Have Faith In Me

You’re my best friend, and I love you.

Grace was hanging around the house with Gavin and Carter while her dad and Eddie were at work. Even though they would have conversations with her she couldn’t help but think they were up to something.

“You guys are freaking me out.” Grace said looking at her brothers

“What do you mean?” Gavin said with a blank face.

‘You just…I don’t know you’re acting like you have a secret.” Grace said standing up

“I think you’re just being paranoid.” Carter said looking at the television.

Grace shook her head before walking into the kitchen. While grabbing a soda out of the fridge her cell phone rung.

“Hello.” Grace said opening the pantry.

”Way to call your best friend bitch.

“Brooke you know I love you.” Grace said smiling

“I love you too. But you still don’t call me enough.” Brooke said chuckling

“I’m sorry kid. I’ve just been….” Grace said trailing off

“Spending all your time with your new boyfriend. I get it.”

“Oh shut up. How are you?” Grace asked sitting on stool and opening a bag of chips.

“I’m good. Out and about right now. You know me. What about you? How is the family?” Brooke asked

“We’re good. Gavin, Carter and I are just hanging out at home right now. My dad is at work.”

”Aw I miss you guys, especially Gavin. I haven’t seen him in a while.” Brooke said as Grace heard something that sounded like a man talking in the background.

“Who are you with?” she asked

“Um, no one. It’s just some guy behind me.” Grace nodded even though she knew her friend couldn’t see her.

“Oh ok.”

Suddenly Grace heard the doorbell ring. She looked to see if one of her brothers would get it because they were closer but she saw no movement.

“Fine. I guess I’ll get the door.” She said out loud.

Grace opened the door and her jaw dropped. In front of her was her best friend of sixteen years, Brooke Nicole Roberts. Grace squealed before throwing her arms around her.

“I missed you too.” Brooke said laughing.

Grace and Brooke meet at age four in a ballet class and have been inseparable ever since. Their parents became best friends and the two girls grew up together. They were like yin and yang. Grace was the olive skinned, exotic looking girl with black curly hair and green eyes, who was nice and friendly to everyone and was always smiling and happy. Brooke was the fiery red head with blue eyes and porcelain skin. She was loud and blunt. She was crazy and loved to party. She wouldn’t hesitate to put you in your place if you pissed her off. They were so different personality wise but that’s why they were best friends. They completed each other.

“Oh my god. How did you get here?” Grace said grabbing her friends bag and pulling her inside the house.

“Well I was talking to Gavin and he was telling me how much you could use me out here with you so I took off a week from work to come hang in Cali with my best friend.” Brooke said with a smile

“So that’s why they were acting so weird.” Grace said to herself.

“I couldn’t talk to you Gracie. I thought I would let it slip.” Carter said walking over to Brooke and hugging her. The boys said their hellos to Brooke before Grace pulled her up the stairs and into her bedroom.

“I can’t believe you’re here.” Grace said with a big smile.

“Well believe it because I am, for a week. You better take me to that mall you were telling me about.” Brooke said sitting her bag next to Grace’s dresser.

“I will. I’m going to take you to a lot of places.” Grace said as Brooke took a seat next to her on the bed.

“The first thing I want to do is meet this boyfriend you’ve been telling me so much about.” Brooke said

“Are you serious?” Grace said laughing

“Dead serious. Call him now and see what he’s doing.” Brooke said handing Grace her phone.

Grace just shook her head and dialed Mike’s number.

”Hey baby.

“Hey.” Grace said smiling, “What are you doing?”

”I’m just hanging out at home with Vic and Jaime. We’re not doing much. What about you? Mike asked

“Well my best friend Brooke just flew out here to spend a week with me and the first thing on her to-do list was meet you.” Grace explained as she heard Mike chuckle, “You up for it?”

“Absolutely. Bring her over. I can use this as a chance to see you.”

“Ok well we’re on our way then.” Grace said

“See you soon baby.” Mike said before Grace hung up.

“Alright, let’s go.”

~~~~~
About thirty minutes later Grace and Brooke arrived at Mike’s house. Grace would never admit it but she was kind of nervous about her best friend meeting Mike. She didn’t know what she would do if Brooke told her she hated Mike.
“Why are you nervous?” Brooke said as they got out of the car.
“I’m not nervous.” Grace said
“You are biting your lip. You’re nervous.” Brooke said walking over to her friend and linking arms with her.
“I just…want you to like Mike.” Grace said
“Why wouldn’t I?”
“You know how you are Brooke. Don’t act.” Grace said laughing
“Ok I may be a little tough on guys but its only because I want to know that they won’t hurt you. That’s my job as your best friend. But hey you’ve said nothing but good things about this guy so I know I’m going to like him. Don’t worry.” Brooke said as they walked up the porch stairs.
Grace rung the doorbell as Brooke spoke again, “Doesn’t Mike have a brother?”
“Yeah.” Grace said looking at her friend confused
Grace looked forward when she heard the front door open. She saw Mike standing there in his usual tank, jeans and a beanie.
“Hey baby.” Mike said smiling as he opened the door wide enough for both girls to step inside.
“Hey. Mike this is my best friend Brooke, Brooke this is Mike.” Grace said introducing them.
Brooke shook Mike’s hand and smiled. “I’ve heard a lot about you. You are definitely Grace’s favorite boyfriend she’s ever had.”
“Brooke!” Grace said with wide eyes.
Mike just laughed and pulled Grace into his arms.
“That’s a good thing beautiful. I’m glad I know that now.” He said pecking Grace on the lips.
“It’s just going to go to your head.” Grace mumbled as Mike and Brooke laughed.
“Come on. You can meet my brother and friend.” Mike said grabbing Grace’s hand and leading both girls into his living room.
“Gracie!’ Jaime said loudly
“Jaime!” Grace mimicked
“Hey guys this is Grace’s best friend Brooke. Brooke that’s my friend Jaime and my brother Vic.”
“What’s up?” Brooke said confident as usual. Grace couldn’t help but chuckle at her friend.
“Oh we have a fiery red head on our hands. I can sense that you’re like a good bottle of hot sauce.” Jaime said making everyone laugh.
“I’ve never been compared to a bottle of hot sauce but I’ll take it I guess.” She said smiling
“So what do you do?” Mike asked
As Brooke began to speak Grace looked over at Vic to see him staring at Brooke with a smile on his face. Grace immediately turned to Mike and nudged him with her elbow. He looked down at his girlfriend and she nodded towards Vic. Mike looked over at his brother and when he saw his face her smiled and shook his head.
“I think my brother has a thing for your best friend.” Mike whispered into Grace’s ear.
Grace shook her head before whispering back to him.
“Vic cannot handle Brooke. I promise you that.”
“What are you two whispering about over there?” Brooke said with a smirk.
“Nothing. I’m thirsty.” Grace said standing up. “Anybody want anything?”
“I’ll take a water.” Brooke said.
Mike and Jaime shook their heads as Vic stood.
“I want something too.” Vic said walking past Grace towards the kitchen.
Grace followed him into the kitchen and walked to the fridge while Vic leaned against the counter.
“Why didn’t you tell me your best friend was that hot?” Vic said
“You didn’t ask.” Grace said pulling out a water and PowerAde.
“Did you know she was coming out here?”
“No she surprised me.” Grace said opening her drink.
“How long is she staying?” He asked walking over to her.
“A week. Why?”
“I’m going to ask her out. She’s single right?” Vic asked
“She is single but Vic she’s only going to be here for a week. There is no point.” Grace said looking at him.
“Yes there is. She’s hot. I’m asking her out.” Vic said grabbing a bottle of water and walking towards the entrance of the kitchen.
“Vic seriously. Don’t do it. Brooke is a lot to handle.”
“Geez Gracie. Have some faith in me. I can handle it.” He said before walking out of the kitchen.
Grace chuckled to herself before grabbing Brooke’s water.
“He has no idea what he’s getting himself into.”
