The Run-away Fire
Scene 5 – In the Bush
Setting:
Jason and Audrey are sitting on the grass while Penelope is wandering around by the trees.
Audrey:
I'm starving; did you bring anything to eat?
Jason:
Food, I knew I forgot something.
Audrey:
You didn't bring food? Geez, if I knew, I wouldn't have come.
Jason:
You had no choice.
Audrey:
Huh? What do you mean?
Jason:
I took Penelope.
Audrey:
So?
Jason:
Mum and Dad said you had to look after her, so there.
Audrey:
Well, then you'd better find us some food. Penelope, Penelope!
Jason:
Alright, alright. [Jason sighs; stands up and goes looking for food. Penelope runs over.] How about these berries? [Jason points to a bush with bright red berries. He picks one and begins raising it to his mouth.]
Audrey:
Don't eat it. They could be poisonous.
Jason swallows the berry whole.
Jason:
They're alright. [Jason begins to choke.]
Audrey runs over terrified.
Audrey:
Oh no! Jason, I told you not to eat it!
Jason suddenly stops choking and bursts out laughing.
Jason:
You should have seen your face!
Audrey:
Jason! [Audrey storms off back towards Penelope.]
Jason rolls around on the grass laughing.
Penelope:
I'm hungry Audrey. [Penelope rubs her stomach.] I'm hungry Jason.
Jason:
Don't eat the berries, [starting to laugh] there poisonous.
Penelope takes a bite of a berry.
Penelope:
Eww!
Audrey:
Come on. It's getting dark; we better find a place to rest for the night.
Penelope:
What about that cave? [Penelope points to a dark cave.]
Jason:
Ok, but lets hope the Boogie Man doesn't come along.
Penelope:
Huh? What's a Boogie Man?
Audrey:
Let's go.
Penelope:
Tell me! What's a Boogie Man? Tell me!
The children enter the cave.
