Sleepless

That night I laid awake listening to Shellie’s deep breaths, I couldn’t sleep, felt restless. I needed some fresh air, so I silently slipped out of bed and crept down the stairs. Everything was still, it felt eerie, and I quickly opened the back door and walked out barefoot on our lawn. The grass was damp and it tickled my feet, moonlight bathed the trees and made everything looked silvery. I sat down and looked up at the twinkling stars, feeling the cold seeping into me, I shivered.
“Out for a midnight stroll I suppose?”
I gasped and turned around, there stood Jace in his boxers and t-shirt; he sat down next to me.
“Don’t you ever do that again ‘k?” I complained, “Scared the hell out of me.”
“Sorry.” He apologized.
“What are you doing out here anyway?” I asked.
“Mm, nothing” Jace answered simply.
“Right,” I said slightly annoyed with his lack of conversation, “I’m going off to bed then.”
“Ok.”
I trudged back upstairs, glancing out the window at Jace. He was watching the stars with a peaceful and content look on his face; I shook my head and smiled wondering what was on his mind.
