Something Vague.

“Fuck, back to square one!”

I looked down at the blank piece of paper, all the inspiration died once I closed my eyes to sleep. I guess I ran my creativity well dry. I looked over and saw Carly lying there reading a book, something she always did on her day off. Or what I know. I looked down at the blank piece of paper, a new chapter in this old fashion notebook.

“Fuck it.”

I closed the book pushing it to the side before pulling out of my phone. I scrolled down my numbers until I landed on one familiar one. I heard it ring two twice before her soft voice answers.

“Hello Carlton”, I said watching her sit up and look over in my direction.

“Well hello there John”, she said with a laugh looking over at me. “What’s up?”

“What are you doing?”

“I’m pretty sure you already know the answer to that”, she said with a laugh waving a book up in the air. “Did you want to come over and ravish me?”

I swallowed the lump in my throat looking over at her lying on her bed in rather short shorts. She just laughed in the phone making me mentally shoot myself.

“Kidding John”, she said making me smile. “So why aren’t you working on your award winning album and calling me?”

“I was over it”, I said with a shrug. “Besides I wanted to hang out with you.”

“You slacker.”

“I know, but what can you do?”

“Come over and we’ll have another adventure.”

“On my way Carlton.”

I watched her hang up the phone a big smile on her face and I was wearing the matching one. I stood up from where I was grabbing a jacket and sunglasses. I walked out in the living room seeing everyone all sprawled around, Pat sleeping in a small ball.

“Where are you going?”

I looked over at Garrett sitting there with his basic comic in lap, Max sitting right next to him with a curious look on his face.

“Gonna hang out with Carly.”

“And you haven’t scored yet?”

I just rolled my eyes at them before grabbing the house keys not knowing how long of an adventure this might be.

“I’m guessing that’s a no!”

“Shut up Moose.”

“Get it girl, get it!”

I just laughed walking out the door and across the lawn. She was already leaning up against her car a smile on her face. I couldn’t help but to look her up and down. Her cut off shorts and a Star Wars shirt making me smile. Her short blond hair down in her natural wave along with some matching ray bans.

“Ready?”

I just nodded my head getting in the passenger seat. She drove off singing along to Queen that was playing on her speaker. I loved when she sang it was always something different. I looked in the back seeing a guitar rested on her backseat. We got to our destination and I was confused as to why she brought me here.

“Wal-Mart?” I asked as we were greeted by the woman in the blue vest.

“Yes”, she said stopping and looking over at the woman. “Can I have two stickers?”

The lady gave her a weird look before handing her two of the smiley face stickers. Carly thanked her with a smile before placing the sticker on my chest and then doing the same on her. I watched her run down the aisles straight to the toys; I knew I was in for it. I jogged up to her trying to catch up but this one was fast.

“Carly?”

“Over here!”

I followed her voice seeing her looking at the Babies a smile on her face. I couldn’t help but to laugh at the ball she was holding and bouncing up and down. She threw the ball at me hitting me square in the face.

“Come on John, didn’t you play baseball in high school”, she said teasing me with a smile.

“Yeah, but I didn’t have some crazy girl throw a ball in my face.”

“Well now you do!”

She ran over to the basket of balls throwing each one at me faster and harder after every throw. Her laughter was louder than the smacks of the balls against my body. Then she grabbed one of the smaller balls and threw it straight at my family jewels.

“Oh shit”, she said with a laugh walking over to me.

“Cant”, I said taking a deep breath. “Breath.”

She just laughed harder, I couldn’t help but to glare at her as her laughter got louder. I looked around at the mess of balls all over the place.

“Do you want me to kiss it?” she asked with a smirk on her face.

“Please don’t give me a boner in the middle of the toy section at Wal-Mart. It’s enough that were gonna get kicked out but I don’t want to get kicked out for being some pedophile and become some red dot on the internet.”

She just laughed leaning in and giving me a kiss on the cheek, her laugh calming down a bit. She grabbed my hand and brought me to the electronic section of the store. I watched her go down the aisle of alarm clocks pushing buttons. I watched her curious as to what she was doing, but the devious smile was telling me it wasn’t something good. She ran over to me once she finished the last one.

“What did you do?”

“Just wait”, she said putting up her finger a smile on her face. “I do this every time I come into Wal-Mart.”

She looked over at the time before grabbing my hand and walking me out of the aisle into the next looking through the movies. Then she looked over at me with a smile before we heard the music of all the alarm clocks. I watched as everyone jumped up kind of scared, me included. We watched as the employee’s ran to that aisle, I looked over at Carly who had a satisfied smile.

“Come on”, she said looking at me with a smile before walking out of the store.

Once outside she looked over at me with a laugh, I couldn’t help but to laugh. This girl was too much to handle, too much for me but I loved it. She turned to me with her devious smile, my heart stopped for a second.

“Don’t tell me you want me to strip down.”

“In a different way”, she said with a smirk. “Stay!” she ordered like I was some kind of dog.

And of course I listened. I watched her run into the parking lot, looking as though she was skipping. I felt my phone vibrating; I pulled it out and saw Jared calling. Once again I ignored the call and the many texts from all the guys. Once I looked up I saw Carly walking over to me with a hat on her head and the guitar in her hand. Great, she’s going to make me sing. Once she got to me she saw the look of embarrassment and fear.

“What in god’s name are you going to make me do Carlton?”

She just laughed at the nickname I gave her before shaking her head and pulling my hand off to a small corner. She took a seat on the ground placing the hat in front of her. I looked down at her, hands in my pockets. I was starting to get the nerves in my stomach, feeling like I was 18 all over again.

“Sit down.”

I rolled my eyes before taking a seat next to her. She handed me the guitar, I just stared at it like it was some kind of drug. I took it from her placing it on my lap. She looked over at me with a smirk before standing up.

“Where are you going?”

She just ignored me before standing up and stretching her body. I watched her arms being raised over her head and I couldn’t help but to stare.

“Step right up, come and see the amazing JohnO!”

“What the fuck are you doing?!”

I looked over at the crowds of people staring at us, looking at us like we were some kind of crack heads.

“Hey honey”, she said bending down at some little girl staring at her with a smile. “John will make a song up for you. Go tell him your name”, she said with a smile.

I looked up at her parents that were grinning down at her, surprisingly. She walked over at me with a shy look on her face.

“My names Daisy”, she said making me laugh.

“Daisy, that’s a pretty name”, I said with a laugh before playing the familiar chords.

“I picked you up and lifted your wilted frame into the sun. I was taken back, yeah I was taken back, and by the time I caught my breath, you had blossomed into something that I did not expect”, I sang softly looking over at the little girls smiling down at me.

“And if it takes all night, I swear I’ll wait, for you, forever. Sunlight, sunshine, all for you my daisy. We’re getting this before you leave, all for you my daisy.”

A small crowd pilled around me as the parent clapped as I finished. The little girl grinning down at me with a big smile on her face, as she clapped excitedly. She grabbed me into a hug before walking to her parents. They threw a dollar in the hat and then walked away. Carly looked down at me confused, this was the first time she has ever heard me sing, and when I say sing I mean really sing.

“You cheater”, she said in a low whisper making me laugh.

I just shrugged before playing the rest of the song making her laugh. People walking over and dropping money in the hat making me laugh.

“Make up a song”, she said in my ear letting her lips press against my skin, causing Goosebumps to go up and down my body. “And I don’t know you’re band but I want to see you struggle”, she said with a laugh.

I just laughed before playing some chords that I wasn’t sure what it was, I just remember Jared playing the other day. She looked over at me as I messed up over the chords but it didn’t seem like the small crowd noticed or at least the people passing. I looked over at Carly a smile on my lips as she bopped her head along to the beat.

“Wake up its 5 a.m. You fell in love again something wrong with living life like this. At work can't help but stare long legs and her dark brown hair you give her a smile and that's about it”, I sang stutter over my words looking at the dark haired girl standing past me.

“The store at 6 p.m you see her face again you catch her eye you panic and walk towards her can't think of what to say no words come up today so you just smile and its goodbye. you say so what, I fell in love but it just won't work because”, I sang unsure of what exactly I was singing but my eyes were now glues on Carly standing there trying to see if I was making it up or if it was one of our songs.

I played the chords over and over again, fucking up a couple of times. I was stuck and unsure of what to say before I heard Carly sing along with me.

“I fell in love again don't know how it happened he slipped away again, the same as last weekend oh it's a routine thing just with some new feelings I always choke up when I get close to closin in.”

She gave me a smirk as I listened to her beautiful voice. I continued to play the guitar unsure of what I was going to say.

“And I'll make em mine the one I sing about all the time cause she's in my dreams but it's never as real as, as real as it seems and I'm gonna need a lot more than her and maybe you'll be my baby but maybe not because I’m all choked up.”

I played the last chord unsure of how to end it; she just stood there clapping her hands along with everyone else.

“Oh my god that’s JohnO!”

My head turned and saw a group of girls pointing over at me with excitement in their eyes. That look always met trouble. My heart started to beat scared of what was going to happen. I noticed the money pilling up in the hat as those girls neared in. They pushed their way to the front, their phones out texting god know who. I looked over at Carly who just grinned before bending down grabbing the money and my hand.

“Show’s over!”

“John!”

Those girls yelled my name and I had to talk to them, I always did. I turned around and spoke to them as they asked for the rest of the band. I posed for the pictures that were being taken, close to a half an hour I was finally released. I got in the car and saw Carly grinning over at me counting the money in the hat.

“How did we do?”

“Enough for you to take me to lunch”, she said with a laugh placing it back in the hate.

“Thank you for that.”

She looked over at me with a satisfied grin before driving off. I looked down at my phone ignoring another phone call and another text, just trying to keep all my attention on Carly.

“You’re crazy”, I said smiling over at her.

“But you love it.”

If only you knew how much.
