Prisoners in Lust
Your Still The One
You're still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You're still the one I want for life
(You're still the one)
You're still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss good night
Ain't nothin' better
We beat the odds together
I'm glad we didn't listen
Look at what we would be missin'
They said, "I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holding on
We're still together still going strong
A few weeks later…
“Uh! I hate physics!” I said throwing my books on my desk.
“Well hello to you too.” Zach said laughing getting up from my bed.
“Hi.” I calmed down as he kissed me lightly.
“Now what’s wrong?” Zach asked. He just got in this morning while I was at school. And I was stoked to come home and see him. But life doesn’t like me very much and never wants me to be happy for long. So it made my Physic’s class difficult today. I want to go back to being in Chemistry! It was so much easier. Funny thing in math is my strongest subject and that’s pretty much all Physic’s was.
“I don’t understand anything that my teacher taught us today!”
“Well let’s look at it and I’ll help you.” He grabbed my hand and led me back towards my desk. He sat in the chair and pulled me onto his lap. I opened my binder and took out my homework.
“It makes no sense to me.” I said as Zach looked at it.
“It’s easy.” He looked back up at me.
“Oh really smart guy?”
“Yeah, here this is what you have to do.” He started to explain it to me. I was starting to understand it but was still shaky on it.
“Thank you.” I put away my homework and turned around to face Zach.
“You’re welcome.” He smiled. I gave him a quick passionate kiss.
“What would I do without you?”
“Fail physic’s.” I glared at him for that one. I’m usually pretty good in Science but this year Physic’s is getting to me. I have no clue what’s going on at all! I honestly think it’s the teacher.
“Shut up!” he laughed and tightened his grip on my waist. He looked down at my hand that was resting on his chest.
“Where’s your ring?”
“Oh Shit! I forgot to put it on today for school!” I jumped up from his lap and ran over to my nightstand that my make-up was all over and put it back on. “Sorry. I was in a rush this morning and forgot.”
“It’s okay. I’m not going to get mad if you aren’t wearing it. I mean we didn’t tell anyone besides the band and Kate. But tonight we are telling your parents.”
“I’m terrified.”
“Everything is going to be fine.”
“You always say that but you really don’t know that it is.”
“They are your parents. They’re going to be happy for you. Sure they might be pissed at first but it will pass. I promise!”
“Are we telling your parents tonight too?”
“Yeah I was going to video chat them and tell them after we told your parents.”
“Well tonight should be fun!” I joked. I knew that my parents were going to be pissed as anything at me. Zach’s parents on the other hand I wasn’t really worried about. They honestly trust Zach a thousand percent in his choices that he makes.
“Stop psyching yourself out.”
“Sorry.” I was looking down at the floor. Zach always wanted to pretend like everything was going to be perfect and I always told myself that nothing was ever going to go right and something bad was going to happen.
Later that night after dinner Zach and I sat down with my parents. They knew something was up right away. I wasn’t wearing my ring on the right finger because we didn’t want to give it away. My heart was racing so fast and I was squeezing Zach’s hand as hard as possible. How do you tell your parents that their youngest child is getting engaged to a rock star? Zach was going to be doing all the talking.
“So we have news for you guys.” Zach said breaking the awkward silence.
“What is it?” my mom casually said.
“We’re engaged.” I bit my lip as Zach spoke these words.
“Engaged?” my dad repeated.
“Yes. I had asked Brey the day she left to come back home but we wanted to wait and tell you together in person.”
“And what are your plans about this exactly?” my mom asked.
“We aren’t going to even think about the weeding till Brey graduates. I want her to think of only school work and pass all her classes.”
“Is this why you want to go to college in California?” my dad looked at me. I was scared to speak.
“I’ve always wanted to move to Cali and now that I had a boyfriend who lives out there I thought why not go to college there. I’ve had that planned out before Zach proposed to me. It was a shock to me that he did. But I love him with all my heart and said yes.” I looked at Zach whose checks were turning red. I smiled.
“Well if that’s what you chose to do then it’s fine with us.” My mom sighed.
“Really? You’re okay with this?” I said shocked.
“At least you have your life on track unlike your brother. I’m proud of you for everything that you’ve done since you started dating Zach. He’s put you in a good place.” I rested my head on his shoulder.
“Thank you.” I barely got the words out.
“Well I guess we can say congratulations and welcome to the family Zach.” My dad laughed.
Oh boy was my family crazy. Georgia, my 4 year old cousin, said asshole the other day when she was talking to my aunt about trucks. Trevor’s first word was Junk. Don’t even get me started on how stupid Steven, Alec, Sammy, and Eva are. Then you have my brother and sister and my oldest cousin who is 28. He isn’t my uncle’s son either and he’s gay. My aunt had him with some other guy at a young age and then married my uncle and his real father isn’t in his life and never was. But he and his boyfriend are SO cute together. My family is a little nut’s.
“Thanks.” Zach laughed back. Then my parents got up from the kitchen table and went into the living room. Zach and I walked into my room.
“I can’t believe that they are okay with this?” I was still shocked.
“I told you everything was going to be fine.” His kissed the top of my head.
“Now I can wear my ring on the right finger and not have to worry about them seeing it.” I smiled looking down at my ring. Before I was able to do anything Zach took it off and slipped it onto my ring finger.
“I love you.” He kissed me as we both looked up at each other.
“I know. I know. I love you too.” I smiled. He just laughed and shook his head. “So you ready to call your parents now and tell them.”
“Yeah.” He took out his phone and called his house phone telling his parents to go on the computer. Then we went on my computer and sent a video chat request.
“Hi son.” Zach’s dad said as his face appeared on the computer.
“Hi Brey.” Zach’s mom said acknowledging that I was sitting on her son’s lap.
“Hi mom and dad.” Zach was smiling. “Where’s Vic?”
“In his room like always.” His mom laughed.
“Okay I’ll talk to him later then. Don’t tell him anything.”
“What are we not suppose to tell him?” his dad picked up and Zach’s slickness.
“Well, we wanted to tell you that we are engaged.” Again I bit my lip scared for their response. Although I was more at ease with his parents then I was with mine.
“Are you serious? When did that happen?” His mom’s face light up with happiness.
“Yes I am serious and the day she left tour to go home.”
“Nice timing right?” I laughed.
“Zach we are happy for the both of you. We’re happy to have you in the family now Brey.” Zach’s dad was smiling. The Porter’s always had loved me and made me feel like a part of their family. Now it was real.
“Thank you dad.” Zach’s smile was so big. We finally told our parents meaning it didn’t matter who knew and we didn’t have to keep it a secret. Everyone was okay with us getting married. It felt so unreal.
“So when is the wedding?” Zach’s mom joked a little.
“Not till Brey graduated. Education first.” Zach looked at me sternly. I just laughed.
“I only wish that you had that same motto a few years back.” Zach’s dad laughed.
“We had a deal. Plus if I stayed in college I wouldn’t be sitting her with Brey right now and I might have never met her. I would have never found the one person who fills my heart.” I hide my face in Zach’s shoulder.
“I know I raised you right.” His mom laughed. “Now let’s hope Vic turns out the same way as you did.”
“I don’t think you have to worry about Vic.”
“I hope not.” She smiled.
“Alright well I’m going to go video chat him now and tell him the news. I’ll talk to you guys tomorrow.”
“Alright honey. Love you.”
“I love you guys too. Bye.” Zach x-ed out of the chat and sent a request to his brother. While we were waiting for him to answer Zach had grabbed my face and was kissing me. Everything was perfect right now.
“Gross!” Vic’s voice broke the kiss. I laughed as Zach smiled. “You video chatted me so I could see you guys sucking face! I don’t really need to see that thank you.”
“I video chatted you because we have something to tell you.”
“If you tell me that I’m going to be an uncle I’m going to have to hurt you Zach.” Vic was dead serious. It made me laugh.
“Don’t laugh at him, he is not funny!” Zach poked my side and made me jump. Curse him for knowing my weaknesses. “You are not going to be an uncle yet so calm down.”
“Then what is this news that you have to tell me?”
“We’re getting married.” I was the one who finally said it. It felt good.
“Are you crazy? Do mom and dad know about this?”
“I just told them and right before I told them we told Brey’s parents.”
“When are you getting married?”
“We do not know the date yet but it’s not going to be anytime soon. Brey is going to graduate first then we’ll talk about the wedding.”
“Good. She’s too young to be getting married.”
“That sounds weird coming from you.”
“Zach she’s my age!”
“I know but still. Its sounds weird.”
“Well it’s true! You can like go to jail for dating a minor.”
“I’m not going to jail.”
“Okay! You two need to stop before I shut this computer off!” I was trying not to laugh but I really couldn’t help it.
“Fine.” The both said in unison.
“You two are both dorks!” I looked at Zach then back at the screen.
“Hey! I am not a dork!” Vic got offended. I always call him a dork though.
“But I’m your dork.” Zach whispered into my ear. I giggled. Vic thought that I was laughing at him because he didn’t know what Zach had said.
“I’m going to fly out there and beat you up Brey.” He joked.
“Lay a hand on my girl and I will kick your ass!” Zach joked back. What am I getting into?
“I’m leaving right now! And Vic I would like to see you try!” I got off of Zach’s lap and started to walk away. But he pulled me back for a quick kiss. Vic made a gagging noise. Then I just walked out of my room and stood outside on the porch and called Kate. I wanted her and Cam to come hang out with us for a little. I felt the need to celebrate with them.
