Girl Next Door

Listening

Brian finished his cigarette and then tossed it to the ground. He stood up and stepped on the cigarette as he began making his way back into the cabin. Kylie sighed softly, as she slowly raised up to her feet and walked in behind him. He turned around and looked at her, and she couldn't help but to feel guilty. His eye really did look bad. She walked forward and brought her hand up and ran her thumb across the slowly fading black. He shuddered from the slight amount of pain that her hand on his eye caused.

"Sorry that I gave you a black eye." She said.

"Yeah, I didn't deserve it."

"Brian!"

"Kylie, I didn't do anything. If I cheated on you I'd be the first one to tell you that. I'm not the asshole everyone makes me out to be. I had spent the entire fucking day rearranging everything in the living room so we could have the perfect night together. I opened the door expecting to see you standing there, but it was Michelle instead. I--"

"Brian."

"Let me finish." He said, clamping his hand over her mouth to hush her.

"Her and I exchanged some not so nice words and she walked up the stairs to get what I assumed was her sweater. You showed up, and I was trying to apologize for not having everything prepared. I was hoping to have the lights turned down and some romantic shit playing in the background, but before I could explain Michelle walked down the stairs and opened her cock sucker."

She didn't say a word as he finished explaining everything. She had to admit that his story was adding up. She had saw the tea light candles lit, and she had saw that there was some sort of bed made on the floor of his living room. She swallowed hard, as he breathed in deeply and removed his hand from her mouth.

"Do you really think I'd be stupid enough to cheat on you when I know you're on your way over?" He asked. "No guy is that stupid!"

"Brian--"

"No, Ky. I'm going to make you believe me. I don't care what the hell I have to do." Brian sighed. "I didn't do anything, Kylie. I promise I didn't. I had big fucking plans for the night. I wanted everything to be---"

"Brian, okay." She nodded.

"I just need you to believe me."

"I do." She whispered and then sighed. "I guess, hell, I don't know what to believe."

He groaned and then brought his hands up and gripped onto pieces of his hair. He didn't know what to do or say. He shook his head as he walked over and sat down on the couch. What could he say to make her believe him?

"You swear that you didn't cheat?" She asked, sitting down next to him.

"I told you I didn't." He sighed.

"Brian."

"I'm not going to keep repeating myself Kylie. I've spent the last three days in hell. I've called you until your voice mail was full. I've searched every damn hotel in an hour distance of Huntington Beach. I've made Gena call you. I've postponed time in the studio. I love you, Kylie, but I really don't know what to do that will prove that to you."

She looked at him stunned at what he had just said. None of it mattered but three little words. She swallowed hard as she thought about what he had just admitted. She didn't know if he meant to say it, or if it had just rambled out.

"Brian."

"What?"

"You said you love me."

"Yeah." Brian nodded. "That's the big fucking surprise I had for that night. I was going to tell you how I felt about you, but that fucking went down the drain."

She swallowed hard. He had planned to tell her he loved her? She looked at him as he stared blankly at the wall in front of him. She could tell a thousand different emotions were probably running through his head right now.

She couldn't believe she had been so stupid. Why did she run away from her problems when she could have just sucked it up and talked to him, and fixed all of this days ago? She shook her head, and then felt some warm salty tears building in her eyes.

He looked over at her and noticed she was on the verge of tears. He burrowed his brows together as he watched a tear fall down her cheek. He sighed, as he turned towards her, and placed his hands on her cheeks. His thumb brushed away her stray tear as she sighed. She moved closer to him and eventually her head was on his chest. He sighed as he wrapped his arms around her and kissed the top of her head.

"I've been stupid, Bri." She whispered, her face buried in his chest, breathing in the familiar scent of his cologne and Marlboro's.

"No you haven't." He said, running his hand up and down her back.

"I didn't even listen." She murmured, burring her face even further in his chest.

He couldn't help but to smile as he tightened his grip around her. For some reason, he felt that things were okay between the two of them.

"I'm sorry for even letting her in, Kylie."

"Don't apologize." She sighed. "You really didn't do anything wrong, and I blacked your eye."

He laughed. "It's okay, babe."

She sighed, moving away from him and then looked up into his brown eyes. She frowned when she noticed the black eye again. She leaned forward and pressed her lips against it softly. He grinned as she pulled away.

"Now it's all better." He winked.

She laughed. "I really didn't think I hit you hard."

"You have a good right hook." He smirked.

She sighed. "So, are we. . ."

"We're fine." Brian said, leaning in and kissing her softly on the mouth. "It was just a big misunderstanding that we should have handled better as a couple."

She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him close to her.

"Have you been drinking a lot?" He whispered.

"Yes." She admitted. "I think I'm still hung over."

He frowned, "Baby, you shouldn't have drank."

"I know." She nodded. "It was stupid."

"How long did you rent the cabin for?" He asked.

"A week, so I have about four days left."

"You want some company?" He asked, a smirk on his face.

She giggled, and nodded her head before she crashed her lips against his. She still hadn't told him she felt the same way, and she decided to do that.

"Bri,"

"Yeah?" He asked, placing a kiss on the side of her mouth.

"I love you." She whispered.

He smiled and wrapped his arms around her as he pulled her against him. He kissed her forehead, and knew this was a turning point in their relationship. He was looking forward moving forward with her.
