You Leave Me Breathless

Choice

[Peyton]

Over the next couple of days, Trinity didn’t talk to me. I can’t say I blame her. I wouldn’t want to talk to me either. Bringing up our mother? That was low, even for us. I knew I had to make things right, starting with Drew.

When Trinity was asleep, I picked up my phone and scrolled to Drew’s number. After three rings he picked up.

Drew: Heyyy Peyton, what’s up?
Peyton: Not much. Um, can we meet before work? I need to talk to you about something important
Drew: Yeah sure, meet you in Starbucks next door at 7?
Peyton: 7’s great. Thanks
Drew: Anything for a beautiful girl like you
Peyton: Er, see you later!

I quickly hung up, cursing under my breath. This was going to be harder than I thought. Now...what to do till 7?

[7pm]

“I’m going to Starbucks, see you at work!” I called to Trinity

No answer. Not that I expected one. With a sigh, I flung my bag over my shoulder and headed out the apartment, walking the ten minutes down the road to Starbucks. Drew was already there waiting for me.

“Hey gorgeous,” he drawled, handing me a tall latte as I sat down opposite him

“Hi Drew,” I said politely

“So what’s up?” he asked, relaxing in his chair with a smile

This is going to be harder than I thought. My pause made Drew’s smile turn to a frown.

“What’s wrong, Peyton?” Drew repeated, this time in a serious tone

“I-I don’t think we should...do what we do any more,” I said slowly

“What? Why?” Drew demanded

“I just don’t think it’s a good idea,” I said softly, not meeting his eyes

“Who’s the other guy?” Drew asked angrily

My eyes bulged slightly. How did he know?!

“Drew...” I trailed off weakly

“I knew it. Damn, I mean I knew you were out of my league anyway, but that fact that I’m not the only one you’re fucking makes this just wonderful,” Drew exasperated

“Drew, I’m sorry...I shouldn’t have played you along...I’m sorry,” I said firmly, looking deeply into his eyes

Drew seemed to soften at the sight of my baby blues, and nodded.

“Sorry for blowing up at you. I guess we were never official anyway, were we? We had a fun run,” Drew sighed

“I still want to be friends with you, Drew. You’re a really great guy – you deserve someone a lot better than me. And you’ll find her, I can tell,” I said with a small smile

“Y’think?” Drew asked

“Mm, I do,” I said honestly

The two of us lapsed into casual conversation, and I let out a breath I didn’t know I had been holding. One thing’s for sure – I didn’t expect it to go that well. Now I’ve just got to tell Trinity and hope she forgives me.

“Alright girls, see you later!” Connor called

“Bye Connor!” we chorused

Trinity still hadn’t spoken to me all night. I tried to start a conversation with her several times, but she just walked away. We can’t go on like this! We’re the Hayes sisters! We don’t argue!

“I heard something interesting during our shift,” Trinity said randomly

I looked at her startled. What?

“I heard you told Drew you didn’t want to sleep with him any more,” Trinity said simply, pulling a bottle out her bag

“What’s in that?” I asked dubiously

I know my sister. It could be anything.

“Jagermeister. You met Drew at Starbucks, didn’t you?” Trinity asked, finally looking at me with an eyebrow raised

“Yuh,” I nodded, grabbing the bottle

Trinity grinned as I took a swig. I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand and passed her the bottle. She took a swig and mimicked my actions.

“What made you do it?” she asked innocently

“Don’t give me that bullcrap. You calling me a slut made me realise I actually was one. Sure, we mess around guys, but not two at a time. Especially not for this long. I knew I had to ditch at least one of them. Drew’s a great guy, but Frank’s...different,” I shrugged, taking back the bottle

Trinity cackled, clapping her hands together.

“Thank fuck. Do you know how hard it was not talking to you?” she breathed, punching her fist in the air

“You’re such an ass,” I grumbled, rolling my eyes

“I know. And if you ever bring up our mother again, I will kick yours,” Trinity warned

“Bitch, like you could beat me in a fight,” I scoffed teasingly

Trinity’s fist shot out, catching me in the jaw. I gasped, laughing softly, as my hand rubbed the sore spot. Before she realised it, I swung my leg and kicked her in the back of the knees. As she tumbled to the floor, I put my hands on my hips and smirked.

“You were saying?” I asked cockily

Trinity’s leg swung round, knocking my feet out from underneath me. With a soft shriek, I fell to the sidewalk as well, landing heavily on my ass as Trinity laughed. I couldn’t help but join in her laughter.

“So are we cool now?” I groaned, standing to my feet

“Yeah,” Trinity grinned, jumping to her feet

How she did that in 6-inch heels without wobbling is something I’ll never know. Trinity picked up her bag and bottle, linking arms with me as we carried on our walk.

“So are you going to make it official with Frank?” Trinity asked innocently

“Are you going to marry Mikey and have his kids?” I shot back with a fake-smile

Trinity grimaced, clearly appalled by the idea. Thank fuck.

“Enough said,” Trinity muttered back

I just laughed and grabbed the jagermeister. All I can say is Thank Fuck Everything’s Back To Normal. Well, as normal as we get, anyway.

So everything's good for the Hayes sisters again.
Well, I couldn't leave them arguing, could I? that's just unnatural =]
And Peyton's made her choice - what will Frank's reaction be?
