Seeing Double

Emotional Number

The rest of the day was spent at the Verdone house. Heaven and I flirted, sharing laughs along the way during the time. Everything was going smoothly until her mother and her brother, Andrew, returned home. We both knew that any plans that either of us had, we ruined.

After Heaven explained to her brother that we weren’t dating, he invited me to play Black Ops with him. Despite the hurt I felt when she denied me, I accepted the offer. It had been a while since I played Black Ops. There wasn’t much harm in it.

Before I knew it, I had been playing with Andrew for hours. I had been sucked into the game, competition getting the better of me. My mind had been temporarily erased of Heaven. I had no idea what she was doing or where she was. She hadn’t crossed my mind once since I had started playing. I may have been in love with her, but my mind was easily distracted from her.

I didn’t see her until I was time for me to go home. She managed to appear, eager to show me to the door. Her mother smiled at her reaction while her brother gagged in response.

“So did you have fun?” she questioned. I gave a simple nod of my head in response. I was at a loss for words. I didn’t know what to say to her at this point. I had, for the most part, ignored her while I was here. Was there a way to explain it to her without getting into trouble?

“I figured that much,” she muttered.

I took a deep breath as I put my hands in my pocket. I stopped as we reached the front door. I turned to face her, prepared for an apology. “Heaven, I’m really—”

“You know what,” she interrupted. She twirled a lock of her hair around her finger. She shifted her weight onto her left leg as she began to look around the room. “I don’t have your number,”

I furrowed my brows in confusion. “Huh?”

She giggled as she continued to twirl her hair. “Your number silly…like your phone number. I don’t have it,”

My mouth formed the shape of an “oh” as I stood there. I contemplated whether or not I should give her my number. This seemed like a no brainer, but I rarely gave out my number now a days. I didn’t give my number to fans for the very reason that they were fans. My fans were more overzealous than the average. Giving them my number would only make this worse.

She noticed my hesitation causing her face to fall. She stopped twirling her hair as she stared at me. The amount of disappoint on her face was too much to bear. My stomach churned from one glance.

“I understand,” she sighed. She started to twirl her hair once more. “Fans and all…I just thought…since we were friends…but its fine. These things happen when your friends with a famous heartthrob,” the guilt began to sit in with every word that she spoke.

“It’s fine though…I just thought that if I had your number that if anything like this happened again, then we could always make up for it later…but it’s fine though,” she looked up at me from under her long lashes. Her brown eyes seemed round and innocent, similar to a puppy.

I caved.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and handed it to her. She immediately smiled as she took my phone from me. Her face was void of the disappointment that was once there.

Heaven Pro #6: She was easily pleased

At that moment the front door opened. I stepped to the side to avoiding the door colliding with my body. None other than Neveah entered at that moment. Her hair was now in a side ponytail, showing that she had fixed it earlier. The basketball was under her right arm. She wasn’t showing any signs of sweating. She must have cooled off before she came back home.

She gently closed the door behind her, observing the scene playing out between me and her sister. Her eyes darted back and forth between us in confusion. A smile played against her lips, yet it didn’t reach her eyes as it usually did.

Heaven looked up from my phone, smiling at her sister. “Welcome back,” she spoke “Did you win?”

“Kicked his ass,” she plainly replied. Her eyes continued to dart back and forth between us.

“Did you ask him?”

“Yeah…I’ll tell you later. Is there something I should know?”

Heaven shook her head as she handed me my phone back. “Just giving Justin my number,”

Her eyes landed on her sister and this time they stayed. The smile on her face fell instantly. Her lips instead formed a straight line. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she stared at her sister. She uttered a word, one word, but the word had so much emotion behind it that it made me cringe.

“Why”
