T-Shirts and Short Shorts

chapter four

(Skyler’s P.O.V)

All anyone seemed to talk about at school today was how awesome Nick’s party is going to be and how the guys hoped they would be getting lucky. There was also word going around that Ashley had slept with Quinn. I know I should be upset when I heard about Ashley considering she’s been my girlfriend for the past 2 months, and instead I choose to get mad at Quinn since he’s on the football team and knows that you don’t mess around with another team mates girl. But the truth was I didn’t care all that much she was nothing more than just a girl to show off to the guys. For one she was the head cheerleader and I was the schools all star quarter back so it was only right and destined that was dated. I know the logical thing for me to do is to break off whatever it was we had, but she was hot and it would look bad if I were to just break it off, since I and everyone knew what she was like and that she couldn’t just stick with one guy. But It only got me wondering is this what is going on in her head to that instead of breaking it off and looking bad it would be ideal to just sleep around, but I don’t think she expected to be known as a slut. Not only do I have this to deal with but after school coach tells us that he’s calling for more practice which means we now practice Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sundays with morning and after school practice plus Sunday it’s practically all day. High school is difficult.

To get my mind off school and my so called girlfriend and friends I grabbed one of my dad’s beers out of the fridge and sat out on the deck. Normally I wouldn’t have just taken one of dad’s beers; he wouldn’t have allowed it and made me give up on football. But this weekend mom and dad have decided to take the family to visit my grandparents who live 3 hours away I on the other hand was not able to go since I have football. So they took Kayla, Steven, Kathleen, Kendra, and Kelsey. I don’t know what possessed my parents to have 6 kids and then have all the girls begin with K and the boys with S but I guess that their choice. I’m the oldest child so and sometimes it’s hard being that role model especially for Steven since I’m the only brother he has to set an example for him. While sitting on the deck I couldn’t help but just stare out at the water listening to the relaxing sound of the waves crashing into each other as they hit the shore, the sky darkening and the way the moon was reflected made it a picture perfect moment until I heard a girl scream “HELP! SOMEONE PLE” whoever it was they sounded terrified; I lived just down the road from Nick so it didn’t really surprise me all that much that there would be someone screaming down by the water, guys always insisted on bringing girls out for a drunken walk down by the water forgetting that the rocks got really slippery. I decided It would be best to go take a look just to make sure no one was hurt too badly since lots of people have hurt themselves near the rocks and it’s a place the sharks like to hang out this time of night since seals like to sit up there as well.

Inside I dug around the drawers in search of a flashlight. Once I found one I clicked it on and then off making sure it actually worked. Grabbed the empty bottle from the deck railing and started walking towards the rocks putting the empty bottle in one of the public recycling bins; this way my dad wouldn’t freak out about an empty bottle laying around the house. I checked by the rocks taking cautious steps myself so I wouldn’t be the one screaming for help or worse. I shone the light towards the bottom near the water, no one was there who ever it was they were already long gone I was probably right when I thought it was just some drunks showing off to the girls. On my way back towards the house I could very faintly hear the music coming from the party. As I looked towards the house I noticed there was a couple messing around in the sand; gross. I was about to keep walking when I caught a glimpse of who it was, it was Chris he wasn’t at the meeting after school today now may not be the best time to inform him on what is going on but at least it’s still a fair warning “Hey Chris!” I called out; He didn’t turn in my direction he probably didn’t hear so I started to make my way over to him. “Hey” I said this time closer. And this time he heard me “Get lost Skyler. Can’t you see I’m a little preoccupied at the moment?” he said looking back at the girl underneath him.

For the first time I looked down at the girl a little embarrassed as to what I might see. The girl was hot and looked very familiar. I had to take a second look before I recognized that it was Samantha from my English class. But what is she doing out here with Chris out of all people? Shouldn’t she be with Carter? After all she was his girl. Something didn’t seem right about this situation “Well I just came over to tell you what went on in the meeting after school.” I tried talking to him as I assessed the scene; He’s quite a ways from the house, in a secluded area only one thing could come out of this. I quickly flashed the light down on Sam “Hey Samantha” I said with a wave; there was no response from her. I seen from the corner of my eye I seen Chris shift his weight off of her, suddenly I felt angered. “What did you do to her?” I growled at him

“Chill man, I just slipped a little something, something in her drink. She’ll be fine in the morning” he stroked her cheek. This little action seemed to set off a bomb in me; I can’t believe this actually happened to Samantha out of all people; she doesn’t deserve to have anything like this happen to her. And that when my fist collided with his nose; A pain shot all the up my arm as my hand pulsed and Chris fell to the ground.

I sat down in the sand; what did I just do? I mean he had it coming for him, but did I have to be the one to do it? I looked beside me at the unconscious Chris; his face was swollen and covered in blood. That’s when I knew what I did wasn’t right but I believe that since this wasn’t his first time he’s done this to a girl, and this time he didn’t get away with a clean get away it was the right thing. When Chris wakes up I don’t want to be here, he’ll be super P!ssed and want to fight, but what do I do about Samantha? I can’t just leave her here God only knows what could happen and Nick’s house was way too far to carry her and then once there, there would be to many people asking questions about what happened and so forth, No one was at my house I wouldn’t have to answer questions that I didn’t have the answers to and my house is a lot closer. As I bent down to pick her up I noticed that her shirt was torn. I shrugged out of my school hoodie and put it on her; I couldn’t help but chuckle as she looked so tiny but it seemed to suit her more then what was left of the shirt she was wearing before. Chris started to stir so I picked up Samantha and the flashlight and headed back to the house looking back a couple times to make sure Chris hadn’t woke up and started to follow me.

It wasn’t until I got in the house and laid her down on my bed that I smelt the alcohol. How much did she drink? I never would have thought that she would be the party girl type but then again you never really know people if you don’t take the time to get to know them. I swept a piece of hair behind her ear, she was a really pretty girl; I noticed her around school and stuff and always thought she was pretty and would be a really nice girl. And looking at her tonight she didn’t need to dress up and put make-up on she was beautiful without it. I pulled the covers over her so she wouldn’t get cold during the night, I started to bend down “Pull it together, you’ve got a girlfriend” I told myself and forced myself to get up and leave the room.

From the linen closet I grabbed an extra pillow and blanket and headed to the family room. I made up the couch and locked up before grabbing the remote and lying down. Nothing was on so I settled for teletoon. While watching TV my mind started to wonder what do I tell her when she wakes up. And what’s going to happen in the morning?
