Just a Dream

Chapter 5

“Why the hell was she trying to run you over?” Brian asked, staring at Matt.

“No idea, but the courts are definitely going to hear about this.” Matt said, walking the rest of the way to his car.

“You need to get away from that woman until Matt.” Tiffany said, running up to him. “She’s going to end up killing either you or Lexie.”

“I’m not running from her.” Matt said simply.

“So you’re willing to put my sister, your future wife, in danger over your pride?” Ryan asked, stepping in front of Matt, forcing him to stop. “Think about it Matt, you’re forced to move out because she’s stalking you, you can prove that and get her out of there faster that way.”

“Look, none of this is for pride.” Matt said, grabbing Ryan’s shoulders. “I’m only thinking about Alexis. She fell in love with that apartment, and I want to give her everything she deserves.”

“We know that Matt,” Tiffany said, grabbing his hand and pulling them off Ryan. “But it’s not safe for her right now.”

“You guys are right.” Matt said, leaning against the car. “I guess I can find us a place for a while.”

“Rent a hotel room!” Zack said. Everyone turned to stare at him. “What? Remember when Gina and I had to move out of our apartment because of the mold? We staying in a hotel during that time and it was like a vacation for us.”

“Sounds like a good idea,” Tiffany said. “I’ve noticed you and Alexis are starting to get a little tense with each other. Maybe it would do you two some good.”

“Who said we were getting tense?” Matt asked, turning to stare at his sister. She gave him a dubious look, which caused him to smile sheepishly. “Okay fine, there may be a little tension between us, but look at everything that’s been going on.”

“Maybe that’s why a get a way for the two of you will do you good. Get back to why you two got together to begin with. Why you’re planning on spending the rest of your life with her.” Jimmy said, leaning against a support beam.

“I already know why I want to marry her.” Matt said, scratching his chin. “I love her and she’s my best friend. She makes me want to be a better person.”

“That’s just the general knowledge.” Ryan said. “I want to know that my sister really will be in good hands with you.”

“Ryan, I’ve been your friend since fucking middle school.” Matt said, staring at Ryan.

“I know you’re a good friend Matt, I just want to know you’ll be a good husband to my sister.”

“Damn what is this, intervention?” Matt asked, staring around at everyone gathered around him. “I’ll take her to the hotel and get her away from Tracy. We’ll work on our relationship, what more do you want?”

“Closure.” Ryan said. Matt stared as everyone gathered into the cars. Zack decided to ride with Matt, so he was waiting for Matt to unlock the doors.

“Sorry dude.” Matt said, unlocking the car and sliding behind the wheel. “What is with everyone today man?” he asked after he started the car.

“We’re all on edge.” Zack said, pulling his seatbelt around him.

“You can say that again,” Matt muttered, pulling out of the parking spot. “I guess when I get home I need to reserve a room for the next few weeks somewhere. Where did you and Gina go?”

“The Brighton on 3rd street.” Zack answered. “It was a really nice place.”

“I just might go there.” Matt said, knowing exactly where the place was. Zack nodded.

“You should. If you request it, they give Alexis a day in a spa and they can set the room up with rose petals and stuff like that.” Zack said.

“If I do anything like that, I’ll do it myself.” Matt said, slowing to a stop at a red light. They sat in silence while they waited for the light to turn green. When it did, Matt slowly pulled into the intersection, but pressed his breaks quickly.

“Son of a bitch.” Matt muttered, barely avoiding getting hit by the car.

“See what I mean?” he asked, turning to Zack. Zack just breathed out a sigh, staring after the car. When they finally made it back to the apartment, everyone was waiting in the hallway for them.

“About time!” Tiffany said, standing up.

“Sorry, some dumbass ran a red light and nearly ran into us headfirst.” Zack said. Matt went to unlock the door, but froze.

“What’s up?” Ryan asked as Matt pulled a piece of paper off the door. It was yellow paper, the color actually meaning something.

“What’s that?” Tiffany asked, trying to read over Matt’s shoulder.

“An eviction notice.” Matt answered, reading the paper over. “Tracy’s evicting us, and she’s giving us two days to get out.”
