Have Faith In Me

Grace was sitting in bed that night on her laptop editing some photos she had taken at the beach. She couldn't believe she had met so many people her first day in California. She just knew that this summer would be a drag and the only people she would see is her brother and Aunt. But with Sophia and her friends and Alex she might have a good time. She just wanted to make sure she spent a lot of time outside of her father's house. Grace was listening to When It Rains by Paramore when her iPhone began to ring.

"Hello?" Grace said

"Hey baby." a female voice said

"Hey mama." Grace said with a smile "How are you?"

"I'm fine sweetie." Melina said "The real question is how are you? I talked to Gavin earlier."

"I'm ok I guess. I'm assuming he told you what happened?" Grace said falling back onto her bed.

"Yes he did. Baby I just want you to give your dad a chance." Melina said softly

"Mom-"

"Don't you mom me. I know this is hard for you but you've had to deal with worse. If Gavin can forgive him and Carter can forgive him. I know you can. He really wants to make it up to you. He wants you guys to have a relationship again. You don't have to protect me anymore love." Melina said "I have forgiven your father and we're ok. I'm happy with Eric so you don't have to fight for my honor anymore. Just spend time with your dad ok. He really loves you baby."

Grace remained silent as she thought about hat her mom just said. She knew she was right and she was going to try, for her mom. But it still wasn't going to be easy.

"Ok mom. I'll try my hardest ok." Grace said

"That's all I ask." Melina said

"Ok mom."
"Ok. How are you liking California so far?" her mother asked

"It's cool. The weather is really nice. I met some people today too." Grace explained

"Oh really? What are their names?"

"Well I might this kid named Alex at the airport. He helped me with my bags. He was really nice mom. Then I went to the beach and I met this girl Sophia and five of her friends." Grace said

"You were always the kind of girl who made friends fast. Did you get any of their phone numbers?" she asked

"Yeah I did. I'm going shopping with Sophia and Emmy tomorrow. It should be fun." Grace said

"Sounds like it. I hope you have a good time sweetie." Melina said

"Thanks mom." Grace said

"Well it is almost twelve here so I'm going to go." Her mother said

"Ok mom. I love you."

"I love you too baby. Call me tomorrow." Melina said

"I will." Grace said before hanging up.

Grace started to get ready for bed when someone knocked at her door.

"Come in."

Grace looked towards her door to see her dad peaking his head into her door.

"Hey." he said

"Hey." Grace said simply.

"You have fun at the beach?" he asked leaning against the door.

"Yeah, It was fun." she said

"Ok well Michelle, Tanner and Gabby are coming over for dinner tomorrow. I know they all want to see you. I just wanted to let you know. I don't know if you have any plans." he said

"I'll be here. I really want to see them." Grace said

She immediately noticed the sadness cloud his eyes at the excitement she felt to see her aunt and not him.

"Ok well i just wanted to tell you." He said as he began to close her door.

"Dad."

Matthew stopped and looked back at his daughter.

"Thanks for the room……and the car. I appreciate it." Grace said with a small smile.

"No problem." he said smiling. "I'll see you in the morning."

"Ok. Goodnight."

"Goodnight." he said before closing the door.

Grace turned off her light and fell back onto her bed.

"This might not be as hard as I thought."
