I Want a Taste of Your Medicine
Secrets Revealed
"Trent buddy, hows it going man?" Marshall said walking up to him and doing that weird handshake slash hug thing that guys always do. He looked at me to make sure it was okay before hand though.
"Not too bad, what about you man?" Trent said excepting the beer that Marshall had gotten for him, opening it and taking a sip. The rest of the guys seemed to look confused. I would have thought that Marshall would have brought him up at least once to these guys.
"Things have been great, the surfing thing is really picking up and so I've got to start getting out there more. I just recently got back from a competition in California," Marshall said taking a sip of his beer. I walked into the kitchen and poured myself some Smirnoff ice.
"That's pretty sweet, we should go surfing together sometime. I'm more into hockey but I've been surfing a bit and I'm not too bad to work with," Trent said and I looked over at him surprised. He never told me he could surf.
"Awesome. We should definitely do that sometime," Marshall said looking just as surprised as me. A cough was sounded through the room and Marshall quickly jumped to introduce everyone. "Guys this is Trent, Trent these are my buddies Adam, Landon, Max, and Jake,"
They all shook hands because that's just how Trent was but they still continued to stare with confusion in their eyes. I walked over beside Trent and wrapped my arm around his side so that maybe they would take the hint and stop it, but they seemed to be even more confused by my action; except Landon.
"Did you two work things out?" Marshall said laughing a little bit.
"Yeah, I just needed to clear my mind a little bit," Trent said and Marshall nodded.
"And working things out would mean you were what to her exactly?" Adam said a little annoyed. I wanted to push him and tell him to shut up, but Trent's arm found its way to my waste as he kissed the top of my head. The top of my head rested right below his chin so it wasn't that hard for him.
"He's my boyfriend," I said glaring at Adam.
"Oh cause she never really mentioned you so I just wasn't sure," Adam said shrugging. Couldn't he just shut his big mouth for one and not ruin anything or try to?
"I don't really blame her, I made a mistake letting her go," Trent said pulling me closer to him. He was standing behind me hugging me now and I held onto his hand that was resting on my stomach. Marshall didn't seem to mind, he just finished his beer and went and got another one.
I kissed Trent and told him I would be back after and that I just had to talk to them about some stuff. He and Marshall ran outside and I figured that they were going on the sea doos. Marshall would be ecstatic if I ended up marrying him.
It was just Adam, Max, Jake, and Landon in the room with me now and I felt more tension in the air than before. They all just stood around staring at me. Max and Jake seemed to be alright with it and Landon had gotten used to the idea but it was completely new to Adam and he seemed pissed.
"Why is he here?" Adam asked, the anger leaking out of his voice so clearly. I just stood there for a few seconds. "Well?"
"We broke up before I came here and he, um, came here to make things right again," I said fidgeting on the spot. Why was this so hard to say to them? Trent was my boyfriend like before and I loved him.
"It would have been nice to let us know that," Landon said this time. I looked over at him in shock and anger. Why the hell did he even care about this at all?
"I didn't feel like talking about it and none of you asked about my home life," I said quietly, shrugging.
"You're a whore," Adam said crossing his arms and this time I didn't react. Normally I would have walked up to him and slapped him, but I didn't this time.
"Shut up, Adam," Jake said walking over to me.
"Or what, you going to hit me? Come on I dare you Jake," Adam said and Jake walked up to him. For a while they just stood there with their heads pressed together in anger, ready to fight.
"Guys stop it!" I yelled running in between them. I guess it was stupid of me to do that and it sucked that I had to figure that out after Adam pushed me to the ground.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Landon and Max yelled at Adam, rushing down to help me up. I just pushed them up and walked over to the counter and sat down.
"She's got it in her mind that she can just do as she pleases, that she can just have anything she wants. Her life is perfect in her eyes and she doesn't give a shit about anything other than her shoes and her hockey player boyfriend," Adam said and this time I didn't hesitate to defend myself.
"YOU THINK I THINK MY LIFE IS PERFECT? YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH. DOES YOUR MOTHER NEGLECT YOU OR YOUR FATHER JUST NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOU? DID YOU GO TO A PARTY WITH YOUR FRIEND WHEN YOU WERE 17 AND GET INTO THE CAR DRUNK BRINGING HER WITH YOU WHEN YOU GOT IN THE CAR? HAVE YOU EVER NOT FORGIVEN YOURSELF FOR PUTTING YOUR BEST FRIEND IN A WHEEL CHAIR? DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT'S LIKE? TRENT WAS THERE FOR ME THROUGH ALL OF THAT, SO DON'T EVEN PISS YOURSELF OVER THE IDEA OF HIM BECAUSE HE'S BEEN AMAZING TO ME. YOU CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE THE HURT THAT I GET IN MY CHEST EVERYDAY KNOWING THAT MY MISTAKES HAVE COST OTHER PEOPLE SO MUCH. DON'T EVEN TRY AND SAY THAT I THINK MY LIFE IS PERFECT WHEN MY LIFE IS FAR FROM EVER COMING CLOSE TO PERFECT!" I was crying and screaming this at him. Letting everything I tried to keep away from this place leak out of me and to the ears of the guys. They all stood there with these looks on their faces. That look that everybody gave me when they heard about what had happened. Well the look most people gave me, the look of feeling sorry for someone or not knowing what to say.
I didn't want them to feel sorry for me though, I just wanted them to understand me better. It was my fault for what happened to Jada and I would never let myself live that down. That happened to me when I had just turned 17, a week or so after I started dating Trent. It was the day after my birthday actually.
"I'm sor-"
"Don't. Just please, don't" I said cutting Adam off, sitting back down on the stool and resting my head on my arm.
"I'm sorry for what happened to you, and everything you're going through, but you can't use that as an excuse for hurting other people Pattyn. What I'm trying to say here is that you need to set things straight before you act on anything." Max said walking over and placing his hands on my shoulders. "I'm going for a walk now, nobody follow," Just as quick as his hands were on my shoulders, they were gone and so was he. Adam just shook his head and walked off and Landon shrugged and walked away too. Jake was the only one who stayed.
"Things will get better," He said, "But you have to let them," And then he too walked out of the room.
"Not too bad, what about you man?" Trent said excepting the beer that Marshall had gotten for him, opening it and taking a sip. The rest of the guys seemed to look confused. I would have thought that Marshall would have brought him up at least once to these guys.
