Two is Better Than One

The Rest of the Guys

Jordan's POV

I watched as Allie walked down the hallway, smiling. I smiled to myself as I sat next to Kris on the couch.

“She’s cute.” I said

Kris put his beer down a looked at me, “Don’t Jordan. She’s not some puck slut you can fuck and leave. She’s my cousin’s best friend.” He shook his head. “Just please don’t.”

I held up my hands in defense. “Whoa Tanger, chill. I wasn’t thinking of it that way. I was just saying that she is cute.”

Kris sighed and picked up his beer. “Yeah, she is.” He said before taking a sip.

I leaned back on the couch and smiled. Things were going to be interesting with Allie and Alaina living here, especially Allie. There was just something about the smartass, shy girl that drew me to her. I normally went for the party girls that would be willing to sleep with me. I was the playboy of the team. Maybe it was time for a change in my patterns, and Allie would be the perfect change.

Allie’s POV

I was still lying on my bed thinking about the blond haired, blue eyed hockey player in the living room when there was a light knock on my door.

“Come in,” I said sitting up.

My door opened and in walked in a smiling Alaina. She sat down on my bed and continued to smile at me.

“So how are you doing?” She asked

“What do you mean?” I asked confused.

“Oh come on Allie, I saw your face in there. You were totally star struck and drooling all over Jordan.” she laughed

There was no use denying it, as much as I tried to hide it my best friend knew the truth. “Yeah I was. I seriously never realized how cute Jordan was.”

“Yeah, he really is. But watch out for him Allie Al, he’s a player.”

“I know Alaina.” I sighed.

Alaina began making fun of me for my reaction to both Kris and Jordan. She was mocking me and all I could do was laugh because she was doing it perfectly. We were laughing so hard that we didn’t hear the door open and Kris walk in.

“Allie and Alaina, the rest of the guys are here.” Kris said

Alaina smiled at me one last time before following Kris to the living room. I stood up and straightened out my hoodie and hair. I took a deep breath and walked out into the living room where more of the Pittsburgh Penguins were hanging out. When I walked into the living room I looked around and about fainted. There were four very familiar guys sitting around. I couldn’t stop the smile that crossed my face, I was living my dream. Alaina was sitting next to Sidney, smiling at me.

“Guys, “Kris said, walking over to me. He placed ho arm around my shoulders and smiled at me. “This is Laney’s best friend Allie. They just moved 'ere from California.” There was a chorus of hellos and unneeded introductions.

Jordan motioned for me to sit next to him, so I gave Kris a quick kiss on his cheek and went towards him. “So I bet you’re in heaven right now,” he teased and I blushed.

I pushed his shoulder gently. “Shut up Staal. I’ll get over this after today.”

“Get over what?” Sidney asked, sitting down next to me.

I blushed again. “Uh, nothing.” I stammered. I felt more than heard Jordan laughing next to me.

“She’s freaking out because all of her favorite players are I the same room as her.” Jordan said.

My face flushed like a thousand shades redder than what it was before he said that. As I looked around the room, it got even redder. Alaina had her face buried behind Kris’ shoulder, laughing her ass off. I glared at her even though she couldn’t see me. I groaned as I slammed my head against the back of the couch. Sidney giggled, which started a chain reaction of laughter, at my expense. I quickly covered my face with my hands so no one could see how embarrassed I was. I felt a pair of large hands wrap around my wrist, trying to remove my hands.

“Allie,” Sidney said quietly. “We are all honored to be your favorite players.”

I looked around the room through my fingers and saw all of the guys smiling and nodding at me. Getting genuine smiles from these guys really helped me relax some. I slowly uncover my face completely and smiled at the guys. This wouldn’t be so bad after all.

As the day went on I relaxed more, I was joking around with everyone and enjoying the company. After dinner and a few beers, I found myself flirting with Jordan. Then Max suggested we watch a movie and of course we watched Paranormal Activity. I did not like scary movies, I was freaking out even before it was in the DVD player.

“Allie, are you okay?” Jordan whispered as the movie started.

“Um, no not really. I don’t like scary movies.” I confessed.

Jordan held up his arm and sat there looking at me. “What are you doing?” I asked with a chuckle.

“I’m going to hold you during the movie.”

As bad of an idea that was, I found myself snuggling up against his side and resting my head on his chest. I looked around the room; Marc-Andre was sitting at the end of the couch where Jordan and I were sitting. Max was lying on the floor, Geno was sitting at the other end of the couch where Sidney and Alaina where getting pretty cozy. I smiled at Alaina when she caught my eye; she just simply smiled and shrugged her shoulders. As the movie started, I found myself falling asleep on Jordan’s chest. It was the traveling, the alcohol, and all the excitement from the day catching up to me. The last thing I remember about that night was Jordan rubbing my back lightly.

Jordan’s POV

Allie has been snoring lightly on my chest since the movie started. In the beginning I could tell she wasn’t happy about the movie choice, but then she relaxed some. I guess rubbing her back wasn’t such a bad thing after all, because now she won’t wake up with nightmaresthat wouldn’t be a bad thing though because it would give me a reason to hold her again. I smiled.

When the movie ended, I gently picked her up and carried her to her room. I laid her down on her bed and covered her up. I backed away from the bed, but didn’t leave right away. She looked so innocent and young sleeping. Hell, she looked down right beautiful in her faded jeans, yellow Penguins hoodie, and her hair slightly messed up. I suddenly had the urge to brush her cheek and that scared me a bit. So before I could do anything rash, I left her room just as quietly as I entered and joined the others in the living room.

Allie’s POV

When I woke up this morning, I was hoping today was going to be a lazy day, but Alaina had other plans. We started our apartment hunting today. While we were out looking around, Kris called us to pass a message on from Flower. Vero, Marc-Andre’s girlfriend, knew of an apartment for sale that was close to both Kris and Jordan’s apartment, and downtown Pittsburgh. So we headed for the café where we were to meet her. When we met up with her, the three of us just clicked. She told us about her life in Pittsburgh as she showed us the way to the apartment building. The building that she had shown us had been our like seventh or eighth apartment, but it just wasn’t for us. We didn’t hate it though so we did keep it in mind. After saying goodbye to Vero, Alaina and I made our way back to Kris’ apartment, exhausted.

Later that afternoon, Kris and Alaina went out shopping, so I took the time to relax some. I was lounging on the couch, watching a pre-season baseball game when I felt the couch shift down by my feet. I looked away from the game and saw Jordan sitting there.

“Can I help you?” I asked, looking back at the television.

“You like baseball?” He asked

“Yeah, I use to play softball so I have an understanding for it. If there is no softball games on, I’ll watch baseball.” I chuckled a little. “It also helps when I want to talk to guys.”

Jordan laughed. “What other sports do you watch?”

“Well hockey of course, baseball, and football.”

“Don’t forget softball.”

“and of course softball.” I smiled.

The crack of the bat on the TV grabbed my attention as Ryan Howard hit a home-run, I started cheering and Jordan just laughed lightly. Once I calmed down, I looked over at Jordan, he wasn’t paying attention to me, he was still looking at the screen and absentmindedly rubbing my leg. He must have sensed me staring at him because he turned and smiled at me. I looked down at his hand again and his gaze followed. He blushed slightly and removed his hand.

“You don’t have to stop, that actually felt nice.” I said quietly. He put his hand back and continued what he was doing.

“So Allie, tell me about yourself.” Jordan said once the game went to a commercial.

I sat up further and tucked my feet under my body and turned a little so I was facing Jordan. “What do you want to know?” I asked

“Your family, you friends, hobbies, anything. I want to get to know you. Especially since we will be sharing a place to live and everything.”

“Okay.” I muted the TV so it wasn’t so loud in the room. “Well Alaina is my best friend, I have some other friends but we aren’t as close as Alaina and I are. I like to play softball and ride horses. I’m from California.” I smiled. “Is there anything else you want to know?” I asked, hoping he wouldn’t ask about my family. I knew he wanted to know, but I didn’t want to tell him how dysfunctional we were.

“Tell me about your family.” Those were the words that I didn’t want to hear.

I took a deep breath and ran my hand through my hair. “Well my parents are actually going through a nasty divorce right now.” I sighed. “My mom is dating a total douche bag and my dad is dating someone who could be my older sister. I’m an only child…that I know of. Who knows, my dad could have a child somewhere out there.”

“That sucks I’m so sorry. Is that why you came out to Pittsburgh?” Jordan asked quietly

“Yeah.”

“So is your dad the reason for the divorce?”

“Mostly yeah, mom caught him cheating on her with his now girlfriend.” I chuckled at the memory of mom finding them. She had gone to his office to take him some lunch and there they were, having sex on his desk. Cliché I know.

“Mom actually thought it was Alaina my dad was cheating on her with, because his girlfriend is so young.” I chuckled lightly.

Jordan put his hand on my thigh, not in a flirty way, but in a comforting way. “I’m sorry. We won’t talk about them anymore if you don’t want to.” He said

“No, I don’t mind talking about them. They are still my parents; they just are having some issues. I moved away so I won’t get involved with them.”

“Okay, before you moved out here. Did you go to school or did you have a job?”

“I had a secretary position at one of the biggest insurance companies in California.” I smiled. “I was taking some community college courses but not many.”

“That sounds so cool. It sucks that you had to leave, but if you were qualified enough to have that position then you could probably get a job anywhere.”

“Thanks, that’s what I’m hoping for.”

Jordan and I continued our conversation, the game forgotten. This time though we switched the topic to Jordan and his family. He told me all about growing up on his father’s sod farm in Thunder Bay, he told me about how much fun it is playing against his brothers.

“Do you and your brothers, when you play each other, get into any stupid little fights on the ice? Because I’m not going to lie, some of the fights that I see that involve any of the Staal brothers I think look like fights you’d get in at home over stupid stuff like the remote.”

Jordan threw his head back and laughed. “I don’t think I have ever been asked that before. I’ve been asked about playing against Eric and Marc, but never about the way we fight. We don’t really get into stupid fights on the ice, sometimes we do.” He looked at me with a smile. “Do some of our fights really look like we should be fighting over the remote?”

“Yes. Like the one game against the Hurricanes you and Eric were going at it and I couldn’t help but laugh. If you were stupid and didn’t know that you two were brothers, you could diffidently tell you were by the fight.” I laughed.

“Wow, I’ll have to tell them that next time I talk to them.” He chuckled.

Finally Kris and Alaina got home with the groceries. Jordan and I hopped up to help them. Alaina grabbed my arm and pulled me down the hallway to her room.

“What’s up Alaina?” I asked

“You were so flirting weren’t you?” She asked, smiling

“Um, yeah we were, I think. We were just getting to know each other a bit more.”

“Well you have that flirty look on your face. I don’t think anyone else will notice, but since we are practically sisters I know your looks.” She laughed.

“Come on let’s go make dinner for the boys.” I said walking away.

Alaina and I made lemon garlic chicken, white rice, and green beans for dinner. The entire time we were cooking both Jordan and Kris kept sneaking into the kitchen to steal pieces of cooked chicken. Alaina and I couldn’t help but laugh, they were acting like they’ve never eaten before.

“Alaina and Allie, you two are the best cooks in the world.” Kris said with his mouth full.

We both laughed. “Thank you. It’s my mom’s recipe.” I smiled

“Well your mom has an amazing recipe.” Jordan said.

“Thanks, I’ll be sure to tell her when I talk to her.”

“So,” Kris said after a few minutes of comfortable silence. “We have a game tomorrow, do you two want to come?”

Alaina and I looked at each other and shrugged. “Sure,” She said. “That sounds cool.”

“Sweet.” Jordan said

After dinner Kris and Jordan insisted on doing the dishes, since we cooked dinner and Alaina and I weren't going to turn down the chance to rest.

“Look out below!” Jordan yelled five minutes later, right before clearing the top of the couch. Alaina and I had no time to react so he ended up landing on top of us.

“Ow, Jordan.” Alaina exclaimed. I on the other hand was laughing so hard that I couldn’t tell him to get off. Kris chuckled as he as down in the chair, taking a sip of his beer.

“Jordan, get off.” I finally managed to say. Jordan pouted and squeezed himself between Alaina and I.

We all agreed to watch the Hurricanes game. I couldn’t help but laugh at the memory of the fight between Jordan and Eric.

“Stop laughing.” Jordan whispered in my ear, causing me to jump

I shook my head. “You can’t make me.” I smiled. I was a bit surprised with myself because I don’t think of myself as a flirty person, but here I was flirting with a guy that I’ve only known for two days. And he wasn’t just any guy, he was Jordan Staal.

Jordan smiled an evil smiled at me. “Is that a challenge?”

“Nope.”

I turned my attention back to the game and tried my hardest to ignore the looks Jordan was sending my way, but it was impossible. His blue eyes just drew me in, they were so hypnotizing.

“Would you please stop staring at me?” I exclaimed. Kris and Alaina snickered at our behaviors, but didn’t say anything. I think they were hoping that the two of us would hook up. Was I hoping that too? I have no idea.

“Nope.”

Our little game of me laughing and Jordan threatening me and then staring at me lasted all night long. Finally I decided it was time for bed. If I would have stayed out there and continued to flirt with him, I wasn’t sure if I would have been able to resist kissing him. Lying in bed I thought about those blue eyes and blond hair, drifting off to sleep with a little smile on my face. Moving to Pittsburgh was looking to be a good idea.
