Forgive Me

Chapter Ten

I stared at the screen, mouth agape. I couldn’t get my mouth to move, or my vocal cords to emit sounds. I opened my mouth, choking on my own words, “A-Alex.”

“Aw, she’s nervous,” Jack spoke into his microphone, looking at the crowd, “Just say ‘yes’, Hailee!”

I shook my head, though they couldn’t see it. I didn’t want to openly embarrass him, but I wasn’t ready for it. If I did say yes, then everything would need to change, “Y-yes.”

The crowd shouted louder than before, but what was being yelled was inaudible. Alec got to his feet, blowing a kiss to the camera. I shut the television off, shaking my head.

“Congrats,” Evan said with a hint of a grin in his voice, before he ended the call.

I shut my phone, setting it down on the table in front of me. I shook my head, chuckling lightly. I just could not get over the fact that Alex had proposed to me at one of his shows.

I rocked Aiden lightly, cooing to him as he gurgled, looking up at me. I looked over at Adeline, chuckling as she looked up at me with the most confused look ever laced on her face, “You guys are so cute.”

It had been a week since Alex proposed to me, and everything still felt the same. Adam was helping with the babies more, since he was starting his summer vacation. I had taken time off of work, along with “forgetting” to sign up for my next semester classes.

I looked up, setting Aiden in his high chair as rapping on the door started. I opened the door, crossing my arms over my chest, as Mandy looked over me, “Hi.”

“Hey,” she looked down, holding her wrist, “I know we’re not really on talking grounds, but I read online that Alex proposed. I just wanted to congratulate you with that and the babies.”

I smiled a little, nodding, “Thank you. I’m sorry I cut you off, but you understood why, right?”

Mandy nodded, “Hailee, you’re like an awesome friend. I’m sorry I brought all my guy drama and that I got pissed.”

I nodded, looking back into the apartment, “Do you want to see them?”

Mandy looked up at me, smiling widely and nodded. She followed behind me into the kitchen, awing at the twins. She picked Adeline up, holding her and cooed to her. Honestly, she looked like she would be a good mom, if only she could find the right guy.

The day sort of dragged on as we talked about nothing. She kept apologizing, telling me that she never meant to let everything get to her head.

“Yeah,” I sighed, shaking my head, “you’ll find someone.”

She nodded, “God, your kids are so beautiful.”

I chuckled lightly, “Thanks,” I smiled at Aiden, as the front door opened and closed.

“Hails, we’re ba—” Alex walked into the kitchen, his eyes narrowing upon Mandy, “What the hell is she doing here?”

“Alex, she came over to apologize.”

“I don’t care, I want her out,” he rolled his eyes; “She’s the reason we almost fell out.”

I sighed, giving Mandy a sympathetic look as she left. I met Alex’s eyes, as he bent over to pick Adeline up, “I’m sorry she was over here.”

“It’s fine,” he sighed, kissing Adeline’s cheek. Alex set her back in the high chair, getting down on one knee and held out the ring, “Will you say yes again?”

I laughed lightly, “Yes,” allowing him to slip it onto my finger. I bent over, pressing my lips against him.

“I love you, Hails,” he smiled, kissing back, “and you, Adeline and you, Aiden.”
