Dead in the Water

The Call

(Amanda’s POV)
I woke up to find myself in the hallway of my apartment complex. I was sitting against the door of my apartment. I looked down at my watch to see that it was almost eight in the morning. Brendon must have dropped me off here before sunrise.

I checked my pockets to see I had my car keys, apartment key, and id with me. He had to have looked at my id to know where I lived. I got up sleepily as it had been a long night.

Everyone must be worried sick about me. I hoped Erelin had my car. If she did not, it is probably still in that bad part of town getting broken into, knowing my luck. I am glad I gave Erelin the spare key to the car.

I grabbed my key to the apartment and went in expecting to find Erelin or my sister here worried sick about me. Instead, I found and empty apartment. I found my phone on the coffee table. I forgot I had left it here. There were twenty messages all from a frantic Erelin and Elissa. Erelin left one telling me that Nonnie had been kidnapped and Elissa knows something happened between Joe and Nonnie and was pressing her for answers on top of her wishing that I were ok.

It is not that I wanted them to worry anymore about me, but I had spent the night in an abandoned warehouse on a cot with Brendon. I was going to take a shower and then maybe call Erelin. I figured that they were probably all over at Pete’s since they were not here.

While I took my shower, my thoughts raced to what Brendon had told me about this Frank guy I was supposed to find for Nonnie and all of the info she gave me on him. I do not think the Dandies took her. It had to be Frank and if he hurts her in any way, I am going to kill him. Poor Joe, he must be going out of his mind right now.

I know that Frank is good according to Brendon. Why would he wait until now though to make a move and kidnap her when he had all this time to do it? I just do not understand. There is also the possibility that if he was the one who kidnapped her that she will not want to come back home to Joe. This is just one big mess.

I stepped out of the shower and my cell phone rang. I ran to grab it to see that it was Sisky calling me. I picked it up.

“Hello?” I asked.

“Amanda! You are ok!” Sisky said happy to hear my voice.

“Yes, I am fine.” I said happy to hear his voice, which was a shock to me.

“I have to call Pete and tell him.” Sisky replied.

“No! I will do that. It is a long story.” I said.

“Who kidnapped you?” He asked.

“I will tell you if you promise not to tell Pete.” I said.

“Ok.” He replied.

“It was Brendon.” I said hearing silence from Sisky.

“Sisky?” I asked.

“Why did he kidnap you?” He asked.

“It is a long story but I am alive. I am fine. He did not hurt me. Actually, he saved my life last night.” I said.

“Oh.” He replied as if I was happy to have been with Brendon.

“Sisky, nothing is going on between Brendon and me if that is what you are thinking.” I said.

“Oh.” He said sounding a little better.

“Listen, since Nonnie was kidnapped and I have to find her, our date has to be postponed but why don’t you come over to Pete’s tonight. I have to tell you something about what happened to me and I have some questions for you.” I said. “Maybe you can help me find her.” I said.

“I shall be there when the sun goes down then. I am glad to hear your voice. When Pete called me I was worried.” Sisky said sounding cute.

“I am fine. Just don’t call Pete to tell him I am back yet, ok?” I replied.

“Ok.” He said.

“I shall see you tonight.” I said smiling.

“Tonight, then and don’t worry about Nonnie. We will find her.” Sisky said before hanging up. I hope so if I do not kill Frank first for taking her.

I finished getting ready and locked up the apartment. I remembered to grab my phone this time. I walked out to where my car was supposed to be to see it not there in its spot. I guess I would be taxing it to Pete’s place.
