Dead in the Water

(Nonnie’s POV)

“You know Amanda’s going to be so pissed at you,” I said as Frank pulled out of the parking lot.

“Yeah and what do you think she’s going to be? Happy that you came along?”

“Probably not, but I wasn’t going to let you come out here looking for Gee all alone.”

“Don’t call him that, you need to get it out of your mind. He’s not our friend. He tried to kill Amanda and he tried to kill me. He wants to turn you into a monster and all you do is…”

“I get it, Gerard Arthur Way is a bad guy.” I bit my lip. “Do you think we should have told Mikey about Gerard?”

“No, it would just make it hard on everyone else when we have to kill him.” I let a silence hang between us. I hated thinking about killing Gerard. He’d always meant so much to me.

(Flashback)

I ran up to Gerard jumping onto his back. He almost fell over from the force but quickly recovered. He was always the one to give me a ride home from school even though he had already graduated, cause I didn’t have my license yet and he was coming to pick up Mikey anyway. We met my freshman year and his sophomore year. We’ve been best friends every since. He’s always looked out for me.

“So did you tell him to ask me?” I asked excitedly. I had told him four days ago to tell Frank to ask me to prom. I’ve been waiting impatiently for him to do it, but it’s been a whole four days and still nothing.

“I…I," he stammered.

“Nonnie!” Frank yelled from across the parking lot interrupting Gerard. I jumped down from Gerard’s back and rushed over to him throwing my arms around him. He hugged me back.

“What’s up Frankie?” I said as we pulled away.

“Well.” he looked really nervous. “I was wondering if you wanted to go to prom with me.” I stood there about to play with him a little but decided not to jinx something that I had been looking forward to most of my life.

“Duh, why did you take so long to ask you jerk.”

“Hey Non, we’re leaving,” Gerard said pulling up to where we were standing.

“Oh well I could give you a ride,” Frank offered.

“I…I’m covered for a ride, Gee. I’ll call you guys when I get home.” I said leaning into the window. He didn’t look like he wanted to leave me with Frank.

“Non…” he started.

“Thank you Gerard. You really came through for me.” I whispered. I blew him a kiss and turned back to get into the car with Frank.

(End Flashback)

“He never told me to ask you.” Frank said.

“What did I tell you about being in my head?” I said.

“I was going to ask you anyway. I just needed a little time to get up the nerve. He never told me to ask you.” I didn’t want to believe it, but recent events led me to think it could be true.

Frank pulled into a parking spot close to the dock. “Okay so you stay in the car…” he started as I got out of the car closing the door behind me. I saw him get out and take a deep breath. “Non if I say run please just run okay?”

“Got it.” I said, knowing that I wouldn’t leave him to try and fight off a bunch of vampires by himself. I don’t care how much super strength he has. We laced our fingers together and started walking toward the docks. “Frank can we move back in together? I mean you move in with me?”

“Non I basically already live with you.” he said.

“I know, but I want to make it official. I mean, I really have started to get used to having you sleeping beside me again and I don’t want to lose that.” He stopped and pulled me so that I was facing him.

“Nonnie I’m not going anywhere and if you want me to officially move in to prove it I will. You just have to convince Pete to let me stay in his house.”

“I thought I told you not to touch what was mine,” I heard Gerard say.

Suddenly I was pulled from his arms and into Gerard’s. I didn’t hesitate to elbow him in his side, then I turned and tried to punch him, but he grabbed my hand. I closed my eyes knowing that if I looked at him I would be in trouble. I could hear Frank fighting, but I wasn’t sure how many of Gerard’s men he was fighting against. I tried again to hit Gerard, but he must have seen it coming. He twisted my arms behind my back crushing our bodies together.

“I can give you life everlasting. Youth and beauty forever. Don’t you want that?” Gerard whispered into my ear. I brought my knee up and kneed him in the groin. It knocked him off balance enough so that I could pull away. I knew better than to try and fight him again. I just ran to help Frank. I quickly staked one of the vampires that was fighting him.

“Non run!” Frank said in my head. I knew he was trying his best not to make it a command so for once I did as I was told. We weren’t far from the car. If I could just make it to the car I could call for help. I only stopped when a vampire came into my path I quickly disposed of him and kept running to the car. Finally I made it to the car. My hand grasped the handle and I opened the door. I was stepping in when I felt someone’s arm wrap around my waist.

“Now Sugar that wasn’t nice!” Gerard said. This time without warning his teeth sunk into my neck. I screamed out for help.

“Gerard, please…” I started to say as he sucked my blood, making me weaker and weaker.

“Nonnie fight.” Frank whispered across my mind. Then he was gone. Gerard was showing me what he’s seen over the years. The way he would look at me with admiration from the moment we met and I never noticed. He showed me his pain at watching me with Frank. I saw how he lost all hope the day we announced our engagement.

“I didn’t know.” I said, I could feel myself getting weaker. “Gerard, please don’t…”

“Now we can be together, you and me.” I couldn’t move and I couldn’t fight. Finally I fell from his arms as Frank came over and they started fighting.

“Non, try to get to the car.” He yelled. I gathered all my strength and crawled into the car. I closed the door and locked it. Then let the darkness take over.
