Lucas Bates was promised to the son of his parents very important friends at moment of conception. Lucas, who is very gay and has been his whole life, was Michael's playmate in childhood, and was Lu's secret crush since middle school. Michael is as straight as they come and very homophobic. He thought of Lu as his little brother, as he was almost three years older, but when he found out Lu was gay he shunned him completely.
