible English accent.

I couldn't help but laughed as I grabbed his hand and stepped out of his car, “You can stop with that accent,” I said to him as he shut the door, “You sound ridiculous.”

He smiled at me, “Fine, normal mode now,” he said as we both giggled and then his face dropped, “We’ve got company.”

I turned to see about six or seven people, at a distance, with cameras in their hand and they were focusing on us, then I turned back to Joe quickly, “Are we in trouble?” I asked nervously.

He laughed, grabbed my hand and guided me inside, “No, we’re not, just pretend like they’re not there,” he said to me, “That’s what I do.”

“I don’t know how you do it,” I said to Joe once we were seated at a table and after we had ordered, “It’s insane.”

He simply shrugged, “I got used to it,” he said and then smiled, “So, be prepared to be the envy of every teenage girl.”

I laughed, “I can’t wait,” I said in a sarcastic tone, “I can’t believe I’m on a date with you though.”

He grinned, “Why not?” he asked as he grabbed my hand and began to play with my fingers.

I shrugged, “I don’t know, it’s just too surreal,” I said to him honestly as he laughed, “It’s not funny.”

“Yeah, it is,” he said in between laughs, “But if it helps it’s pretty surreal for me too.”

I made a face, “How is it surreal for you?” I asked him curiously.

“I never thought I would meet a girl as great as you,” he said to me as he smiled.

“Oh, please,” I said as I laughed and rolled my eyes, “I’m not that great.”

“Modesty is just so hard to find,” he said to me.

I raised an eyebrow, “Quoting your own songs,” I said to him with a smile, “Smooth move, wasn’t that song about Taylor anyway?”

Joe cringed, “Let’s not talk about that,” he said with no emotion, “Let’s talk about…how pretty you are.”

The rest of dinner was great, he made me smile the entire time, “Alright, now it’s time for the movie,” he said as we walked out of the restaurant, hand in hand, and once again we were attacked by a swarm of photographers.

‘”Who’s the new girl Joe?” One asked as he snapped a photo.

“Have you replaced Camilla?” Another asked as they shot a photo as well.

“Let’s just say I found someone much much much better,” Joe said as he shot me a smile and opened his car door for me.

I smiled at him and got in, once he made his way around the car and inside, I laughed, “Why did you have to go and say that?” I asked him curiously.

“It’s true,” he said smiling at me as we drove off.

I couldn’t help but smile, “So, what movie are we going to see?” I asked him, “Hopefully it’s nothing scary, I get scared easily.”

He grinned, “Jennifer’s body,” he said, “And if you get scared you can hold my hand…or you can hold it anyway.”

I smiled at him, “Okay, fine, and besides Megan Fox is hot,” I said to him.

He made a face at me, “She’s a girl,” he said, “When I saw her at the VMA’s back in 08 she looked really mean.”

I laughed, “It’s not her fault she has a cold face,” I said to him.

We made it to the theatre and we were in line, “People are starring,” I said to him in a whisper.

He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me against him, “Don’t worry about it,” he said as he pressed his lips against my cheek, “You’re going to have to get used to the unwanted attention.”

“That’s going to be very hard,” I said to him with a laugh.

After the movie, Joe and I walked out of the movie theatre in complete shock, “I did not know there was going to be a scene like that,” he said obviously referring to the girl on girl scene.

I laughed, “It was kind of hot,” I said as he grabbed my hand.

He laughed, “Are you into chicks too or what?” he asked as we walked towards his car.

I shook my head, “Nope,” I said to him honestly.

“If my mom asks there wasn’t a scene like that in the movie,” he said as opened the door for me, “She would kill me if she knew I went to see that.”

“I know, can you just imagine what she would say?” I asked him once he was in the car.

“I don’t even want to imagine,” he said with a laugh as he pulled out of the parking lot.

We reached the house awhile later, got out, and went inside, “I had an awesome time tonight,” I said to him truthfully as we walked up the stairs.

“I did, too,” he said smiling at me as he played with my fingers, “Am I second date material?”

I grinned, “Most definitely,” I said to him as he began to lean in, “I don’t kiss on the first date, Joe.”

He stopped and then placed a lose strand of hair behind my ear, “Well, it’s a good thing that I don’t play by the rules then,” he said with a grin then he bent down and pressed his lips against mine.

I didn’t waste anytime; I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him back.

“You owe me twenty bucks, Kevin!” I heard and that made Joe and I jump apart to see Nick standing there with a content grin on his face.

“Jesus, Nick, what were you doing? Spying on me?” Joe said looking at him with his hands on his hips.

Nick shrugged, “Pretty much, I had to know if I won the bet,” he said coolly.

“What bet?” I asked curiously as Kevin walked out of his room.

“Oh, Nick said you would kiss her upstairs and I said you would kiss her downstairs,” he said handing Nick twenty dollars.

“Can you guys just leave?” Joe said looking at his brothers, “Like now.”

They both laughed and headed to their room, “We made Nick twenty dollars richer,” I said trying to lighten the mood.

Joe smiled, “I’m sorry about that though, they are so nosey,” he said placing his hands on waist.

I smiled, “No worries,” I said to him, “So, I guess this is goodnight.”

He nodded, “Shall we try that kiss again?” he asked hopefully as he stepped towards me.

“I think that would be a good idea,” I said as he closed the gap in between us.

The kiss lasted for a good awhile, and then I pulled away, “Goodnight,” he said resting his forehead against mine, “I’ll see you in the morning.”

I nodded, “Goodnight,” I said to him quietly, I smiled at him and went into my room in the best mood that I have ever been in.
