To Write Love on His Arms

I sang quietly my fingers trailing up and down Atticus' bare back. He sobbed, his fingers digging into my back as I rocked us back and forth. "Atticus, you're okay." I cooed pulling him closer to me. I bit my lip and kissed his head. "You're okay." I whispered to him, my voice cracking.

It pained me so much to see him like this. I hated seeing Atticus this way, hated the sound of his sobs and the expression on his face. He started hiccuping and gasping. "Atticus shh, I've got you okay. He's gone." I told him, caressing his cheek and making him look at me. "Come on Sunshine, calm down." I begged him, kissing his forehead and wiping away his tears.

"W-why a-a-are you crying?" He asked, hiccuping again. "Because it hurts me to see you like this." I explained tucking some hair behind his ear. Atticus just looked at me, his breathing going back to normal and his tears slowing down. His sobs were substituted with sniffles every phew seconds.

"You really care about me don't you?" He asked quietly, wiping his eyes. I just stared at him in disbelief. "Of course I do Atticus, I'm your boyfriend! And if I didn't care then I wouldn't be. Atticus, god I care about you so much... I...." Atticus looked up at me, his big brown eyes waiting for me to finish my sentence.

"Atticus I love you." I told him, pecking his lips and pulling him close to me as he wrapped his arms around me. "I... I.." I cut him off. "You don't have to say it back Atticus. You've been dealing with too much the last month and week so you don't have to. In fact I don't expect you to. Just say it when you're ready okay?" I told him, kissing his nose. Atticus nodded his head.

"June." He called. I hummed in response. "I thought he was going to hurt me." He whimpered, his fingers curling around the fabric of my shirt. I began to rock us again, running my fingers through his hair. "I'd never let him hurt you, Atticus."

Never.
