The Run-away Fire
Scene 6 –The parking lot
Setting:
Elizabeth is seated on a park bench. Will is pacing steadily back and forth. Jayden and Tom are talking quietly. Other police officers are walking on and off stage. One police officer is talking on a phone and goes rushing off towards Robert. He whispers something quietly into his ear.
Robert:
[To other police officer.] Yes, yes thank you. [He walks over to Elizabeth and Will.] We've found some tracks, fresh ones. Down by cabin five.
Elizabeth:
Cabin five. That's the cabin we stayed in.
Robert:
Well that's probably why then.
Tom walks over.
Tom:
Now, how were your children feeling when you last saw them?
Will:
Well, Jason was a bit mad. You see he wanted to stay for longer.
Robert:
Yes, I used to love this place when I was younger.
Jayden:
Well aren't you going to follow the tracks? The last thing I want is these kids disappearing in my park.
Tom:
Oh yes. Right away. [He talks into a walkie-talkie.] Go follow those tracks and remember to spread out.
Elizabeth:
I never thought they'd do something like this. [Elizabeth sniffs.] They were always such good kids.
Will:
Don't cry. I'm sure it will all turn out right in the end.
Elizabeth:
William Turner are you suggesting that our children running away is fine?
Will:
No, no I just…
Robert enters stage right.
Robert:
We've found something.
Elizabeth:
What! What have you found?
Tom:
It's a small piece of clothing. Probably from a jacket, do you recognise it?
Will:
That's from Audrey's jacket.
Elizabeth:
Where did you find that?
Robert:
Down by cabin five.
Elizabeth:
The same place as the tracks.
Tom:
They're probably close by. We'll keep looking around.
Elizabeth:
Can we come?
Robert:
I'm sure that will be fine.
Elizabeth:
I'll go get my bag. [Elizabeth walks off to go get her bag.]
Will:
Do you think my kids will be ok?
Tom:
I'm sure they'll be fine Mr Turner.
Robert:
We've been on many searches.
Tom:
And we've never failed one.
Will:
That makes me feel so much better. [Elizabeth walks back over.]
Elizabeth:
Well, I'm ready to go.
Tom:
Alright then.
They all exit stage right.
Black Out.
End Scene 6
