Chapter Twenty-Seven
November 15th, 2010
Monday
Milan’s Apartment, Boston, MA
7:00 P.M.
Milan sat on his couch patiently waiting. He’d gotten home about two hours ago. He’d dropped Raina off at her house and gone straight home. Brittany was going to be home any minute now. When the door opened in the other room Milan heard Brittany say
“Milan I’m home,”
“I’m in here,” said Milan. She walked into the doorway wheeling her suitcase behind her.
“What are you doing?” she said. He turned to her and said
“I know you lied to me about Raina.”
“What?” she said coldly.
“I put Raina in the hospital because of your lie, you brainwashed me into exploding on her. I split her head open when I pushed her.”
“What are you talking about?”
“You told me you tried to be friendly with Raina and she was the one who attacked you. That was a lie; you were the one to instigate that fight! At practice I lost control of my anger and pushed Raina down onto the ice and split her head open!” Milan could see Brittany trying to find an excuse to tell him, another lie. “Don’t try and tell me another lie, I can’t trust anything you tell me.” All Brittany could see was
“This is bullshit!”
“So this week I went over to Raina’s to apologize and we ended up sleeping together, it was then I realized how much I loved her and I was lying to myself about loving you. So we took a vacation together to the Bahamas, alone, not with my parents, that was a lie. If you can lie to me I’m gonna lie back to you.” She looked at him speechless. “And now I’m going to break up with you and kick you out of my house because tomorrow night, at the game, I’m going to ask Raina to marry me. I realized she’s the one I want to spend the rest of my life with, and I’m confident she feels the same way about me.” Brittany still had her mouth hanging open in shock. Suddenly her face unfroze and she it turned red with rage. She screamed and then said
“NO YOU CAN’T BREAK UP WITH ME, YOU CAN’T KICK ME OUT!”
“Yes I can, this is my apartment, I want you out.”
“WE BELONG TOGETHER MILAN LUCIC!! YOU CAN’T LEAVE ME FOR THAT STUPID WHORE!” Milan calmly stood up and said
“You have until 11:00 tonight to leave, I’m gonna go out with Tuukka until then so you can get all your stuff out,” and then he brushed past her and went to leave. But Brittany blocked his way.
“YOU’RE NOT LEAVING ME!!” And then she slapped him across the face. His cheek stung but he resisted retaliation and said
“Maybe if you weren’t such a lying bitch we wouldn’t be in this situation.”
“I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING; IT WAS HER WHO TOOK YOU AWAY FROM ME!! THIS IS HER FAULT DON’T BLAME ME!” Sick of what he was hearing without effort, Milan moved Brittany out of the doorway by picking her up and setting her down on the other side of him. He walked down the hallway towards the elevator listening to her kicking and screaming back in the apartment.
