Chapter Twenty-Eight

I sat there after I heard what Patrick said. I swung my legs back and forth and took a deep breath.
“Say something.” Patrick said.
“What would you like me to say, Patrick?” I asked him calmly.
“Tell me how you hate me. How you think I'm a terrible person.” He said.
“But I don't think that.” I said. It was the truth, I loved Patrick. I was going against my rule of leaving a man after being cheated on, but Patrick had a legitimate reason. And he broke up with me, to save me. He wasn't being selfish at all.
“How can you not think that? I promised you I would never cheat on you.” He said.
“You didn't really cheat on me.” I said. I looked over at Patrick who ran his hand over his face and looked down at the fire.
“I hate being proved wrong, and I think you know that. But, this is the one time I want you to prove me wrong, Patrick. Prove to me that, not every bad thing we all do, has to be judged. I know you care about me, Patrick.” I started saying when he interrupted.
“No, I love you.” He said looking at me.
