Falling for Someone Unexpected

Falling For Who? Chapter 15

I did my homework at the kitchen table.
I played with my pencil, nervously, as I waited for Zane to return.
He told me he was safe.
He told me they didn’t know where he was.
He lied to me.
I looked down at my math homework and tried to focus on that.
The front door opened as I finished and my head popped up.
“Hello?”
“Hey kiddo,” my dad said walking into the kitchen. He smiled at me as he walked over to kiss my cheek. “Where’s Zane?”
“Out with friends,” I said trying not to look disappointed.
“You didn’t go?”
“Big test tomorrow,” I said.
“Okay, that’s my girl. I really appreciate you and Zane getting along like this,”
I smiled. “Yea, he’s pretty cool”.
My dad laughed. “I’ll be in the study,” he said walking away.
I nodded my head and took out my English homework.
I stared at the door and played with my fingers.
Where are you, Zane? I thought.
I opened the notebook and began to write a chapter summary on the book we’re reading.
Half way through the door opened the Zane walked in, limping.
“Oh my gosh!” I said running over to him.
He looked pretty banged up. Just like he did when he was attacked by that huge ‘dog’ maybe even worse.
I slowly laid him down on the sofa.
“You should have seen the other guy,” he joked.
“I’m guessing he was the same ‘dog’ that attacked you?”
“You still remember that?” he asked wincing as I brushed his hair out of his eyes.
“Yes! Zane, don’t lie to me. Are you in danger?”
“Blake,”
“Answer me,” I said looking in dead in the eye.
“One or two of the clan found me, but I’m alright as long as I’m with humans. I couldn’t risk him knowing where I live,”
“How did you survive?” I asked.
“I’m immortal; I’m just in a little pain. Cold water should do the trick,”
“I’ll get the bath ready for you,”
“Help me up?” he asked.
I slowly helped Zane up and walked him to the bathroom.
I locked the door and turned on the cold water.
“Can you help me out of these clothes?”
“Sure,” I said walking over to him.
I slowly took off his shirt and placed it on the floor. Then I sat him down so I could take off his shoes and socks. I undid his belt and jeans and he kicked them off. I slowly began to pull down his boxers while trying to look at his face. Once they were down Zane did the rest.
I faced the other way as he climbed into the water.
I turned around and looked at him. “How are you feeling?”
“Better,” he said closing his eyes.
“How did you get away?” I asked sitting on the toilet seat cover.
“My master wants me alive and Riley is easy to out wit, sometimes. He’s a really good fighter,”
“You’ve fought him before?”
“He’s my tracker. He’s the guy that get’s to stalk me and bring me to my master,”
“You could have told me this. Zane, you’re not safe. Being here, with me, isn’t safe for you. Your tracker knows were you are,”
“I’ll be fine,”
“You have to leave,” I said firmly.
“Blake, I’ll miss you too much. I have strong feelings for you. I’ve lost a love once; I’m not doing it again,”
I stared at him. “But what will happen if you’re taken away from me?”
“I’ll find away back to you,” he said so sure I almost believed him.
“What if your Master kills you?”
“He won’t,”
“You don’t know that, Zane. This whole vampire thing is blood in blood out,”
“Don’t worry about me and no, becoming a vampire won’t protect me,”
“I didn’t mention it,”
“Your wheels are turning,”
I stood up and walked over to the tub. “I just care about you too much,”
“I know,” Zane said putting his cold hand to my face.
I smiled at him and bent over to kiss him. “Please, keep safe,”
“I’ve been doing a good job up to this point,”
“How are you feeling?”
Zane sat up and smiled. “I look pretty good no?”
“You always do,”
He smiled and kissed me. “I’ll be fine,”
“I know,” I lied.
Zane dried off and we did our homework together until dinner.
Afterward we just lied in bed together.
I cuddled next to him and slowly fell asleep listening to his heartbeat.
