The Life I Never Knew I Had

The Life I Never Knew I Had Chapter 24

“What do we do?” Ryan asked. My parents and my two brothers were around our kitchen table.
Lance called to warn us that Elliott and Damien’s henchmen are heading to Maryland to look for us.
I was sitting on the sofa with my head in my hands. My thumb played with my ring as I thought about everything.
“You two should lay low, med school, work and home. Nothing more. If things get worst then you two need to make a run for it,” my dad said.
“I think that’s the best thing for now. Lance is staying with my dad for any new news”.
“Okay,” my mom said. “I think you two need to get some rest. Be safe driving home”.
Ryan walked over to me and gently touched my shoulder. “Come on honey,” he whispered.
I took a deep breath and quickly stood up. I waved to my family and hurried out the door.
Ryan followed me out the door and into the car.
The drive home was quiet and the tension wasn’t helping.
We reach our apartment safely and I headed to the bathroom.
I took a shower and changed into my pajamas.
“Jenny,” Ryan said as I walked out of the bathroom. “Everything is going to be okay,”
“Is it? Will it? We don’t know that, Ryan. This whole thing was a mistake! I shouldn’t have agreed to run away with you. This isn’t right,”
“What isn’t? Love, the love we have for each other. What’s so wrong about that?”
“What’s right about it?” I asked as tears ran down my face.
Ryan took my hands and pulled me over to him. He slowly wiped my tears away and smiled at me. “You love me right?”
I nodded my head.
“And I love you. That’s all that matters. Sometimes, you have to fight for what is right and for what you want,”
I smiled and hugged him. “What would I do without you?”
“You’ll be with Elliott, pretending that you love him and destroying your homeland”.
“Well, thank God you’re here,” I said hugging him.

The next morning Ryan dropped me off at school and before he headed to work.
I was supposed to be shadowing Doctor Drew today so I didn’t actually have school.
I meet Doctor Drew outside his office.
“Nice to see you again, Jennifer. You’ll be the head doctor today. I just made my rounds and did some paper work so, what do you want to do next?” he asked.
“Check on the patients who need the most attention,” I said taking his clip broad.
We made our way around to his patients.
The day was pretty slow, nothing major happened. At two o’clock Doctor Drew had to operate on Mrs. Green’s lung. He wanted me to be there to help with the operation.
Around six we had to help a little girl with her broke leg and help another woman deliver her baby.
I said goodbye to Doctor Drew at eight and Ryan took us home.
He opened the front door and walked in after me.
“So, what’s for dinner?” Ryan asked as he followed me into our bedroom.
“I don’t know,” I said. “What are you in the mood for?”
“There are lots of things that I’m in the mood for,” he said.
I smiled at him before he kissing me.
We fell on the bed and I held Ryan close to me.
He quickly pulled away and looked up.
“What?” I asked looking at his serious face.
“Someone’s here”.
“What?”
“I heard footsteps,” he said getting off of me and looking around the room.
“Ryan, you don’t think…”
“Most likely. Stay close to me,” he said walking into the living room.
I followed behind him as he looked around.
“Get ready to put your training to good use,” he whispered to me as he looked around. “I know you guys are in here, might as well show your faces”.
One by one the men start to come out of their hiding places and formed a circle around us. I recognized most of them from my kidnapping and from seeing them around the castle. They seemed a lot scarier now than before.
“Nice to see you again, your highness,” one of them said.
“The feelings mutual, Joe,” Ryan said. “What are the chances of you guys going back home and forgetting this whole thing?”
“What are the chances that you give us the princess?”
“So, that’s how the game is going to be played? Well I order you to return to Algonquin or better yet retire”.
“The king ordered us to not listen to you or the princess”.
“In that case…”
Ryan jump kicked Joe and the others ran toward us.
Ryan and fought side by side, slowly making our way to the front door.
Ryan knocked out one of the guys and grabbed the car keys. “Let’s go!” he said running out the door.
I kicked the guy I was fighting with in the balls and ran after Ryan.
I could here the others guys cashing us. I meet Ryan outside and quickly got in the car.
He sped away for our apartment and onto the road.
“In the backseat you should see a suitcase,” Ryan said.
“A suitcase?” I asked reaching for it
“I didn’t know what was going to happen so I just packed what we needed,” he said as I opened it.
“Clothes, water, money and guns,” I said looking at him.
“Get them ready,”
“The guns?”
“Yes, Jenny, the guns,”
As I loaded the guns I heard a gun shot. “We have company,” Ryan said making a sharp turn.
I heard more guns being fired as Ryan tried to out run them.
“You’re going to have to shoot,”
“What?”
“Fire back at them,” Ryan said.
“What if I kill someone?”
“Do you really think they care about that?”
“I’m not them, Ryan!”
“Damn it, Jenny! Just fire the guns! It’s life or death,”
I sighed and opened up the sunroof. I made sure both guns were loaded and ready before I pocked my head out the roof.
They were on motorcycles and shooting at us.
I quickly aimed the guns at the wheels on their bikes. My aim was pretty good. Once I shot all the wheels I climbed back into the car.
“Nice job,” Ryan said.
“Thanks,”
“Reload them, there has to be more of them,”
I did as I was told and Ryan seemed to speed up a little.
“Slow down a little,”
“Not until we’re-”
A truck crashed into our car causing us to flip over several times before crashing into a building.
I hit my head on the roof and slowly blacked out.

I don’t like how I ended that...but you get the point.
