Dead in the Water

The Missing Fiance

(Amanda’s POV)
“Wait, what?” I asked confused.

“I said he was my fiancé.” Nonnie replied.

“I got that. I just needed a moment to process it.” I said. So Nonnie was in love with this Frank guy and he died. I guess the next question is how.

“How did he die?” I asked.

“He went out with some friends of his. One of them was a guy named Brendon who I haven’t seen lately either. Frank was supposed to have gone to a party and then come straight home. I received a phone call around three in the morning. Frank and I were living together at the time. It was the police calling me to tell me that Frank was dead and that they found him in an alley. I was to id his body at the morgue.” Nonnie explained.

“Was Adam working there at the time?” I asked so that I could try to investigate more.

“Adam?” She asked.

“Sisky?” I replied.

“I don’t know if he was or not. I do not know when he started. All I know about him was that he was turned at the same time as Pete.” Nonnie explained.

“I had no idea about that.” I said anxious for my date now to get some answers. Maybe Sisky holds a key to how I saw Frank.

“Anyway when I made it to the morgue, Frank was there. I went to the funeral and everything but I felt as if something was not right. I thought at one point someone was following me for the longest time everywhere I went. Two months went by after his death and I ran into Joe.

He was a regular at the diner I worked for down the street. I was working late one evening and when I got off, I was attacked behind the diner where we park our cars. It was vampires. Joe and his friends heard me scream and came to my rescue. We had just clicked ever since.” Nonnie explained.

“Do you love Joe?” I asked.

“I do but I have to know if Frank is still out there. I still love him and I need to resolve that before I move ahead further with Joe.” She said sighing.

“What if I find him in this huge city and he is bad?” I ask.

“Then I understand that you have to kill him. My Frank would be gone.” She said.

“What if he is good? Are you going to just up and leave Joe?” I asked.

“I don’t know. I honestly do not know but I do have to know if he is. I want to put the past behind me and see if he was following me for a while.” She said.

“Nonnie, I don’t want to hurt Joe.” I said put in a bad position.

“I know you don’t. If anything should occur, I will take the blame. Please do this for me and don’t tell Joe.” Nonnie begged.

“Is it ok if I tell Erelin?” I asked.

“Will she tell Joe?” Nonnie asked afraid.

“She won’t unless I tell her to.” I replied.

“Then I guess it is ok.” Nonnie said.

“Can you tell me more about this Brendon guy?” I asked curious to know if it was the same Brendon, which Erelin met last night. If it was, I felt that he was good but I also had that bad vibe about him as well. If nothing else, I can confront this Brendon vampire for answers.

“I only met him a few times when Frank invited him into our home. He was tall and had dark hair. He looked pale and wore a stupid hat that Frank always made fun of.” Nonnie said trying to remember. Yes, that was the one and the same Brendon.

“Actually, I think that Pete may know this Brendon fella because Joe had mentioned him once. He told me to stay away from him if I ever saw him again. He was an enemy of Pete’s and responsible for turning him but that Pete would never mention Brendon to anyone other than to warn them. That is what led me to the idea that Frank may still be alive somewhere. You may want to ask Pete about Brendon.” Nonnie said giving me some helpful information.

“I think I will.” I said. I would not ask just because of Frank, however, but because of Erelin. I do not want to lose her to a vampire. I will definitely learn more about this vampire named Brendon.

“Thank you for helping me.” Nonnie replied smiling.

“I can’t guarantee anything but I will try to find out something. I have a word of advice however.” I said.

“What is that?” She asked.

“Don’t keep secrets from Joe. At least tell him about Frank. You can leave out about finding him for now but Joe deserves to know you were about to be married to someone before he met you.” I said before a knock occurred on the door.

“Who is it?” Nonnie replied giving me a shocked look at what I had said.

“It’s me, Joe. May I come in?” He asked.

“Uh, sure.” Nonnie replied nervously hiding her box with Frank’s picture.

“Pete is ready to go out slaying. He wants to know if you are ready and Patrick has Jenny a little peeved right now because he is stoked to see how well you fight.” He said laughing as he stuck his head in the door.

“I’m ready.” I said walking out the door and leaving Nonnie alone with Joe.
