Take a Chance

Abigail looked away from him as the tears began to fall from her eyes

“I can’t tell you”

“Why not? I know Remus knows” He shot at her. Her eyes snapped back to his as she looked at him in disbelief. She yanked her hand from his grasp and backed away from him

“He knows because he was there. He didn’t have a choice.” She paused yet kept her eyes on his. She wasn’t going to back down nor was she about to tell him something that she didn’t even want Remus to know.

“Its not like I wanted him to find things out. And you have some nerve thinking that I’m just gunna tell you like you have some right to know.” She fumed. Sirius kept his eyes hard. He didn’t want to just let her walk away from him and hide things. Abigail moved to walk passed him but he once again grabbed her wrist and held it this time

“I want to know”

“Sucks for you then. Why don’t you get that I don’t want to tell you nor can I?”

“But why?”

“Again, there is no reason you should know, plus it won’t be pretty if they found out that I willingly told someone else”

“What do you mean ‘Someone else’? Who else knows?”

“That’s none of your business” She spat as she tried pulling free of him but his grip only tightened.

“I care about you”

“I don’t care!”

“And I know you care about me”

“No. I. Don’t!” She yelled pulling between each word. Sirius finally let her go causing her to tumble backwards and smash her head off the table. The room went silent after everything had fallen from the table, landing on Abigail.

Remus and Lilly ran down the stairs only to see a fuming Sirius and Abigail lying on the floor with her hand on the back of her head. Lilly ran over to her but she sat up and pushed her away

“Leave me alone!” she yelled causing her head to hurt more but she ignored the pain as she stood up swaying a bit. She focused her attention on Sirius who just looked at her shocked

“You’re just like him!!! You don’t care about anyone else’s needs only your own!!!!” She screamed at him. Remus and Lilly looked at Sirius

“What did you do?” Lilly asked as she tried to stable Abigail but once again she pushed her away

“I said leave me alone!” she growled. Lilly looked at her hurt

“Just let me help you”

“Why should I? You went back on your word and then lied to me!” she yelled as she stormed out of the common room. Remus glared at Sirius who looked at him clueless

“What did I do wrong?”

“Obviously you said something you shouldn’t have” Lilly told him with her hands on her hips. Sirius sighed as he looked at the door

“I just wanted to know what she was hiding from me that Remus knew”

“She didn’t tell you for a reason. I didn’t even want to find out but I had no choice in the matter”

“But you still know”

“Is that why she got hurt?”

“No, she was pulling away from me and I just let her go. I was just so frustrated with her that I didn’t even want to touch her”

“When she is ready to share the horror she’s hiding then she’ll tell you but until then don’t pressure her. You’ll just end up pushing her away from you” Remus tried to remain calm as he rushed after Abigail.

Sirius looked down at the floor and sighed rubbing the back of his neck. He couldn’t believe that he had fucked up already. He didn’t mean to hurt her but it just happened. He then turned his attention to Lilly

“What happened a few nights ago?” he asked. Lilly sighed and looked at him with worry

“What do you mean?”

“Why did she stay away from me, not even looking at me? Why she always had tears in her eyes.” He asked quietly. Lilly bit her lower lip

“You have to promise not to hurt him or hate him for it. He was only looking out for you”

“At this point Lil, I just don’t care. All I want to know is what happened” he sighed. Lilly took a deep breath and let it out

“Well after you passed out, James started yelling at Abby, telling her that the reason you got hurt was because of her. He blamed her for everything and then told her that you were better off before she came along. He was just trying to look out for you” She whispered the last part. Sirius nodded before walking up the stairs to the boys dormitories. Lilly heard the door close and sat on the couch remembering when Abigail had confided in her about what had happened to her and Remus.

~Third Year~
Lilly looked outside for Abigail but she was nowhere to be found. Come to think of it, she hadn’t seen Remus either. He was rarely with James and Sirius lately. Lilly had walked back inside towards the abandoned girl’s lavatory and heard crying. She rushed in and saw Abigail curled into a ball in the far corner with her brown hair falling around her small frame. Lilly ran over to her

“There you are! I’ve been looking for you everywhere! Why did your parents pull you and Remus out of class?” she asked. Abigail looked up at her with a tear stained face

“If I tell you, you have to swear on your life that you wont tell a soul”

“I swear. Now what happened?”

“Do you remember how my parents refuse to let me date?”

“Yeah?”

“Well, they thought I was dating Remus and trying to hide it from them. So they pulled both of us out of class and brought up back to my house. They had continuously asked why I was dating him and didn’t say anything. It was like they didn’t believe me or him. My father stepped forward and grabbed me by the hair…He called me a slut and told me he was going to show me what it was like to be with a man…” Abigail started. Tears began pouring out of her already red puffy eyes

“You don’t have to tell me”

“But I need to. He had his guards restrain Remus and made him watch as he…as he raped me” Abigail stopped breaking down once again. Lilly looked at her horrified as she pulled her best friend close to her. She wasn’t sure what to tell her. She couldn’t say it was going to be alright because she knew it would never be alright. No matter what.

~Present~

Lilly shuttered as she heard the story in her head. It had scared her and knew that ever since that day, Abigail’s father had continued to rape her out of sheer pleasure of torturing his daughter. Lilly just hoped that Sirius would eventually understand that Abigail couldn’t share that with him. They all knew that Abigail was in love with Sirius and she was only pushing him away to protect him.

Lilly had then decided to go to bed. She'd talk to Abigail in the morning before breakfast. She knew that Remus would get Abigail fixed up and calmed down enough for her to come back and go to bed. So she wasn't worried.
